Being unable to drop money started sometime during Luclin or PoP. It was done because people would drop their copper all over the place and it littered the game up. The reason it can't be put in is because it's a client side issue. The code for dropping coins isn't there anymore in titanium.

Apparently people would crash zones by dropping craptons of copper pieces everywhere...Dunno if that was a myth tho.

In any case, I'd prefer to have drop-coins available (if possible) since I've done tons of drop transfers, on live and here, and never lost them because I always had see invis up, and did them in very remote or odd places that most players weren't even aware of.

I won't complain if it's not added, though.

Man, back in the day we'd go drop stacks of tens of thousands of copper in the newbie yard... watching these horribly overloaded newbs crawling back to nfp.

So much joy.

I know a few of people that used to do that in the Karanas. They would make a breadtrail from one end to the other and you'd see newbies following around... zonecrashes were prevalent. When they realized what was happening there was about another week of constant zone crashes before it was disabled.

That's helpful, thanks :)

There were many exploits with dropping of coin. Most notably would be the firepot exploit in EC. You would not get any confirmation asking you if you wanted to drop the money.

Scammer would sit on the firepot and auction something. Buyer would come up and try to hand money but with the firepot, the money wouldn't be traded. Money would instead drop under the fireport in which the scammer would either pick it up himself or have a spotter do it.

I would always use dropping copper when fighting hiders in pvp servers. they would hide and i would lose them as my target. so i would run around dropping coin untill it went to the trade window with them, which targets them. ;)

Man, I'm glad they got rid of coin drop. I used to hunt down people on PvP servers but they would just run around dropping coin until a trade window opened. Totally screwed my strat!

It was changed in the client, so it can't be fixed here. Didn't know it crashed zones, I thought it was changed so that people would stop losing plat when trying to give it to people, because apparently some people had bad aim and would just drop their money.

or some people would use bad geography or in game crap to make you drop money.

IIRC there were a good number of exploits usable with dropping coin anyways, so it's probably a good thing that it's not in.

I remember doing nice deco in king room in lguk live, being bored waiting for spawn... making the room pretty :P

It was fun, and shiny!

Not sure how it works now, but every so many seconds the game saved your character. You could drop pp in a secluded place, /q out, and return and you'd still have the pp and you could pick up the dropped pp.

The best use of dropping pp was to use minor illusion, then pick it back up. Doing this in front of the NFP bank (on my server NFP trade zone) was always hilarious.

There are certain things that trigger a manual character save on live, like trades and etc. There is also a manual save when a client is destroyed (~Client destructor). So if there wasn't a manual save after dropping the coin, it would take crashing the zone in order to avoid the destructor save, which would result in any dropped coins disappearing anyways.

Did the destructor even fire when the process was killed? I seem to remember hearing rumors about plat duping this way... but they were only rumors.

I used to drop a copper in the middle of the arena in WFP on my rogue then hide. Newbie would come by and try to grab it but I'd kill them before they could get to it. The best was when they were bound in Erudin or Gfay and the torrent of whining that would ensue afterward.
