I was made project leader for this particular job because of my previous experience with construction. i was still getting my hands dirty like everyone else, but i was in charge of overseeing it.
So i get there late and start cutting 2x4s for the frame. Didnt bother measuring anything because everything i do is right. one of the walls ended up looking like a pentagon but fuck it. artistic license.
cut a few, sit down for a smoke and watch everyone else toil away in the heat. a few friends of mine were there too, so i called them over to take a break with me and told them not to worry about following construction code. one of the underlings i dont know was like "hey, that isnt really fair" so i hit him with a bad ass nail hammer and told him to get off the job site. told him he could come back tomorrow and start fresh if he really wanted to.
someone else pointed out that i needed to take the job seriously, follow code, and treat everyone fairly, so i hit him with that same bad ass nail hammer and told him to gtfo. piethe of shit. all my friends laughed. felt goog.
by lunch time, i had hammered most of the workers, the only ones remaining were the ones who were too afraid to call bullshit for fear of getting hit with a hammer too. god damn it feels good to have that kind of power.
but then there was this one fucking guy.
he was constructing a doorway. measuring everything right, referencing the construction code book to make sure everything he was doing was legit. he made sideways comments here and there but his work was good. i let the comments slide for a while.
but then he started up just like the others. "hey man, i think you should really start paying attention to the code and take some pride in what youre doing here. this house is going to crumble if you dont start taking it seriously.."
right before i chased him off the site with my hammer, i looked him dead in the eye, lol'd, and said
"im not getting paid for this"
