View Full Version : Why can we no longer edit posts?

It seems like within just a few hours of posting a thread/comment, you can no longer edit your post. I've wanted to update the F.A.Q. (http://www.project1999.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1002) for a while now but have been unable to do so.
I realize this has been around for a while now, but what changed with the forum rules? And why?

Something to do with Daybreak. At least that's what some guides implied. They cannot or will not be more specific. It's pretty annoying. I could get over it if they would just make an exception for the EC tunnel forum.

Yeah it's hurt the trading forum. I had a couple people send me tells in game that they had an item I no longer needed. Told them to go to a certain page to see that I no longer needed it. I guess I'll just have to say every time I bump that i already have certain items. less edits = more spam
the only case I see where removing edits is good, is if people are removing valuable information. You can see the date when someone edits a post, If someone tried to edit their post to cover up being a prick people will see that.

I wonder if we will ever find out what was in the Daybreak agreement

This is the part that kills me. The staff provides this forum (not to mention our wonderful emulator servers) out of the goodness of their heart, and they have every right to change anything they want about it ...
... but would it kill them to just give us a simple one or two sentence explanation of why editing was disabled? Like an example of how it was mis-used, or a potential scenario that could happen if it editing was possible, or something.

#BehindTheScenes
P99 staff does what it wants, when it wants. Doesn't announce it if they don't want to & most of all doesn't take crap from people who aren't their friends.
Edit: This one of the things I find unprofessional, It needs to be addressed properly by the staff in a professional manor. Not behind the scenes, not posted a week or two later by a staff member in an unrelated thread, not on sirkens stream, etc.. Post it in the bloody announcements sections of the forums. Berating me for posting this won't help either.

My guess is so they don't have to go back and review posts that were already reviewed since they could be changed to have unfavorable content.
If there is no edit though there should be the ability to delete your post.

I still don't understand not being able to edit the EC tunnel section of website when you can still edit the bugs section.

I agree. Bring back EC Tunnel thread editing, or at least let us know that the change was intentional, permanent, and is not going to be rolled back!

Still getting people contacting me from old tunnel threads - keep having to say "sorry, it's gone... months ago"

This is false. You cannot update in the Bug forum either (which is also annoying). Editing functions for the first 30 minutes or so then the button disappears.
The SOE Forums for EQLive also went to a no Edit policy a year or two ago, which was EXTREMELY annoying for certain things like guides and guild recruitment posts. Instead of bumping or fixing typos/changes, you had to create an entirely new post.
It looks like Daybreak kept that horrible forum restriction in place.
I would not be surprised at all if the written agreement with Daybreak involved some cleaning up of the forums and no editing may have been a part of their agreement. To prevent people from posting dumb things in 5 year old posts that may get flagged for their dumbness and no one wouldve seen.

Maybe we should come up with an offsite P99 Bazaar for EC Tunneling where we can edit posts. Probably wouldn't take long for it to take off if a few of the powersellers started pointing people to it.

Beyond NSFW stuff, can't understand why Daybreak would care what's on the boards.

Why would they even care about that?
Says right on this page that they are not associated or affiliated with daybreak in any way.

Good question, but I can at least understand the objection with it.

Editing time limit is a pretty standard thing. Not just to stop your average trolls but even former staff etc. I would say if possible guild recruitment and ec threads should be editable for longer periods of time tho

Rogean giving a percentage of the donations to DB to allow him to keep the project going.

Any sort of response on this would be a relief, if nothing more than a justification.

Why not create a separate forum about Project 1999 but not affiliated with Project 1999? Worked for the Brell Serilis server.

Glad I'm not the only one lol. I thought I remembered being able to edit EC tunnel posts but lately I've noticed the button is gone. Keep having to bump my post with updated list of my wares. Really makes EC Tunnel forum hard to use.

Seems to me to be in line with the vast majority of unnecessary changes made. A consistent stream of QOL reductions that will eventually culminate in a product you no longer desire. Possibly forcing the playerbase to a small selection of viable alternatives. i.e. Daybreak?

It's okay though, because tinfoil doesn't rust.

This should have happened back when thread tags were removed.
A lot of people treat this forum like it is an unofficial forum where they can say whatever they want but the reality is that it is the official forum for p99. An off-site forum should have been set up a long time ago where the server GMs/Admins have no power over what people post and people don't have to worry about bad things happening to their in game accounts because of the stuff they say online.

except for that the official live EULA specifically mentions project 99 (does it not?). If so, I imagine that has something to do with p99 needing to manage forum content. promoting questionable content would be a huge liability to a free to play game that allows anyone over 13 to make an account.
just my 2 cp.
side note: shards of dalaya set up a separate forum for RNF for one reason or another. oddly enough the devs were in charge of that also. at one point they nuked it for being so toxic - only to bring it back months later. not sure how this is relevant to the thread.. but fun fact for the day.
