Why is this different between the red and blue servers? This must be documented somewhere, I must just be bad at searching forums.

Isn't it widely accepted that the red way is classic where ducking does not instantly stop the cast and you can sit during a spell as long as you stand before it ends and it will still cast?

Mid-Velious modification:

------------------------------

------------------------------

** Gameplay Changes **

- Spell and Item Interruption: Ducking will now interrupt a spell
instantly. You will no longer be able to sit while using items or
casting spells. This will not affect bard songs, which will still work
as they always have, but will affect all items, even those with song-
like effects.

Red has the classic implementation.

It has been acknowledged by Devs that blue is not classic implementation, but that it has been there for so long and Velious is Soon(TM), but future servers would have the proper implementation whether blue/red.

Nilbog telling non-believers about Classic spell mechanics.
Damn guys.

It worked like this till 2001. Unless you played something that cast no spells, this is something you should definitely remember.

In addition to this, you *should* be able to sit down during a long cast from a spell or clicky. As long as you are standing when it completes, it should resolve and cast.

It makes pvp a lot more skillful and you can adjust to new situations a lot faster instead of being stuck in a 7 second cast..
I hope this is a joke. It obviously takes a lot more skill to pay attention to wtf you're doing and not cast the wrong spell.

Thanks. Wish it worked this way on blue for next few months, but alas.

Yea getting med ticks in between CHs would be sweet.

Also penalizing someone for screwing up and mis-clicking their Donals and having to keep the cast for 20s would be sweet too.

This is actually extremely important and should warrant emergency patching on Blue!

Donals have been far more impactful on blue than they were on live due to shear quantity that dropped during 5 year Kunark and due to there being minimal penalty for misclicking a 20s cast time or clicking it then a rapid change in situation (slow wears of, train comes in, extra add, DPS pulls aggro and needs patch heal, etc.)

Donals is the extreme example but no ducking spells forces people to be more careful in general and punishes mistakes.

In panic hit the wrong key when charm broke? you are prolly dead.
Click JBB, get add, get owned before you can slow root or heal.

Sitting during casts makes some mediocre items much better also. Donals arms is my favorite example b/c I know my friend and I used the hell out of those on live leveling high 40s and low 50s when we had pretty mediocre gear. If you cant med while casting them they are pretty bad.

I'd love to see the impact on the raid scene for the first 2-3 weeks if this was patched :)

On Red it doesn't.
On Live I would always jump to interrupt casting, but once I got a mount, I wasn't able to do to anymore.

See the final post. The guy says unless he gets bashed he Is stuck for 20seconds and cannot react. I think some comment would be made that jump interrupts a cast.

More generically:

http://www.eqclerics.org/forums/showthread.php?t=2141&highlight=Interrupt+spell

They state the only way to stop the cast is to get hit by a mob or duck and wait for the spell to complete.

Speaking of which... bash/slam should instantly interrupt spells here, but they are not. the caster has a chance to recover casting ffs...

really? when I get bashed(other than as an ogre) my spell is instantly interupted. Also when I land my slam on my ogre I usually get an interupted msg from the npc immediately even if they just started their cast.

maybe its just a pvp bug then
