Blue and red are rockin the population lately...
Gratz p99 on a new milestone. I only remember like 1700 online for kunark launch iirc. :)

Went through Oasis earlier and pretty much all I saw at orc highway was pullers looking at other pullers, followed by a piranha style frenzy as one spawned and they all raced to tag it.
I'm sure it wasn't that bad everywhere though, nice to see both communities thriving.

Why does it say 1812 players on blue on the front page. In game it says 1607 players with /who all count?

Interesting. Several main reasons for this. One is that server pop has been on the rise since p1999 was officially recognized, dispelling worries of a cease and desist coming down on the server. Second is the growing number of people realizing that the progression servers are not classic servers. Whether that line is drawn at Freeport or at monk fist and mage pet power levels. Third is the polarizing issue of boxing on live servers and how differently it is approached here versus live. Fourth is the dated velious release, drawing old timers back in prep for winter.

1941!! new record as per the eq emulator site. I think with velious around the corner, the nod from daybreak and double exp weekend it has caused a huge influx of players the last week or so.

Between all the Karana guards being killed by evils, bards pulling every mob in the zone and so many people in the zone, even with double xp I was getting less experience than normal because there was nothing to kill or no safe place to med/heal. Lol It'll be interesting to see how things are this week with double xp gone.
Kaesora was fairly empty as usual. Gotta find those unused zones

I can only hope that the pendulum will swing in the opposite direction and people will chill over the next week.

I've been leveling in Nurga from 37-42. Its an amazing zone for necros. All the goblins are either single pulls or dual pulls, tons of long hallways to fear kite down, absolutely no players whatsoever, amazing ZEM, goblins drop research components.
Oh, and you raise faction for this quest when it comes out:
http://wiki.project1999.com/Di%27Zok_Signet_of_Service_Quest
Goblins also drop Mt. Death Mineral Salts which are turned in for more faction.
Downside? I guess money and its location? I'd say the benefits are well worth it. And for everyone bitching about overpopulated zones this weekend, whenever I got a chance to log on the zone was always empty except for me.

The bards, God, damn the Bards.
Yeah, after this weekend I've become convinced bards are basically game ruiners. I don't feel like I should have to pay a bard to powerlevel me, but it was the same in every outdoor zone I went to, some bard gathering up dozens of mobs, and powerleveling guildies. It's so frustrating.
I'm happy double xp is over TBH.

Double XP weekend and everybody avoids all the unused dungeons? Why? All that mattered was XP. Go where the people aren't.

It just boggles the mind that all these people were sitting around staring at bards pull entire zones and never thought to start looking for other people staring at bards pulling entire zones to start a group in a dungeon that no one ever goes to. There are a lot of them. A lot.

That requires people to think/explore. The server isn't going anywhere. You aren't racing anyone to anything. Why not explore the game instead of poopsocking through all the EXP to get to end game ASAP? From what I gather, the end game is packed anyway.

Nah, you just don't have the attitude or willingness to solve your own problem. Peel a mob or two off a bard who is kitting. You see the bard run by, then a moment or two later, the train of mobs runs by. I will snare a few to quad. Done deal. Its not that the bard is ruining your fun times, its that you are allowing it to occur. /petition (if you really feel like being a dick), peel a few mobs that you need, and/or goto a zone that is not on the normal (how to level) guide on the Wiki. go outside the box. Enjoy EQ. Dont follow the wiki mindlessly without any ability to make adjustments.

Think outside the box. A group I was in had a chanter AE memblur(?) AE stun(?) mobs out of a bards pack and kite them around while we pulled singles off of it. Great xp!

