Probably asked before, but searches yield a lot of results.

What is the formula to group and get exp? I thought it was 1.5 * level?

A level 30 should be able to group with up to a level 45 and get exp?

1.5*level is right.

40 can group with 60

I forget how the rounding works though, I think it's 1.5*level + 1 in some situations.

But GENERALLY speaking, unless you're getting PLed by people doing the effort of killing for you, you are much better off finding a different group if you are the lower person in the equation, cause you will be getting almost nothing in a group all near the top limit.

True example:

I was in DL getting xp in a group. There was a lvl 50 SK, Wizard and ranger, then there was me. Level 43.

Yes everything (NPC) was completely destroyed and fast but my xp was dismal at best. I saw 1% every 10 or 15 kills.

Like the explanation reads in the Game Mechanics blog, you can group with higher level people, but they are going to take a huge chunk of the xp.

yeah, the problem was we were trying mobs that were too green for the higher level person to get exp, so neither of us got exp. killed higher level mobs and started getting exp.

so does anyone know if leveling with a partner, will the level gap widen or will the lower person slowly catchup?

I always thought it was rounded up, haven't tested it in a long time but I believe it to be true.

1.5*lvl rounded up on those hard to get numbers

I always thought it was rounded down. IE a 39 could not group with a 59 as it would take it as a level 38 +19

highest person in group = lvl x .667
lowest person in group = lvl x 1.5
