If this has already been thoroughly discussed please post the thread link, because I couldn't find it.
When is a second server going to open so we can have lowbies again. I havn't played for a long time and I thought about something. This server got off to a rocky start, but it's very solid now with the boats and everything.
Wouldn't it be great to play on this server from a solid start with the boats working and possibly mages not being overpowered?
I see the negative side to this being that it would make the current server population smaller and it would cost more in donations. But, we wouldn't have to see the same faces all the time, and I think a second server would provide a unique atmosphere in case you don't like the status quo of the people on the current one?
I know this isn't in the works and it would require annoying amounts of resources, but I think it is interesting to ponder :D

There are lowbies now. I don't know what you're talking about. Perhaps you're looking in the wrong spots? I quickly found out, you just have to be in the right zones. Grouping is done at low levels in Gfay, Crushbone, Befallen, Oasis/Unrest.
I don't see any need for a new server at all, everythign seems to be in balance, minus the inflation on some items.

Why are they so OP? What makes them OP I should say.

Maybe it's just me, but I've always had a problem with mage pets.
They seem to tank better than tanks (war/pally/sk) at lower levels until they can afford to buy equipment to get their AC up. Fire Pet AC still needs to be looked at.
And the DS? The highest level DS a druid can cast, 24, is about the equivalent of the level 20 fire pet.
A level 20 pet hits for about 23 damage max, I'd imagine that the damage it does just from attacks would be comparable to the damage from a ranger.
I used to remember pet heals drawing huge amounts of aggro, lots higher than normal heals would. Pet aggro is a little off I think.

Pets seem fine now except for the fire pet DS. I certainly don't remember them getting max-level DS at level 20. Other than that, mage pets were always really strong and they were always able to solo very efficiently with them. Seems like everything is in order except for the inexplicably powerful fire pet self-DS.
And there are plenty of low-levels. Plenty. Maybe not in Befallen and Kerra Isle, but the traditionally crowded zones are still crowded. I see no need whatsoever for a new server, and I doubt the administrators want the added expense and workload of running one anyway.

I don't think this is even something that will be considered int he slightest until we reach an excessive amount of time spent post-velious. When all that CAN be done has been done, and the server begins to dry up, then maybe something drastic like a wipe might be something to talk about. Right now though, it's just goofy...the Devs have put together a great community (and growing too!). No reason to split us up or wipe everyone out because of a few late-comers =P

I agree, a new server is a bad idea. It would polarize, only the 50's with raid gear would stay, and it would be 50's and their twinks.
I would like to have a mask of deception though.

Bleh. Whatever. The one that makes you a Dark Elf.
I just want to be a shaman and not 14 feet tall. I'd take a gnome mask.

Which is why a second "fresh start" server might not be the worst idea, altho we'd need more donations, more google clicks, more server hardware, more guides and volunteers... etc.. It's not as simple and summoning a pet. ;)

I think the current setup is actually a good reflection of classic. When EQ launched, it had some hype but MANY people didn't pick-up on the game until it had been out for a few months and many of those early-nerfed items (manastone, guise, etc) were already gone. For most the experience was hearing or seeing, but missing out. That's replicated quite well now for all those that showed up here late to the party. Keep it classic! =P

I guess it has balanced out, but it would be fun to start over at level 1 with boats instead of translocators and everything in balance; but of course this is classic.
I dunno what I was thinkin.
edit: it would also be funny if a character was deleted every time it got close to 50.

Would serve no purpose other than anger people who lose their pixels, or cause people to quit due to not wanting to grind over again. Minor benefits, huge negatives.

I only started a couple of weeks or so ago
I am almost level 20 now - started in Qeynos - Qhills was never empty, BB had some folks in it, now in FP area - Nro dervs etc - tons of people my level.
My time zone has like a 10-12 hour difference with US time zones, so I play offpeak..

You can't just start a new server so everyone can have Rubi and a Guise... If everyone had them it would take away from the coolness of the item. It sucks ass that I found the game too late to get any of the old-school items, but i just say be happy the server exists and is free. ...And apparently once velious is out they may consider a new server, so wait two years for it. :)

I would donate $200 to the server tomorrow for a Guise.
It's actually really frustrating for someone who played EQ since beta, but didn't discover this server till last week. I have done a google search for 'vanilla eq server' about twice a year I feel like since '04 and GoD ruined the game for good (that is after SoL ruined the game but PoP brought it back from the dead). Everytime I think about the fact I have no way to get a Guise, I want to throw my keyboard against a wall or just log out and get rdy for the new Star Wars, or Cataclysm or something. it really sucks to have no way to get something. There aren't many things in life you can't buy (even if it were to take me lots of work). I'd pull 3 all nighters tomorrow or throw $200 at server right now for the chance to get a Guise.
Arg. So frustrating...

Well, it's unfortunate for most that guises no longer drop, but that's just a small part of the server, so should still be thankful it's here.

I played 5 different mages on live since 1999 and I can tell you that the mage pets were just as powerful on live... In fact, I remember them being slightly more powerful in some cases, but not super noticable.
As far as aggro: In groups the reason why pets don't draw aggro is because sometimes during SoV mage pets were drawing crazy aggro. I would send in my pet at 85% hps in Velks and it would still draw aggro and die quickly. Verant's solution? They made mobs ignore pets if a PC was in melee range (enless mob was rooted). It is like that today on p99. I don't know if this something that has been looked at, or if it is just a really low priority. I'm guessing it is something that they don't really care about since pets arent usually tanks in group situations. It also helps at lower levels when you need to take some dmg for your pet when it is low.
Mage pets are powerful because it needs to be compared to necros. Necros have more CC ability (which isnt saying much since mages have zero CC enless you count earth pet root a CC) and later on don't even need a pet

The same could be said, if, like me, I discovered EQ itself after Guise stopped dropping. It's part of the game to progress and lose certain opportunities that were originally available, while other opportunities open up in the future. It would be silly to see every single player above 40 with a guise.

Everyone did, and it was silly. Same with manastone. Everyone had one whether their class needed it or not. I thought it was pretty dumb, but there were only about 200-300 of us. I was glad when they stoped dropping and we started having 500 and then 800 people and these items were rare like they should be. Having a grp full of dark elves with never ending mana pools wasn't really that much fun.

Yeah my brother played a mage on live and the fire pet was always nuts.
The damage shield always does damage equal to pet level, so at higher levels the D sheild gets insane.
They trade this for the lowest, HP and str of all the pets. However, the Dshield and the fire pet having the most powerful nuke more then makes up for this.

Id love a server split right before kunark, but only if the split was to a PvP based server.
Even If its not PvP I feel its going to have to be done. Max players for the server is right around 1k and I think we are going to go way beyound that in Kunark.
I'm still pretty new here. Lots of people like me. No need for a new server or a wipe.
