Thinking about turning my Barb Shammy, into an Iksar when Kunark comes out. I really enjoy my shammy and love the concept of the class. I thought about making an Iksar, but didnt want to wait, however, now I am rethinking that. I was just hoping I could get some insight as to peoples experience with Barb vs Iksar Shaman.

Thanks

Iksar regen is a neat trick, and the extra innate AC is of course, free AC, but IMO, the negative faction and inability to wear jaundiced bone plate (any plate-type armor) do not make up for it.

Unless your Shaman is under like lvl 20, I'd say no. Keep the barb.

Why not troll? Get the regen.

It's been argued that the stun resistance is more beneficial end game than the small regen is for a shaman.

It's also been argued that stun immunity is situational and in the end no race of shaman clearly outshines another. A players style might very well dictate which class is best for them.

This. You get the regen, you can still wear plate, and you can start it now, and not in X months.

because the regen is negligible end game but the stun immunity never loses value, and is also game changing.

To the OP: Basically you picked the worst race possible and any move you make is an improvement. Trolls are awesome imo, and I hate ogres... hence why I never made a shaman. I couldn't stand being an ogre (the best), and I couldn't stand being a gimp race in comparison.

Ogre stun immunity isn't really that game breaking or super overpowered. I'd say it's the best shaman race ability but it's rarely going to be the deciding factor in being able to solo something and in the cases that it is, the issue can just as easily be fixed by playing smarter/better.

All that said, Troll regen is nice but it's probably the single most overrated bonus in the game. It's like 1hp/tick, right? Wow, 10 whole HP every minute... AWESOME.

So basically if you never get hit the stun immunity is useless :p Personally I love it but I'm not quite sure it's worth the 15% ogre xp penalty, even though all shaman races have a penalty.

Having played both a Troll and Ogre Shaman the stun immunity is absolutely significant. If you don't believe me, go try rooting a mob that's hitting you from the front with both races, my Ogre always gets his off. My troll was very lucky if I didn't get interrupted. E.g. my Ogre died way less.

It is absolutely worth the exp penalty. It is by far the best of any racial innate ability in the long run. Regeneration becomes almost pointless by endgame Kunark, and other classes generally benefit very little from racial abilities, with the exception of iksar necros.

No, from what I observe, Troll regen is 9 hp sitting down, everyone else is 4hp. So that's the equivalent of having Regeneration on. Far from "trivial" for soloers. For grouping/raiding, yeah, it is. Why do you think so many enchanters go through the trouble of wasting 100 mana to big too big to fit through some things and be big, green and ugly?

This gentleman knows what he's talking about.

Illusion Troll makes it almost worthwhile for an enchanter to have a manastone :p

try soloing imps in solb on an ogre or barb shammy (or even iksar)....you can't, because of one simple thing:

Only troll shaman can wear this:

If you really care about this debate, read this:

That has a lot of info that doesn't need to be re-typed here.

I played an Iksar shaman on EQLive once it RoK was released, I loved it, with the extra AC (although that didn't really matter after level 20ish or so) and the extra regen(innate) was nice with a fungi tunic and regen(spell), I was nearly always full mana/health, but I wish I had made an ogre to be honest, the extra stun resist is nice!

Play what you think looks cool.

MMOs are about looking cool. Everything else is extraneous.

Level human, human siting, Iksar/troll, Iksar/troll sitting
1 - 1 - 2 - 2 - 4
20 - 1 - 3 - 2 - 6
50 - 1 - 4 - 2 - 8
51 - 2 - 5 - 6 - 12
56 - 3 - 6 - 10 - 16
59 - 4 - 7 - 12 - 18

(forgive the horrible layout)

My brother is making an iksar monk when kunark is released, while I REALLY want to make an iksar shaman, the raw power of the jaundiced bone bracer is making me have second thoughts.
