It is supposed to wipe the hate list of the creature you cast it on, but it hardly ever works for me. I use it quite frequently on mobs that I have mezzed, but when the warrior hits it, it almost always goes straight for me. I get no resist message. Am I just getting bad luck, or is there something I don't know about how it is used? Should I always cast it multiple times on a mob, or what?

Here is a very good thread on the topic that will help educate you on how it works:

The short answer? It's a bit of a mystery exactly how the success percentage works.

For the time being it will be more efficient to make your tank taunt twice then kick the mob when breaking mez, then forcing you to recast memory blur countless times.
Or you can get somebody to root the mob (preferably not yourself since it adds still more agro).

It can be useful. I use reoccurring amnesia on raids but the success rolls are... well they are random...

Also, in case you ever get a resist message in the future (using amnesia), there is a bug report about that too:

Along the same lines as a substitute option....blind is fantastic for this. Blind doesn't break on inbound damage like root will. If you blind before the mez breaks it will stand there and engage warrior who is on it rather than running to you.

A lot of enchanters never pick up Eye of Confusion...try using it before a mez break a couple of times and see how well that treats you. Blinding luminance works just as well for other classes and is dirt cheap mana wise. Just make sure you never cast blind on a mob that is mobile or doesn't have a player in range as it will freak the hell out and act like it's feared, potentially training your group.

mem blur has something like a 25% success rate, its not that much higher from the memory blur component of level 4 mez.

So to answer your question, no. You should erase it from your spell list and replace it with root, and tell the monk & rogue to back up a step if they get hit. Problem solved.

Oh, also: Blanket of Forgetfulness works very well IIRC. Reoccurring amnesia has the same resist rate, it just tries it over 4 tics. So it's like a 25% resist chance x4 over 18 seconds...or something.

I really remember way too much of this crap considering it's been 10 years...

None of them have a duration, they're all instantaneous effects. Also, none of them are working correctly here. As I said in the post that guineapig linked, it's on the to do list.

Root it is then. Thanks for the replies.
