Ok, im a rules lawyer of sorts on red. So I got what people seem to call Petitionquest syndrome.

I'm looking for the best way to petition, to both make it easier on me and on the GM's.

Screenshots - when I upload them to my album their always too small....

Logs - How do you make it so the log always turns on automaticly when you log in?

Videos - I use fraps (way too much memory) the I reformat the videos to something smaller then upload then to you tube....problem is the text chat which is so important gets lost on the way, (the red in pitcualar) is there a way to set up my screen so that the texts and UI is clear enough to see whats going on? is there a better way to capture video? what format should I use? how should I upload it? ete

Any other suggestions?

Thank-you for anyone who takes time to answer my questions.

You've probably already read http://www.project1999.com/forums/announcement.php?f=25

Under the [Defaults] section of eqclient.ini you want to ensure you have a line saying 'Log=true'.
(delete Log=False if it is there).

Try Bandicam instead, it's quite "cheap" if you know where to look.

Happy petitionquesting, may the hammer of justice fall on your side :)

All that work just to prove your correct against others in a video game. To think you could put that much effort into something productive...

This isn't just a 16 year old elf sim.... this is some serious buziness!

Lesson #11: don't get pushed around - petition! ;) ... applies to blue even more with the camp lawyers you can't pvp.

Save screen shots as .PNG to imgur. Not jpeg or BMP.

You can upload raw fraps to YouTube or vimeo. It will just take a long time depending on connection speed. You can also increase font size of chat windows.

Good to see a young rule lawyer learning the tools of the trade. Have you considered blue?

The legal requirements to play blue are a lot higher, previous experience recommended ^^

just dont be shitty to others and there wont be any reason to petition. if some one does something shitty to you, then just know they have way more problems then the shit they just pulled

The other advice would be don't flood the petition forums.

There is only a finite amount of staff, meaning only a finite amount of resources/man hours that can be dedicated to petitions.

If the petition forum is flooded with crap your issues won't get resolved.

I also suspect generating a lot of noise in the petition forum won't result in the guides/GMs looking favourably on your petitions in matters where discretion is required.

There's a petition mode enabled to report people misusing red ooc I think.

Yeah... that's going to keep them busy lol

2 real ways to get staff to take your report seriously...
Live stream to twitch and link the staff a highlight from your video
Record video of decent quality, compress it and upload it to a file hosting site. Attach the link for that and a virus total for it.

Youtube ruins your video quality, I'm not sure about vimeo quality but i do know they have some rules about posting content that is not yours..

Anyone can edit a log file or a screenshot. Sure the staff could dig through the server log for your situation but damn that'd be a pain for them. Always include unqiue keywords when you talk in game (LOL)

You can upload raw fraps
Fraps is dog shit. anyone who uses fraps is doing themselves an injustice.

what would you recommend Baler? Bandicam seems good but like fraps does mess with the FPS a lot.

Just to name a few.. that I'd use over fraps any day of my life.

Free:
OBS
Shadowplay - Nvidia GPU geforce 600+
MSI Afterburner

Paid:
Bandicam
Dxtory
mirillis Action!
Xsplit

I could post a lot more about how to get quality and performance, but that's another topic.
A good video that compares some of those including fraps... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dwBmHlsaBN4

I have been watching twitch.tv for years. I've heard streamers say OBS the most.

If you use a good OS like GNU/Linux, you can just do it via ffmpeg installed from your package manager with something like:

ffmpeg -f x11grab -s 1024x700 -i :0.0+0,40 -c:v libx264 -preset ultrafast -crf 0 /tmp/my-movie.mkv

Yes! ffmpeg is by far one of my most favorite video and audio utilities. I only don't mention it because it can be confusing to new comers. It is extremely powerful however.

OBS is really good for locally recording raw video that doesn't take up gigs of HD space like fraps does.

Here's an example of me forgetting to stop the recording on OBS after an evening of heavy lawyer questing. (which also ran while I was sleeping, I swear!)

Final size depends on what codec & bit rate settings you're using mostly. Not the program. Fraps only uses its own codec named FPS1.
