Birthday gift ideas for a new Troll Shaman

So my brother has a birthday next month and I want to start saving pp and get him about 1000-1500pp worth of gear for his lowbie Troll Shaman. He has banded armor and a couple of +15 mana/ +15 hp bracers, one golden wedding ring and a-crap mace which needs an upgrade.

He duos with my Troll SK so what would you advice me to save for as far as weapon, shield, armor, jewelry upgrades that would give him a bit more melee power in those low levels while boosting raw hp and mana. Kinda looking for best bang for the buck type set-up. That is why he had a golden wedding ring instead of plat, will upgrade those later when money flows more readily.

I recently just started on P99 and rolled a troll shaman too, currently sitting at level 50. I'm still using the rings, I've moved my SCH to range after getting a Howling Harpoon, and I only replaced the CGS recently with a Sarnak Battle Shield. Banded lasted me until level 25 where I was able to do most of the Totemic quests. Other (cheap) items to look into would be a couple of +3 WIS earrings and an Ivory Imbued Collar (~100p).

Buy him an hour of power-leveling. I'm not sure what the going rate is, but if you mention it's a birthday present for your brother, and maybe try and find a low 50's PLer instead of a level 60, I'd imagine you could get at least an hour for your 1k.

Why?

A) Shaman are awesome and don't really need gear
B) Because of your Shadow Knight XP penalty he's going to wind up a few levels ahead of you anyway
C) Most people forget about pixels 5 seconds after they get them, but he'll never forget feeling like a god for an hour

I'm happy to donate him a +55 hp ring, upgraded one to a Djarn's Amethyst Ring on my SK recently and I'm sure those rings don't sell so well as singles - you'd be helping my bag space ;)

Maybe, but does it make the best gift? Ultimately any EQ gift is just the gift of time (saving you from grinding XP/plat), so OP just needs to decide which type of grinding to save his bro from.

My point was that getting PLed is a more memorable experience than getting handed an item, so it makes for a better gift. But the usual arguments for leveling vs. earning plat as a low-level also apply here. Whatever item his bro gets for 1k is going to increase his leveling speed by 0.01%. But even if he only gets two levels from the PL, that's 4% of the way to 50, and at 50 a Shaman can earn 1k plat in a couple hours.

Power leveling is a great idea but he is on dial up and crashed every so often so am a bit hesitant.
