I hope this is the correct place to post this ?

I am running linux and i followed a guide for (PON play on linux)

and it installed and ran just find. but i got the spells outdated on the character sellect.

Now this comes dsetup.dll vs DSETUP.dll from much debugging.

on linux you can have both dsetup.dll AND DSETUP.dll there for the p1999 files did not over write the original DSETUP.dll file.

Now i do not know if the file is ALWAYS DSETUP.dll (upcase) when installed. if it is it would solve some users from a lot of work if the patch file was also DSETUP.dll (upcase) instead of dsetup.dll (lowcase). it would at least have saved me ~4 hours, maybe i am just slow hehe i dunno

-Thanks

P.S.
I am new so if i am posting in a incorrect forum just me me know i will repost it. or you can just move it. =)

I'm running eq via wine, and my titanium install came with an all lowercase "dsetup.dll". No idea why you have "DSETUP.dll". Try removing DSETUP.dll and using dsetup.dll from the most recent p99 patch zip (unzip the entire patch into your eq directory).

the uppercase one comes from Project 1999. The lowercase one comes from the default install

standalone:
DSETUP.dll reports incorrect spells (at character select)
dsetup.dll works no spell effects (and crash from time to time)

wineq2:
DSETUP.dll don't work at all
dsetup.dll works but no spell effects (no crashes so far)

any advice ?

-Thanks

first I'd try a few in-game commands to try and get spell effects to show:

/showspell on
/particle high

if that doesn't work, then try this:

- delete dsetup.dll (or move it to a different folder)
- rename DSETUP.DLL to dsetup.dll
- profit ???

after further investigation, the default install is uppercase (DSETUP.DLL) and the p1999 version is lowercase (dsetup.dll).

On Windows environment, when you overwrite the file with the p1999, it remains as uppercase.

Therefore my reply above should be reversed. Try using dsetup.dll but rename it DSETUP.DLL

So your problem doesn't seem to be related to the DLL file. Hopefully those in-game commands help.

what do you want fixed? the fact that you had to type /showspells on? if so, that's a strange one... most people don't encounter that issue.

or the fact that P1999 names their DLL in lowercase while the original Sony DLL was in uppercase? If so, maybe devs will read this thread, and change the name of their DLL to uppercase.

The spell issue properly came from ini file recommended by the linux setup.

But yes I should have been more specific, in this case it was dll name I was thinking off. Assuming ofcause all default installs have same name.