I wasn't following the wiki mindlessly.
This weekend I was in LOIO on my Necro and attempting to charm undead, around level 25-30, particularly Charbones and the like.
Every time I used sense undead, I would run up to a giant bard train kiting dozens of them. I would wind up peeling one, charming it, then have very little for him to engage.
I'm actually surprised how willing everybody is to compromise 50% of the zone's mobs and work around these bards.
Eventually I just wound up charming Varsoon the Undying and having him kill guards, and other mobs in Qeynos Hills. It was fun until he magically despawned.

you could have been in upper guk, sola, or another zone enjoying a great bonus ZEM (rather than a negative one) and not having to deal with bards
instead you chose to go to one of 3 zones where bards kite regularly and then post about it on the forums

3 zones? You're kidding right? All four Karanas, LOIO, FV, BW, DL, OT, WW, Lesser Faydark, OOT, Timorous Deep, hell even FOB, Butcherblock and Oasis, basically any outdoor zone that's good for fear kiting is where bards kite.

fact still remains: you sat and complained rather than leaving
also of the zones you listed, only EK/SK, Overthere, FV, and LOIO are actually used regularly by bards with OT, FV and LOIO being the 3 that I mentioned.

I very rarely say anything in these bard vs the world threads, or get involved with any argument, but this particularly struck a nerve.
As a druid, life can be tough in the 48+ range. You don't get groups, and can only quad/charm solo (usually). Which means I need lots of mobs to play with. Do/can bards take entire zones? Absolutely... is everybody willing to compromise 50% of the zone? Absolutely NOT.
You see... Proactive people not only make their own groups if they cant find one, drag their own corpses to get rezzed, go to a druid ring for a port, pre port to a plane to be ready for a raid, etc, etc. They also speak up for themselves. In an age of keyboard warriors and hiding behind a screen, people should feel more comfortable than ever to tell someone how they feel.
That being said, in my particular situation and neediness of mobs, I always TELL the bard to leave mobs in a specific AREA. If they are a dick about it (which I have only encountered once, and I have yet to see that bard again post petition) than yes, petition under the play nice rules.
Be proactive, stop whining like a bitch

Its amazing! Bards go where its easy to kite all the mobs!!! Why didn't anyone warn you?
You were sitting in LoIO getting frustrated that what you knew was going to happen happened. Meanwhile, I'll bet 8 billion plat that this zone, with a nice 133% modifier and easier mobs, was either totally empty or had 1 other person in it.

This is what I like to call part of the solution, not the problem.
As someone said before, explore EverQuest. The zones you are trying, are NOT the only zones, hell most of them have AWFUL ZEM's.
Frankly, I'm glad bards are out there "pushing" people to previously unpopulated zones, there is different scenery to look at now.

Except smokers weren't trying to get xp.
But lets say your real world related to pertained to this fantasy world for just a moment....
Smokers would be smoking by the shitty dumpster/dock area at work that smelled like shit anyway (example being poor ZEM and shitty zone anyway but "popular hang out spot") and others just want to hang out at this area because its the "place to be."
I would much rather go out and sit on the bench and read, alone, in the sunny weather.

Based on your horrible attempt to correlate real life health risks to an mmo experience, I would say you probably care way too much. Relax and go have fun in a better zone.

Nope. I found quiet spots in Upper Guk and SolA and got 20 levels without ever having to deal with a kiting bard, or anyone else really. I did get trained a couple times by some TMO cleric PL'ing an alt in SolA but he left pretty quickly.

Is there a list or post about the not often visited zones for different level ranges around somewhere?
Wandering around on my druid I saw a couple groups in EJ, which never happens (probably because it's such an annoying zone nobody takes the time to learn where you can pull to.) I also saw people killing spectral keepers in TT (which should happen a lot more, MR+FR buff your tank and they're cake with that super low agro radius allowing a warrior to pull mostly singles with a rare double.)
Interestingly, on my cleric I had little trouble getting groups in KC and he went from barely 53 to over halfway thru 54 despite the over-population and camp drama. Apparently most of the clerics that haven't already bought level 60 from the Chardok AE cancer, er, cartel, were busy getting XP on alts.

I think it was Friday I zoned into KC and saw 3-4 other SKs lfg - can't blame people for wanting to make gains on their hybrids but it was certainly competitive for the tank slot over the weekend.
