Food for thought....

Anyone remember Elton John's hit single Candle in the Wind tribute rewrite for Princess Diana in 1997?

If you live anywhere in the northeast region of the United States and owned one of the 33 million single released CDs of Candle in the Wind, I was the one to write that digital info on a MASTER CD in the process of CD manufacturing.

So, in essence, you have listened to something I have created. You are welcome.

So you did the glass mastering of the CD?

In other words, did you copy the master to a network and set up a laserwave machine to write the label and image onto a dye polymer coated piece of glass before the thing was metalized and electroplated for production?

Ultimately, yes. Your google-fu is strong. But if you want to call me master, thats cool too.

Just look on the disc if you have one and it may have the tech's initials on the label among other info.

Yep mine will say OMNI or Biz2Net. Thought you were trolling Kuzzik. only met one other chemist who had done it. Not many people are in that line of work

The tinfoil conspiracies still continue here 18 years later... was she pregnant? Did they have her killed?

Also yeah, Elton John old skool "I'm Still Standing" Elton was okay... but 90s Elton, nah.

ha, that's pretty awesome, Zade.
my mom used to listen to that song all the time. props on being part of the process of such a famous song.
out of curiousity, why the thread, though? did you listen to it recently or something and decide to share your story with us?

edit: just noticed your hashtag. musta been singing it in the shower? ;)

LOL I don't really know why I posted it. I was thinking about the various jobs I've had since I began my career and that was, by far, the most fun. I thought I'd share this one. We got to use a lot of acids. If youtube was as prominent then as it is now, I would have been posting videos of melting various things in huge vats of acid.

I wonder what the fumes from the nitric and phosphoric acid and whatever compounds created by the nickel stripping process will do to our health?

our electroformers did not have harmful emissions. the cleanroom was vented nicely and we had PAPR vent systems in our PPE. the only sketchy place was the reclamation room with the nitric. they had vents in the hoods but it would still sear nosehairs right through the PPE. nasty stuff
