I got all excited about this. Im one of those folks its more about the experience of the adventure, than the gloriousness of the finish line. Then just dumping into blue in the end just seems a let down to me. A recycling server presents a concept of continual restarting. seems like it would need some mechanism built into it to be a overwhelming success. For instance, server resets you should get to stay and be naked and keep your established character name. Sort of like the soul binder book. this book would prevent the character from going over to blue server. Some non classic features would be nice too, that involve characters starting over. things like max level resets to gain an AA point or somesuch. And in the end not transferring to blue, That mechanism to keep you on the recycle server, could give a bonus of some sort (extra stat points?) for not transferring over to blue when the server restarts. Being able to recycle and at the same time accrue somethings would be a sweet ever grinding server idea.
Just my 2 cp.

It's an interesting idea however I feel like this could be a real draw as it is suggested now. Meaning that folks could have a permanent server (ala blue/red) and then have a progression server to choose whether or not to move characters over before the wipe.
I feel like giving extra stat points or whatever could trivialize the starting of the progression server after the wipe because the folks that keep playing could possibly have stats that make everything exceedingly easy after a couple rotations of the server. However then again, that is a long period of time to be playing but I think we all know that there are some of the most committed EQ players here in this community.

The goal (as I understand it) of the recycle server, and really this whole project in general, is to let people play EverQuest as closely as possible to how it was back in 1999. For the recycle server to succeed at that goal, every single time it restarts it needs to be exactly like the live server was when it first started.
Since there were no extra stat points (or other special player privileges) when EQ first started there shouldn't be any such privileges when a recycle server restarts.

I think it would break the game to give people a small boost after each wipe.
I mean, can you imagine if someone that was playing for 6 years on the new server had a +5 to str?! Might as well just /q, cuz they will dominate everything and it will be unfair and no one would get any loot. They would be soloing dragons at like level 2.
GG not classic.

Obviously it wouldn't break anything, but that has nothing to do with it. It's not about whether stat bonuses are balanced or not, it's about whether they're classic or not. Look at the top of the page: what does it say? "Project 1999 Classic Everquest."
Rogean, Nilbog, and everyone else on staff have been very clear that their goal is to let people (re-)experience what Everquest was like in 1999, and the whole point of the the recycle server is to create a more authentically classic server than Blue. Adding non-classic features, no matter how "sweet" people might think they are, goes directly against the entire point of the recycled server and Project 1999.

Yea, that is what I was saying. GG not classic. +5 to str breaks the game.
You would see a gnome walking around and look at his equipment and be like "HOLD ON A SECOND! YOU SHOULD BE 5 OVERWEIGHT!!" ....but he is still running at normal speed?! You would know deep down something was wrong.
And that is when it would hit you..."this guy...this guy got one of those non classic boosts from killing his character 3 years ago!! HOLY SHIT!"
Suddenly, the tears would erupt from your eyes....and you would quietly sob "this...this isn't classic".

Do you walk in to McDonald's, demand pizza and tacos, then throw a fit when they refuse? No? Then why are you making such a fuss about this server's goal?
This is Project 1999, as in "Everquest, the way it was in 1999." It even says so right at the top of the page, just in case you forget. No amount of your theatrics is going to change that very basic fact.

Still not classic no matter how much you want it.

Is there a link to where Sirken talked about this on his stream?

You might want to re-read Ivory's post; despite his claims to the contrary this is very much not a case of "friendly fire".
I mean c'mon, you can't think that this is a serious argument:

I think that he was kidding, and you took it as him being serious. But maybe I'm wrong :) either way it's all good. Classic should stay Classic. The reset server is a great idea. As a player who's not doing 100hrs a week in game, I'd love the opportunity to go back through the progression, especially now that they figured it all out and would roll each patch and xpac much more smoothly.
