Im gonna try to make it short but it aint my strength...

Back in the classical live era my buddy Hugo had this huge basement here in Upper NORTH Norway all to himself at his moms house(single mom, two jobs, three kids all wanting their own computer and gaming systems)it was filled with kids of all ages and everything between stacks of pizza boxes and console cartridges, and sometime during 99 we were atleast 9 other people down there with him, which was a pretty friggin amazing LAN and goodtimes all over with tabletop rpgs and magic the gathering, a real nerd safe haven for my skateboarding punk ass to hide in when other punk asses wanted to kick my punk ass, just remember not to bring any chicks because of the smell!
When EQ came out only one of us at the LAN started playing it immediately(the Bard, he was an UO guy and the oldest and the only one with job, can you imagine how much moneys he borrowed to us?) but after a while one after another fell into EQs grasp. I first made a barbarian woman warrior but regretted at lvl 20 due to dying horribly in Warsliks Woods and being overall blind most of the time so I rerolled ogre who smiles alot. Hugo and I paired up together and made a warrior/cleric duo, and I remember times being tedious as he wanted easy spots so he could read comics during sessions while I did most of the labour. I had stacks high up to the ceiling with comics, he read all of those.

When I dinged 40 on the warrior and having a rogue alt I quit EQ and started studying in another town, during that time I only gamed consoles and Quake2 and reluctantly Q3 - after a year I returned to my hometown, having recently turned 18, discovered sex(a beautiful mix of norwegian and thai) and marijuana(a beautiful mix of tobacco and hashish), I didnt feel I had time for EQ so I was back to just watching the Bard play during raids when visiting the LAN, duoing Man United matches and the Bard. It was fun because he was one helluva player and multiboxer and his guild battled Afterlife and he was on good terms with Thott. I remember we had a great LAN four-man group when they launched the Firiona Vie rp server but it twindled out during our lvl30s.

Then during Luclin/PoP era the Bard gave me his lvl 51 ikky monk which really was a nice gesture, it was my "prime time" in EQ, although I did not like much of the new additions, and stuck with old player models, I adored the monk. I lvled him to 65 and got some AAs into also, we played alot during that time I remember I also kept it a secret from my gorgeous and busy jewish girlfriend, which made EQ even more cool. We were always boxing a billion characters, mostly from the bards guildies accounts, always great fun and never fewer than three peeps at the LAN working at it. The bard lost his job for a year and RMTed in EQ instead for one entire year, making atleast a good years pay here in Norway, and allthewhile I was trying to get him to quit, which he finally did when he got his job back and we never played any more EQ after that(was it LDoN era?). I can vividly recall people smashing their computers, throwing keyboards out their window, yelling "Fuck you for life Verant" "screw you Satan for fucking our dialup connection" "Fuck Afterlife and those fucking faggots" all in norwegian ofcourse, people destroying their chairs, ripping out their hair, smashing holes into the walls, biting into mouses and keyboards, someone almost crying and alot more because of EQ and I love it to pieces because of all those moments... the love moments the most ofcourse!

So most of us never played any other MMOs after that, some of them jumped on WoW, like the Bard did, but thankfully never applied themselves to 12 hours etc shifts online again.
Well, now some 15 years later I find my self still thinking of Everquest(and that amazing thai girlfriend who took my virginity at 17 and at the same time gave me my first and only STD) so Ive been trying to gather up the old gang from the LAN days to recreate those fun winter days, of course its not all that easy.
My first attempt was almost a success in 2013. I managed to get four of them including two new guys into P99 Blue server - but alas because of one guy deleveling 14 levels at bind spot, religous disputes, one lost corpse rotting with FBSS, one new baby born, one brand new and shining girlfriend and the norwegian summer finally thowing out of the glacers the group fell apart for the second time on Everquest.

Now I did not feel done with EQ, (I still have to level 40 to 51 at least!) and Im living in a place with literally no people, atleast no young, or single women, so I sold all my warrior gear and bought monk gear to start soloing during December 2014 - well the transfer went sour and everything rotted so I took it as a sign not to play EQ and put it to rest.
Now come June I quit/lost/put on hold my job because of some very strange situations but lets call it religous disputes and kung fu. All of a sudden I have alot of spare time to figure my situation out and I also get a message from a GM saying I will get my rotted gear back! Now I feel heck of a temptation to play P99 again and start a shaman as Im waiting for the monk gear(its been three or four weeks but I realize its summer so it may take some time or might never happen).
Anyway at present times, I use all my skill at manipulation and sweet talking and persuasion to try and reel the guys back into my EQ net - I really want to play with my buds, its the ONLY way I ever played EQ - and I accomplished to get the druid who refuse to solo to come back! Also the Bard who rules EQ promise to return with his enchanter when we hit his level and Velious comes out! Now I might even have the chance with the Monk who has alot of babies, he needs to relax also!

