How high could a character get in theory without hitting a mob by just turning bone chips, belts, pads, goblin ears etc. (without the exp turn ins getting so low it doesn't make sense anymore)

What would the path be? I.e.
1-4 bone chips
5-10 cb belts
11-15 cb pads

What am I missing and what is the optimal levels to switch to the next item?

You can do 1-9 with bone chips if the dorfs like you.
9-15 belts and pads.
15-20 orc scalps
20+ goblin ears.
30+ sarnak braids but they are no drop and you have to be able to turn them in atthe outpost.

Lightstones and greater lightstones are good from 12 up to at least 17. If you can find a seller for the GLs, it ends up only costing 5g per stone.

Keep in mind there is a % cap on xp gained per hand in so if you are handing in these things too early you are wasting potential points of xp.

Some items might yield better % per turn in, but for availability its hard to beat kaladim bonechips until level 16ish

No wonder why my last turn in of belts at level 1 felt so awful. Any more info on this regarding min levels for optimal ROExp

Nah can get to mid teens if you dont mind turning in 10 backpacks full of chips.

Yea, Xp in kurns till you run out of slots to put bone chips in. You'll get a level or two more in kaladim.

Samoht

That seems broken. Shouldn't go that high on chips.

Test it out. Maybe we've made it sound better than it is.

I'm guessing it is a back pack of stacks per level? So maybe 1% per four chips.

It isn't very much per hand in, it's just bone chips are in such easy supply (especially if you go the kurn's route).

There was a post on live about a guy that leveled to 45 on bone chips. Guess there is a new vendor that sells them and there are backpacks with a lot of slots now. He was bound near the turnin and guess had someone that could port him to the bone chip vendor.

I can't think what would make someone do that many mouse clicks.

One per handin, yields 6-7% each scroll at 36ish

I'm pretty sure there was a macroquest involved to automate the hand ins in the example of the level 45.

Bone chips are a surprisingly cheap way to PL. Standard rate is 10p a stack but I've got at least 20 stacks I've accumulated over the year and been unable to sell. In ec you'll occasionally see someone desperate selling for 3-5

Bone chips are great up until about level 13, I'd say. After that the ratio of turn in to how many damn bone chips you need to hand in doesn't seem worth it haha. But you could do 15-16 comfortably like someone said.

face npc
hover cursor over bone chips in bag/inventory
ctrl click
press 'u'*
repeat 3 more times
click trade
repeat until out of bone chips

doing it this way saves a lot of mouse wiggling.

*this will open trade window with npc/put another bone chip in the trade window

How high could a character get in theory without hitting a mob by just turning -items-

Around level 35.

But you'll end up spending 25k to get there.

Level 1 just buy Orc Scalps from 0-15. Then buy a druid or bard PL for the rest.

Since the death of the gnoll fang quest, I was looking for something to help level a new character. Just wanted to throw a little info out there about the bone-chips. I bought 40 stacks as a lvl 9 dwarf cleric with 0% exp, the exp was fine yielding around 4% per turn-in up till level 13 after that each turn-in yielded 1-2% seemed more like 1.40% but anyhow after 40 stacks turned in I hit level 14 with 24%.

I leveled the cleric completely by bonechips, but I never got a count on how many it took to get to level 9, sorry was a couple weeks between lvl 1-9 and 9-14.

the sarnak beads quest in OT gives good exp up until early 50s

I'd also like to add that Orc Scalps aren't as common as they once was, when they was dropping off just about every orc in game. But now that they are tied to certain orcs, they have become alot less common.

Orc scalps used to be my go to PL item, could post up in west commons and farm tons from the large orc camp there. People used to sale them for 2-5p each, now people want 10-15, I can see why tho.

Early levels if your a goodie, your best bet is with bonechips. Once they become a burden then try orc scalps.

I managed to get my Barb Rogue to lvl 21 by just orc scalps before the rearranging of the loot tables.

Yeah those scalps, I remember they were dropping on CB orcs at one point in my early days here.

Don't forget about gnoll skins from SK, 4 at a time of those at 30-35 are worth about a yellow to the right race/class combos.

No need of macroquest.

On live, you dont need to separate items and bone chips stack to 100, so you can turn in 400 at a time.

Sooooo... Bone chips.

Is there a location that's better xp than the others? I ask because I'm about to make the run to Qeynos on my barb (44 bone chips atm) who is level 4 to do the Tribunal necklace quest. Figured I'd turn in some bone chips while I'm there.

I know it's 2 at a time there...

Is the experience different?

Or would I be better served to save those, along with all of my other lowbie character's bone chip collections and put them all together to power level another character to level 5-6 in 20 minutes? :)

The bone chips xp in field of bone is pretty awful so we can safely say not all bone chips quests are equal.

I feel like I should get a port to BB at 5, then, because the exp there isn't half bad.

May be able to hide around a pillar, open trade window and have a bard in your group singing invis song, each time you get invised turn in... But yea, not easy.

Now it's deciding if I just want to stockpile these bone chips and use them to power level a character from 1-6 in about ten minutes or if I want to use them on the shaman.

I think I'll use em, because I can buy stacks later for negligible plat... Yup. Decision made. Butcherblock will be getting a visit from a tall dude soon.

Before the nerf, you got 4 hits of xp per turnin, 1 per fang. After the nerf, you get 1 xp hit per turnin. Quite substantial if you ask me.
