View Full Version : Swamp of no hope at level 4
It's really not bad. Field of bone is super overcrowded and I feel lake of ill omen has a bad exp mod. Give it a shot, it's actually a pretty good alternative I found out today for some casual soloing without fighting for kills.

Careful of the Froglok Gaz Shaman (http://wiki.project1999.com/A_Froglok_Gaz_Shaman) who patrols near the Cabilis area occasionally. Nasty surprise he was at 6 ...

I'd agree, although it doesn't support many lowbies hunting safely. I was there for a quest for my monk and wound up staying a bit longer just because it was good hunting once I got the hang of the place.

Too many bad dudes around the newbie area. I think the pathing might be super fucked up.

Yeah, I saw that giant leach blood gorge pathing through the level 1 area (that is just meant to be the very easiest mobs).
I don't think the spawn locs or pathing are quite classic in sonh.

Think Lake of Ill Omen newbie area is fairly decent too, specially for those odd levels in FOB where everything is either too low or too high.

Got taken out by some high level mobs at level 3... scraped my body off the ground and went running back into Cabilis with my tail between my legs.
That's a dangerous zone for sure. It's a shame for those who are persistent that they can't change their bind point to the zone in... having to run through the city each time just makes you want to go back to Field of Bone :p

Pathing might be messed up, or they just decided to have high levels path through the newbie area. Like putting SG's in Oasis, mean, mean devs.
Eventually I will start an Iksar and try out all 4 of the newbie zones.

I don't have anything like perfect recall of the old days but I'm pretty sure it was always sort of dangerous in the SoNH newbie yard. That mixing of levels is part of what really makes this game work for me. It's an unfair world.

I'd choose field of bone for the sole fact that is has sunshine and open environment. :D

Swamp is beautiful! And Field doesn't have tasty frogs.

All pathing in Outside Kunark zones in p1999 is fubard. It is a difficult fix so understandable that is has not been worked out. IT is hard to provide proof as not many folks posted about the pathing of mobs in many of these zones. Kunark zones had specific limitation on where certain mobs could roam depending on how the zone was set up.
example:
Frontier Mountains: was roughly divide in quarters for mob pathing in those quarters. There is supposed be one area they would not enter unless you trained them /pulled them into it. This area was roughly center of zone past giant fort and was shaped like a rough oval. mobs would path upto it stop and turn away.
Swamp of NO hope: no mobs except newby ones( lvl 4) i believe could spawn or wander within the newby yard on live, unless trained or pulled. The broken/sunken path leading south to fiona vie was a line that higher level mobs in this zone would not go near. The small islands that had this paths had mobs on/in them, but they would scale in level to about level 14 if i rem correctly, as you went further south.
Burning woods: Played extensively in this zone. Generally speaking mobs wandered all over freely EXCEPT in a large roughly square area near the giant fort and the south east undead ruins (ones near the tip of the crater) On live this was a favorite area of necromancer and druids and bard to kite in because of the safety from wandering mobs. There was some area where you would find concentration of mobs like crater and hills west and north having wasps , and area near sarnak fort having only sarnak s in it.
all that could remember of me top of me head at this time.