The Druid didnt have any char so I started a Rogue to go along with him. Now we are level 10 from two three small sessions all LAN with music, tea and thick smoke filled air. We headed for Blackburrow but I feel we are not very efficient there...Would it perhaps be better to just head outside? When is snare kiting efficient, Ive never tried it and it sounds kinda boring... As you can tell we dont really play all that often or at the speed of light, at best a few times a week, one LAN and one go over the Wire, but we really enjoy the social aspect of it the most, coming together telling stories, smoking and laughing so Im gonna try and plan abit ahead for us so we dont waste time walking around looking for good camps when we get our group on.
Im thinking Druid Enchanter Rogue is a weird combination that might not be very efficient, so I am planning on switching perhaps to the ogre warrior later on as we level up. I also have my shaman that Im working on solo.
So thats were Im at in the ever continuing Everquest quest in life!
I would love to hear some comments on my mission to regroup the old gang - and if anyone feels like they'd be a fit to our eccentric crowd we would love to hear from ya, especially women ;)

You can get your gear restored in game much much easier then doing it through the forums.

Just log in and put in a petition in with /petition and explain where the corpse rotted. A GM will get back to you and restore the corpse even if your AFK. I've gotten many corpses restored and never had to wait longer then an hour on both servers. Just log in right now and put in the petition!

I read until I had to scroll down, realized that I wasn't even halfway done yet, and gave up.

Ogre who smiles a lot was pretty epic though.

Cannot edit my first post to bold out the ending... Im not a forum guy, just read this forum and thought I'd make a post. I favour the longer posts in here and it seems like those other who enjoy a long read doesnt post much, like myself...

Anyways, druid and me are level ten now in the next session, are we supposed to start the snare kiting already? When we get a bit higher we become atleast a trio, will Druid-Rogue-Enchanter suck real bad(weird combo)?

I actually enjoyed reading it. It reminded me of the earlier days when I started getting into EQ and trying to balance being a teenager. Welcome back? to p99! GL with your new characters and getting the ol' crew back together!

Druid, rogue, ench could be worse. It's able to level fast by fear kiting a snared mob so the rogue (and charmed pet(s)) can beat the mob down and backstab. But if you move indoors without finding a tank, then the rogue will have a hard time doing anything without getting his butt beat.

Thanks! Yeah this game was always so relaxing to "go under ground" with for days.

Thanks for the reply Tecmo. Yeah I thought so, gonna get sick of the kiting thats for sure. Got a naked warrior that I can swap to as we reach higher levels, we're really into dungeon crawling contra outdoor life. I am also solo'ing an Ogre Shaman that might also be good in a trio perhaps.

That was a great story.
Ignore the lazy that can't be bothered to read.

My journey wasn't half as interesting but we did have moments when half the office where I worked logged in to take out a rare spawn that popped up. We'd have one computer logged on camping a spot waiting for a spawn.

Good read.

I would replace the rog with a monk. The monk can still follow behind a snared mob and do good dps. But the monk can also pull/tank in dungeons. I did a trio with cleric/monk/ench and we ruled all. Dru obviously can't heal as well as a cleric, but with ench slows and crack I think you can def make it work. Plus in outdoor dungeons harmony + monk pulls = easy mode.

Great write up! Rogue can't back stab if he's the only melee player in the fight, unless it's feared. Monk would be much better instead of rogue, or a warrior/sk/pal.

That being said, though, if you find a fourth that's a tanking class, the rogue will be very good for dps!

Message me in game - I'll stop by and throw you guys buffs or a few mobs of monk PL as a welcoming gift to the server :D. Char names are in my sig. Have fun hunting!

Thanks for all the response and tips and kind words, it's much appreciated!
Yeah, I really want to play monk, I might also get the rotted monk gear back hopefully.
But how would an ogre shaman do instead? Dru-sha-enc?

Not a bad combo. If you can go to areas with animals for the druid to charm, you'll have great DPS.

A more optimal setup would be CLR/SHM/ENC which has the added benefit of being able to pick up 3 monks (or tank+dpsx2) and then go slaughter anything you want.
