Hello Folks,
A few weeks ago I received an email about a progression server being added to EQLive. I immediately thought "Wow, I so wanna do that!", and immediately started researching and remembered Project 1999 from back in 2011 when I loaded it up for a brief weekend. Unfortunately some RL stuff came up and my experience was brief and forgotten about.
In flipping through the interwebs I stumbled across it again. The mention of "Velious Coming", was certainly enough in and of itself to rekindle my interest. The decision was easy. An Everquest progression server might be incredibly enjoyable, but I had to imagine it would have things like Dual Boxing (Which I feel is probably the single most instrumental thing to break the game), and other things which I don't feel fits in with my memory of the game.
I really only played and enjoyed Everquest up to Luclin when I felt like I was going through a change in my life, and with it Everquest was making a change too. The two did not suite each other, and I didn't really sync with the direction the game was heading. So we parted ways.
Project1999 as close as you could dream of has truly recaptured the game exactly as I envisioned it. Better actually. The community is so much better here than it was on Live even during this ERA of content for instance. At least in my personal experience.
At any rate I started playing Last Friday on the 3rd with my level 6 Shaman I guess I created back in 2011 (Shampaigne) and immediately all the love and passion for the game came back. Not just the nostalgia, but the companionship grouping over a long course of time with someone, the kindness of being passed down a couple pieces of banded and a wraithbone hammer by a complete stranger, and the reward of hearing that short, sweet, and loud DING signifying my growing strength.
I was hooked... again.
I had quite a bit of vacation time built up and I had been meaning to take a few days off work in the future anyway so I decided how fun might it be to take a few days off work, play as much as I physically can over the course of that time, and see how far I can get while streaming the whole thing.
So I did.
Over the last 9 days I've streamed every moment of my journey of re-experiencing Everquest. It has been an amazing ride, and I truly cannot think of one negative aspect of it.
I wanted to post this to say thank you to all folks who watched the stream, and cheered me on and supported this crazy ride. I'm not sure without streaming I would have been able to push so hard and so fast.
When it was all said and done, I ended the day and stream today with level 45 and change. I couldn't be more pleased. I completely smashed my expectations as I thought even a goal of hitting 40 seemed extremely unlikely.
I can't say I didn't have help because I did, though I can say not nearly as much I think some people believe.
Until level 39 I was wearing reinforced rhino gear from Kurns Tower if that is any example of the "No.. I assure you no one gave me tons of free shit" lol
I played Everquest the way it was meant to be played. Several Hours leveling intentionally on skeletons for bones. Selling those Bones for a couple pieces of missing banded, and spells. Selling Silks and Bones in EC until I could afford the next 3 levels of spells so that I wouldn't waste time back and forth to FoB since I preferred leveling in classic content such as Oasis, UGUK, MM, and the like.
After 8 levels of HHK (Newbies go there ASAP) of ear grinding with a group I was able to save up 1kpp.. ONE THOUSAND PLATINUM!! Enough to buy myself a Chokadai Prod, some Burnai Boots, x2 Rockin Platinum Fire Wedding Rings. A few hours of camping Ritualist and Mino Elder in LGUK yielded me a sexy Chrysoble Talisman, and Embroidered Black Shoulders, and man.. I was rocking.
Still... those God Damn... Rhino 2AC bracers, and 4C Helm...
At any rate my point is this. I had 2 viewers over the course of my stream offer me more platinum than I'll mention here with a pay me back caveat. I refused both, and here is why. The goal of this stream was to try to keep it AS classic as possible. I wanted to earn my own shit (within reason). That however is NOT to say I didn't accept a loaner shield by a friend who I grouped with who had an alt with one he wasn't using, or take a handme down chest piece, some splitpaw gloves, and a splitpaw ranged item. etc.
That IS Classic Everquest. Sometimes you meet a kind person who just wants to help you out, and it is AMAZING. In proper pay it forward turn I felt I should relinquish my hand me downs as well to which I have. Stream Viewers gave me a couple items in EC tunnel to sell to "help out" which I promptly passed down to guild mates or stream viewers just starting out. (I have not sold a single item in game yet) everything has been given away. Not to say I'm not trying to, (PLUG) anyone wanna buy my Embroidered Shoulders from LGUK 350p? Holla at ya boy, I got an extra :)
Anyway.
This has been incredible, and it also has been a tremendous amount of work, focus, and physical wear, but I loved every second of it.
I can't really explain what an amazing thing this server is. I can't possibly thank the staff who keep this place alive enough for all of what I can imagine is a tremendous amount of thankless work. You really have created something special here, and you should be enormously proud of what it has built.
My rampage is over, but my leveling continues. Shampaign will make it to 60 albeit a tad bit slower of a rate than this week :)
Thanks again to all the viewers and if anyone wants to check me out I will continue streaming of course.

Also please check out the other streamers of P1999. There are some really phenomenal folks trying to promote the game, and honestly it's just a lot of fun :).
I can honestly say I helped about 30+ folks get P1999 installed and setup over the week, a couple of which required me Team Viewer'ing into their PC to help them. Streamers keep on a streaming, keep promoting the server and help grow and sustain the community!
Cya'll in Norrath.
