So I'm waiting to join a highkeep group after being told I'm first on the list to replace whoever leaves. Decided to just chill there while I alt tabbed and did a few things, without actually committing to anything major in case a spot freed up.

90 minutes later a spot frees up, and some other bard comes in and takes the spot. I'm a bit annoyed but not too worried, must just be some mistake. But when I ask the party leader I get "RL friend come before a list you know?". The fuck?

Anyway so if "RL friend come before a list" means "don't bother telling anyone on a list that theyre actually not next in line", then I pretty much wont bother with that shit any more, cos what a waste of time.

We are reliving 1999 that is how it worked then and how it works now.

With that said I do not condone the action but realize that is just how things are.

The group/person in the camp is allowed to manage it however the hell they want to.

Yeah it can kind of suck at times. You just have to remember the "list" is your next if someone else I want more doesnt show up.

This also happens in solo camps. Sure your on the "list", however when they ask in guild if anyone wants the camp before they leave you better hope no one speaks up, or that their friend didnt just log on.

LOL thats BS. Well you are not speaking for me, if my RL friend decided to join, he is going to be the list too.

Tell someone to wait 90 mins and screwed him over is not on my play-book.

HK isn't a place you go to and expect to find a basement group hunting goblins begging to invite you. Most of those groups doing that aren't pick-ups but groups of friends that went there. Try going to another zone where getting a group isn't as highly situational.

I dont do lists honestly, whenever someone asks if they can have the next spot/camp after me I say "we will see, ill keep your name in mind". This lets them know their spot is not a 100% thing.

and about the HHK being a bring your own group kind of thing...

The few times I have been there a group is ALWAYS there, and almost never has to look long to refill a spot.

Well on the Tribunal it was most certainly like this.

Nope, this doesn't fit my experience of how lists in HK worked in Classic. Next meant next. What's wrong with people?

lol @ HK goblin groups having a high turnover on group members, there's plenty of better camps/zones for that level bracket if you want a high turnover and likelihood of finding a spot in a group.

I never said it was a high turnover, I just said there is almost always a group in the basement, and the few times that i see them shout that they need another the spot gets filled pretty quick.

It's just rude but shit happens. It's same as real life. I can say yeah You can come to the phillies game with me but then my better friend wants to go and you get bagged. Sucks but it's gonna happen. I personally don't do that to people though

Hmm, I must have been lucky. HHK was awesome for me. Usually I would be in the group gaining exp within 2 minutes of logging on. Those folks should have at least told you they had somebody else coming.

The OP's situation sucks, and I'd be a little butt-hurt if that happened to me, but to play the Devil's advocate, what if they had planned to add him all along and then the RL friend logs on unexpectedly? I doubt they intentionally strung him along, else why even keep a list? I will say that I've run into 4-man groups that openly admit they aren't allowing others to join, probably for this reason. A guildie or RL friend shows up, there's no heartburn of "I wish I could add you buddy, but this shitty <class> is taking yer spot."

I'm not gonna lie, my sibling or sibling-in-law would go to the top of the list. Everyone else can wait their turn. Friends included.

A lot of the 4 person groups not grabbing new members is probably this. At least this is the case when its my and my brother playing...

1. If the group is keeping the camp clear, why get less exp adding another person.
2. If you are doing well, if you dont know the person you risk inviting someone who could suck horribly, slowing down exp first by being horrible, second by adding another person to split it with.

@ OP that sucks man, but shit like that will happen all the time.

I was guilty of doing that myself, but I had about 15 people IRL I knew that played EQ on live, so I RARELY had to screw someone out of a list, but most times, if I knew for a fact that a friend was logging on, I would tell them sorry no list....meh

I assume this will happen to me on this server, being now that I'm the only person that I know on this server hehe...karma is a bitch, no? :o

OP, that is, IMO, unacceptable. Had it happened to me, I would have said OK, have a nice day and added them to my no-group / no-rez list.

I think I remember back on live that camp was broken up into at least 2 or 3 camps. Now it's only fit for one?

It was only ever fit for one if you want decent XP.
Live was a chatroom with sporadic mini-games of whack-a-goblin.

It's irrational to assume that lists are always crap just because you were wronged once. I've never seen that happen when I was waiting for a group and "in line," particularly at HK. Go down that road too far and you'll end up making a mage/necro/druid alt =P

Bad stuff happens, but good stuff happens too.

You make a list, you abide by the list. If you have RL friends coming in then just don't make a list instead of screwing people over.

Yeah. Apparently a lot of people remember it this way, but it's very easy for a well equipped group to take out all 14 goblins each round. I've been in full groups that were doing just that, but people still feel entitled to come down and take the warrior or raider room - even though they're empty because we've been pulling and clearing the entire time.

There's entire dungeons full of goblins, it seems kind of silly to have more than 1 group camping a few goblins in a basement.

You kind of have to assume there is one of those fast talking guys like in the commercials when you get on the list.

Just cause you are on the list does not guarantee you will get said spot when an opening is available. If there is friend, relative, guildy or someone they like more then you then said spot will belong to them. Only as a last resort will the list be resorted to fill a slot.

Move this thread to RnF imo.

I was in this group, and I had no idea you were on the list. I didn't even know there was even a list going at the time. So to get things straight, not everyone knew you were waiting. Especially since you told me yourself that you were invised in camp the whole time and "only the one in charge needed to know about it."

So if that was the case, why did you spend half an hour bitching at me after I already told you I had no idea, and I even apologized for what happened even though it was clearly not my fault. Then I offered you my spot but you "didn't want to group with those kind of people." Okay that's fine, but quit your complaining.

I don't understand why you weren't elsewhere exping if getting in a group was so important to you. Yeah, it's rude that the guy in my group did that to you. But I had to wait to get in the group too, and in the mean time I was in NK soloing. Again, I would have been mad if I were you too, but I also wouldn't have waited around for an hour and a half SITTING, not doing a damn thing, if it was really important to me to get in a group.

Yeah I remember on live there was always a guard room group, warrior room group, and sometimes a raider room group. Lookout room was camped by GR but usually they would allow a soloer to take the two lookouts. I remember sitting on lists quite often, and would usually get in after 30 or so minutes. In my experience a list there was reliable enough to risk sitting through it..only problems I distinctly remember having was when the group leader would leave and not hand off the list. Also I'd never put myself on the list if there was more than 5 already :)

Anyway, I am only just now getting to HK level here on P99, and am hoping it is as fun as I remember it. It does bum me out to know that a single group is usually camping the whole thing...that kinda sucks!
