Preface: I've been on these servers for years, and I've only ever had two player disagreements, and they're all insignificant, like the following =)
I'd never played red and thought if I were to give any of the endless recruit threads their proper shit, I'd have to know what I was talking about and play. I have a L56 paladin on blue, wife has a L55 druid and I geared us fairly well as one of the tunnel rats you may know and love (Elizabetha).
I've been leveling a druid on red. I had started my paladin there over a year ago, but red was a sewer at the time. I figure the druid just needs spell money to get going... I've been having fun off and on for a few weeks on that druid wearing the garbage I loot or quest (I have 1 player-bought item. Saved for a good 1hb: Smoldering Brand)
With the news of Velious coming, I logged on my blue main paladin. Hadn't blown the dust off in a couple of months. He was camped in one of my favorite zones at my favorite camp. Full pop in camp, and leading to the camp from all entrances.
I clear the camp and establish the timer for the name. One invisible SK ran up to the camp, but once he realized I was camping, he moved on. As I'm looting the dead, another invisible caster runs up and shadows me. I let him know I can see invisible. He asks me if I'm camping the camp (as we both sit near the name's spawn point).
He stops talking and I'm wondering if this is going to be a situation where the guy tries to burn down the target right in front of me.
He was just typing. A nice big ole paragraph about how he's level appropriate, fought his way back in here, had to gate out, fight back in and to lose the camp in "two minutes".
I finally get it.
If I had been on red, I'd have killed that whiny mother fucker. I could feel it! I wanted to pvp him right in the mouth! And I haven't even gotten into a scrap on red yet! But I get it now.
As it was I only called him on his whining and left the camp to the noisy: to be told that he wasn't whining, just telling me how it happened. I almost felt like I'd been an unreasonable dick when I remembered the needling about being "the right level". Bah! Wanted to PvP his face again! So many open, level-appropriate camps in there, but this is the only cash camp.
I get it.
Gonna go play that dr00d. Get my wife over to red for some lowbie goodness.
