Why I *will* be playing on Ragefire

P99 is the nostalgic home that one always returns to. It's an almost "perfect" snapshot of an old memory that I love remembering. Of course I will continue to come back to P99.

The one big gripes I have with P99 is just how saturated the end game is. You look to your left... and spot a level 5 rogue twink rocking their epic. I even managed to very heavily twink out my Cleric with her own money... just by doing a little hill giant farming. New players have gear raining down on them. I'm guilty of twinking out some of the new players myself. I would freaking kill for a wipe or new server.

Of course there are things about Ragefire that will seriously bug me. Just to name a few:

* Revamped zones
* The market place
* No bot/box restrictions
* Bandoleer
* Melody (learn to fucking bard!)
* Some of the weird "new" UI elements that are anything but intuitive.

Having said that... Ragefire is a fresh start and a chance to experience the expansions again. I miss Luclin and PoP. I enjoyed raiding in GoD. Hell, I even quite enjoyed Omens. Will Ragefire be the Everquest I remember? No sadly. Ragefire an awkward bastard of old memories and... whatever the fuck EQ Live has turned into. Once one accepts this, I do think there is some fun to be had.

I am sitting in a weird place at the moment. I don't know if I'm going to be playing Ragefire or not. The boxing is kind of lame, but that's about it.

To me it's a balance between overly saturated market on P99 or boxing to the max on Ragefire.

I was totally thrilled with the idea when it was talked about when they gave Velious a release date. Honestly though? It may be a lot longer than 6-8 months.

Can't really say much for the monks and mages. Having leveled up a couple characters now in beta... the exp gained seemed pretty reasonable (ex, took a good while to go from 1-2, 2-3, etc. I have no idea how the exp curve looks like at higher levels.

expansion launches and new server openings have always been the best time to play any game, for me. you can feel the excitement in the community, knowing everything is new and sharing that with your fellow players.

Ragefire will be good and I hope it succeeds to the extent of Quarm being launched soon after. PoP locked, let's go!

Live eq is for people that like to DOMINATE eq.. The botb guild will have 6+ boxes for every warm body they have on a raid.. Its just not my kind of eq, and hey even I enjoy red, where people are wearing bronze armor at level 55+ Or blue where a warrior is in full colbolt and a fungi at level 1

That and everyone will be using MQ2 and youll be like, how are they so good at this game!?!

that's why it will be max nostalgia. 6 months for each expansion until PoP. You will get 2.5+ years of vanilla/kunark/velious/luclin/pop before anything else comes out. Add in that you can vote to lock the server for another 3 weeks once the time is up....

By my understanding, it will be locked in Classic only for a minimum of six months. Once all end content has been beaten, a vote will be taken (I think once per week?) by all characters above a certain level to determine if Kunark will be unlocked. This process will repeat for Velious (i.e. another six months in Kunark before the option for Velious is given) and Luclin. After that, the process stays the same for each additional expanion but on a 3 month timer instead of 6. In short, minimum 18 months before Luclin can be released.

That's Velious launch. The Recycled Server shouldn't be expected until at least 1 year from that launch date, once they've patched in all the Velious patches.

So more like... 15 months+.

Given that they intend to provide melee players with weapon augments during classic to compete with caster DPS... I don't think they intend to address this.

There are *no* "private" servers that come anywhere close to providing a remotely authentic experience for Luclin and onward. While Ragefire may be a bastard... it's still going to be the best way to experience expansions like Luclin and PoP.

Anyhow. I'm planning to play on both blue and Ragefire. Especially when the new cycle server comes out.

Even with the economy... P99 is still very worth playing on. It is quite literally one of the best Everquest experiences one can possibly have right now. Hell... it's one of the best truly free to play games around too.

I am hoping the fact you have to pay to play on Ragefire will reduce the amount of people boxing, but people will still pay for 3 or 4 accounts if they really want to.
I think Newbie Armor quests are still in as well, but the pet damage is really the biggest issue. Pets out damaging melee without the caster doing anything will mean a hugely imbalanced population.
I wish they could put some sort of permanent debuff on caster pets to reduce their dps at least until Luclin comes out.

Anyone know what the End Content is in classic? Is it just Naggy and Vox? Wouldn't it also be the bosses on the Plane of Sky, Plane of Hate and Plane of Fear? Plane of Sky is a PITA... Only ever got to Sister Island (think it is 6). I would have loved to get my Shaman the Feign Death Ring even though it only has 2 charges (but can be recharged). I only needed one drop to complete that quest but Sister would never give it the drop.....

The subtext of this approach is they don't have to employ as many (or any) guides to keep the peace. Daybreak only there to make money... the funny thing is that I'm sure the subscriptions would easily cover a GM's salary, and not wanting to expend is actually going to hurt the subs a lot.

Oh well... if its anything still like the SOE environment they'll close the gate after the horse has bolted, they're traditionally great at that.

I think it's going to be sad that so many will box, and that there'll be a lot of powergaming and economy manipulation in the first week.

I think the low GM presence will finish it off for a lot of people in the first month. Will be interested to see how sharp the subs drop off and if anything is said or is noticeable with the online count.

When I think P2W, I generally think of things that you can identify later on. Someone is 20% higher DPS because they bought <item>. Someone can run faster because they bought <mount>. That type of thing.

I really doubt you'll encounter someone at level 50 on this server and leave the encounter thinking "fucking pay to win asshole" over an 8 slot bag.

This is awesome. So they launched ~1 hour early (after just yesterday they gave the exact time it the server would be up), server starts - people are able to create fully geared level 50s. So they shut the login servers off, people are still playing in-game with their level 50s, power leveling their noobs (meanwhile others that got kicked / are trying to login at the correct time cant get in game) - people in already have level 12+ characters in < 1 hour server uptime due to PLing themselves with their level 50s.

Good Game. Glad I didnt buy into this.
