OPEN (R) VOX RAID – 28 July 2015 – EVERYONE WELCOME!!!!

On Tuesday, the 28th of July, the guilds:

Azure Guard, Europa, Divinity, Haggard Krew, Anonymous, and Omni

will be hosting an OPEN VOX Raid for anyone with a ‘toon Level 52 and below. The event will take place in Permafrost (and it will be up to you to get there, although we will try to provide transportation as we can).

Here are some things to consider:

* Because this is a Class R Vox, Class C alts are ineligible. Because Taken and BDA re on lockout, their ‘toons are ineligible, too. Not my rules – just the construct of the p99 raid scene.

* If two or more people from your guild participate, two things will happen: 1) Your guild will be tagged as a Class R guild (which is what every guild is by default anyway) AND 2) your guild will be on lockout for two Class R Vox cycles. (Again, not my rules – and the hosting guilds are aware of this.) This should have little impact on any of the smaller guilds who send members to the event. But speak with your leadership nonetheless.

* Although Vox is a cold-based dragon, this fight is 100pct about having Magic Resist. So to prepare, stack MR above all else. If you don’t have any MR gear, you’re welcome to come anyway, but you will be feared a good bit.

* Loot will be /random-ed among all those in attendance who can use. Try to be mindful of others and not greedy.

* Leadership and strategies will be provided during raid prep as we are staging in Permafrost. If you’ve never done Vox before, come anyway. We’ll give (hopefully) clear instructions.

* If you do NOT have a toon that is level 52 or lower, you’re welcome to come anyway and participate in clearing the giants and the lair – as well as buff the dragonslayers. It can be a fun thing to participate in.

* Most high-value targets on p99 spawn within a 16-hour window. Vox is one of those. The window for Vox opens at 06:39 a.m. EDT on Tuesday the 28th of July and closes 16 hours later. She can spawn any time within that window. We will be tracking her and we plan to engage between 60 and 90 minutes after she spawns.

We’ll update this post, announce the event in most world zones, and maybe even see if we can get a general broadcast out.

Ever since I lost the white dragon scale roll to a caster before that change, I always feel bad for bards going after Vox for a scale.

When I hit raid level 46th+ probably next summer, any hopes of attending an open raid will be dashed by variance. Even if I could get the time off work at short notice, fricken' variance will kill me if I finally drop-off to sleep, and the mob pops.

Detoxx my friend, you really should try doing something like this for VP on one of the lower tier dragons! Build up that goodwill where the rubber meets the road. Velious is coming, who knows what will happen when winter is here. People may be looking to side with the biggest and the best and the server needs to see how it's really done with the big boys.

You can get all the jewelry crafted stuff fairly cheap, in fact if you ask an Azure Guard officer we will craft some for you at the cost of the materials for this event. Tell them Nemce sent you and you want Mano making them. The other thing you're going to want to buy is a greater null potion. We also have a potion bot that can sell those to you as well. If you have an null potion, you want a haste spell like swift like the wind or something like that. Stay away from the VoG. If you are a fighter class a runed bone fork is a very nice and very cheap item for your ranged slot.

Yeah Cucs, we will be showing them how to do this raid the right way.

Part of this whole idea is for the masses that don't get to raid to truly experience the content. We've even toyed around with the idea of doing it intentionally sloppy to show em the need before doing it the right way using the solutions that the walls and indoor Dragon AEs provide.

Well, loot is fairly meaningless in a 17 year old elf simulated game, however, Vox is a really a cool fight with some neat mechanics.

Yeah. Neat mechanics if you consider part of the purpose of the raid: to show some people who wouldn't otherwise see a dragon encounter. The fear and the aoe and the push (against the CHs) makes for an experience that you don't get in exp. zones, normally.

Add to that that perma and its inside-the-lair giants may be new (as will be the floor traps, etc.) and I think it can be neat for the uninitiated.

There is a crucial thing about Vox that is similar to a lot of Velious dragons. Indoor AE dodging. It will have more intense come Velious, but Naggy and Vox have mechanic uniqueness over other dragons becuase of the wall avoidance.

I'm at 235 with guardian rhythms and the other MR song and no weapons. 208 if I have my weapons out. Is this enough? I don't have much more money in order to get other things, and the things I could get are all drops that I'm not sure there's time to farm. I also could work on hitting 52 before tomorrow instead, which I hear has a major positive effect because of some cap at 52. Any thoughts?

Hadn't considered encumbered before. The worst part about being feared is being out of action. You can run back fairly quickly to get feared again. Best to stack MR so that if you do get feared, it breaks on one of the first ticks.

Positioning: all casters do need to position. Clerics need to be behind the wall to avoid the AoE - AND...because Vox is what's called a bellycaster, the nukers need to stay directly under her ovaries in order to land spells. Otherwise you'll get a resist message...or, worse, a series of them (rendering you absolutely useless for the encounter).

So..on the Vox fight, we're going to ask that EVERYONE (apart from the clerics) be under the dragon all of the time - melees, nukers, secondary healers...everyone. That way, if aggro starts bouncing some (tank feared, low HP aggro, etc.), she'll remain approximately in place. It's a hard fight to win if she's chasing people all over her lair.

I was in the zone for the whole thing and saw approximately 2 seconds of it after Treeitek found me wandering the tunnels and led me to the right spot!

Grats on loot and two Lady Vox kills at once :) Next time there's an open raid, if I can go, I'll try being on time.

Nothing says winter is coming like a double Vox kill.

Really awesome for these guilds to make this an open raid, I'm sure there will be a slight uptrend of guild applications the next couple of weeks. This whole thing reminded me when I pugged Vox back in the day. Everyone was past the double doors just behind the bear pit traps buffing/medding. Then all of a sudden everyones pets rushed into Vox's lair. I remember a brief pause in /shout and /ooc. Then one person /shouts Did that really just fucking happen? Moments later we were wiped by giants.

Well, to be fair, I set that one up as "everyone can roll" and told everyone to with no restrictions - several other items I said "only if you can use" and judging by the number of rolls, people respected that.

With that many people and so many unknowns, you have to assume people are gonna do it right...and maybe that 35k goes to a needed upgrade rather than an ephemeral pet.

That sort of stuff on the back end - stuff that I have no control over - I'm not gonna sweat as long as the rolling instructions were honored - and they were in this case.

I think that was super awesome of the GMs to spawn a second one. I'll tell ya first hand, the coordinators of this event had no idea they were going to do that. We were just hoping to see a server wide message about it.
