Recently joined, but due to the recycle server, I find it hard to play blue.

Is anyone else in the same boat as I? I was leveling an Ogre Shaman as my first character on this server and was having quite a bit of fun. I hit 16, caved in and made a Magician (my favorite class), and started leveling when I heard the announcement that there would be a fresh server released.

I was extremely excited about the server at first, despite knowing that it will probably released quite some time for now, but now I find myself not wanting to level anything and to just wait for the recycle server.

I'm really in the mood to EQ, but when I can't even choose character names that I want (due to the eventual merge of recycle and blue), it just feels odd playing. Don't get me wrong, if I had started a long time ago I would definitely be pumped up for Velious. But with nothing invested here, the only thing I am excited for is the new server.

Maybe try red to get your fix in? With a full group you get 300% xp bonus, should level much faster.

Otherwise you are going to be sitting around without EQ for 1.5-2 years, at least.

I've definitely cut back since that stream announcing it. I don't think it's totally for the recycle server reason... just a bit of burn out (and it getting sunny outside etc), but that probably had some effect subconsciously :p

I think everyone is looking forward now. Think of it another way, if you get your mage to the early or mid-20s you can be among the first to try out the lower level dungeons like Tower of Frozen Shadow rather than taking a level 60 in there (and other places) to play EconomyQuest with.

I considered Red since I played on Rallos Zek. If a team server were up right now I'd not even be here ForumQuesting; I'd be in game getting mauled by other players.

I'll probably just end up playing around on my mage anyway, as I'm sure the server is far off. Like Itap said, Kunark was around for quite some time and it could be a very long time until Recycle.

Yeah, it would be quite some wait. I considered playing EQLive progression until then, but... ehhh. There's a reason I don't play live anymore; the same reason everyone is playing here.

Actually I wouldnt think it will take nearly that long to do the recycled server since now they have the code. I dont think some of the posters really understand what the Devs had to go through with Velious and even to a lesser extent Kunark. Basically it would have been easier for them to just do their own expansion. They were trying to get it perfect with only the barest outline from distance memory and what they could find archived online and then recode it all.

I think it will be more about the hardware to run the servers. They probably wont want to try to run them on the same server together.

The right thing. Quicker leveling, fewer camp lawyers, a closer community. Starting with nothing is the true classic experience.

A lot of people turn up on blue looking for that classic experience but quickly get hold of some cheap/free items and twink up... that's not easy on red by any means.

I'm somewhat surprised at their lack of wanting to bring in a Teams server. Would definitely fix a lot of the hangups that people have starting on Red and would fix a lot of the "zerg" issues, I'd think.

EDIT: To be fair, I'm sure they WANT to, but Velious is priority. I wonder how long though...

A wizard would get you around a lot quicker, porting people might make you some plat...and the pvp is fun too depending on the situation.

One time I ported a guy into the spires in Gfay, then another wizard in pvp range ported in on 40% health...I'd already started casting before he'd noticed, but he tried to run away at a weird angle, hit his jboots just before the nuke killed him.

We had a good ol laugh about it afterwards ;)

I think I watched the same feed as everyone else, I don't recall them every stating that there would be a new server from scratch. I missed something??

I believe he is referring to the allusion to a green99 recycle server that would roll into blue99 after a period of time.

OP, I'm not sure why you are upset? As others have stated the Recycle server is likely years away. Also it is not as if the characters you make now will be deleted or anything, just the Recycle server will get combined in with current Blue99.

Only informal discussion here in the forums. The gist of green99 is a 100% classic progression server that will be rolled into blue99 once it runs it's course and then start over and repeat ^^

1. Recycle server is a minimum of 2-3 years from now, much longer if the kunark era has taught us anything.

2. Playing on the recycle server isn't a requirement, I doubt everyone will play on it. Personally I'm just looking at it as a way to get free manastones down the line :D

3. You might want to play a mage now, 2-3 years from now? You might find yourself wanting to play something else. People make alts for a reason :3

4. All characters from the recycle server will eventually be merged into the current blue server (from what they said on stream anyway), so technically THIS is where all characters end up anyway!

It's silly to not want to play p99 because recycle99 might be coming out in the distant distant future. If you just started then there's no guarantee you'll even be playing when that comes out - just play what you want now and enjoy the experience. If Re99 does come out at some point, im sure by then you'll be interested in an alt.

I hope they ban the trading of Re-99 goods/services/Platinums for Red/Blue platinum.

Allowing people to continue trading between blue and red already is pretty lame. But on a fresh server that is intended to give people a fresh start, people with millions in the bank at the end of Blue Velious shouldn't be able to buy stuff with that plat on the new server.

Also new server players shouldn't be motivated to farm Manastones on the new server, and sell them for blue plat. Atleast unless you want to sell them after it gets merged back in.

Recycle and Teams server are both Ideas that the dev team has to work on after they run out of things to do (unforeseen Velious bugs and timeline management are going to take work).

As far as I know, nothing has been definitively decided about either server. I do know that Sirken comes from Tpvp servers. So long as he is around, there will a pull for the Teams PvP server.

There is no guarantee that either of these happen, and personally I am doubtful we would see them in as little as a year.
