Found this on another forum, an exchange with an eq2 dev responding to a player about the gameplay. Very short, but it's ...odd... how the dev does not seem to understand what he/she just admitted about their own game.

Relevant because, what a sad franchise. Really, I hope people are documenting all this.
I played eq2 -- never played wow -- up until early 2010 and I could defend it up until they removed avatars. It had it's charms simply as a game, and the raid content was decent-ish and the community was pretty healthy for several years. It was alright, and the competitive end of it was satisfying.
But overall, the story is just so strange. Makes you wonder if something like a "franchise" is even possible in an mmo, or if they all just eventually go full whack-a-mole and a joke.
Some eccentric billionaire needs to buy the intellectual property, close down both eq and eq2, stop eqnext, just to take the frnachise off the market until some idea that does not suck can be thought up.
