Hi there, not seen any threads on this, is it wise to download Windows 10 on the 29th? could it effect project 99 in any way?. Thanks for replies.

I updated, I can say with certainty:
-Until last night, Nvidia drivers were fucking people's shit up hard. MS was forcing a newer, broken version of the driver through Windows Update (which if you're not aware, you cannot disable or tell it 'no'.) Windows Update kept installing these, over and over again, so no amount of driver rollbacks helped. It's solved now, but it definitely doesn't make me feel good about Windows wanting to control all my damned drivers through Windows Update without giving me the option to tell it to fuck off. Borked drivers are not exactly uncommon.
-Everquest works perfectly fine. So does Teamspeak, ramdisk, etc. You shouldn't have much issue with the game or commonly used programs that go along with P99.
I'd be weary of upgrading unless you know you're capable of going back to an older Windows version and/or fixing issues yourself. I personally don't think Windows 10 is ready for release at all (it's honestly kind of a major let down right now), but that's just my opinion.

Windows 7 was basically all I ever needed.
I got Windows 8 because I couldn't find my OS disc (prob gave it to mom when I built her machine) and thought "it couldn't possibly be as bad as everyone is saying, the internet is full of dorks"
And I was so wrong.

That bullshit is why this old box is still running WinXP and it's replacement is gonna run Linux. It's my box, it is not MicroSoft's property. Fuck them and the horse they woulda rode in on if it hadn't died when they forced 9000 lbs of random shit up it's ass. The scumbags rode the open platform bandwagon they championed to the top and for the last 20+ years they've been scheming to destroy the very thing that made their success possible. (Look up DRDOS and Win95, I'm not kidding about the 20+ years.)
If I can't run a game under Linux then the game's not worth the cost of running it. Mothers, don't let your kids grow up to use Windows.

i really don't understand this. install windows 8. install classic start menu. what could you possibly think is so bad about it? the only thing that ever seemed like a downgrade from 7 was the start menu, and that takes 10 seconds to fix. name 3 other things that make "as bad as everyones saying."
i mean, everyone can have their own tastes but i don't see any logic behind the windows 8 hate unless u are incapable of replacing the start menu, which is admittedly a fail. seriously, can anyone name any other reason at all?

That "app" look
Question: what is a single thing besides the replaceable start menu that makes windows 8 unpleasant
answer: the start menu.
seriously, its one tiny feature that is replaced with a tiny install and a click. yet everyone talks about windows 8 like its a plague. yeah they fucked up on the start menu and made it look like apps, but that doesn't mean the whole OS is junk.... just annoys me how hard people jump on the bandwagon. replace the start menu and all you have is a better version of 7, hands down.

the fact that they refer to mouse clicks as "taps" is enough to get me to uninstall
on the wineq2 front, Lavish has not said anything yet about Win10 support

The most exciting feature, and, sadly, the biggest disappointment has been this 'Game DVR' feature. I can open the record menu in literally anything -- iTunes, Skype, Teamspeak, Chrome -- but it doesn't fucking work in EQ. The only actual game. What the fuck MS.

I played Live EQ back on Windows Millenium Edition. -That- was a shit version of Windows. BTW Kaev, Linux runs P99 very well. Once I got OBS set up I was good to go. Still haven't looked into running P99 from a ramdisk even though I have plenty of RAM to spare.

Exactly what I was thinking. It takes a minute to completely disable the windows 8 app screen and add the windows 7 start menu. But it is the cool thing on the Internet to complain and hate an operating system over the most petty and fixable of issues.

oh no doubt and ill never debate that, that start menu is horrible and it destroyed its reputation, but people trashing it like a horrible operating system is just a complete circle jerk, especially when they claim to know anything about tech but have clearly ignored every technical aspect of the OS because of its start menu style. (i hear it all the time in IT).
i really have no reason to defend microsoft or anything, just cannot stand the bandwagoning. if you want to say the operating system is garbage though, someone has to give me a reason or two thats not so ridiculously easy and quick to fix, and is really only relevant to style.

Serious answer, they skipped 9 because Windows 95 + 98 are collectively known as Windows 9x. They didn't want a brand new Windows 9 next to Windows 9x which was 20 years older. Imagine how many morons would have installed the wrong drivers for everything too...

Do the blowhards at MS understand and acknowledge the fact that everyone who uses a computer wants it to behave like a computer and not a phone, or are they all giving each other high fives, thinking they are software marketing geniuses by renaming, relabeling, and reskinning everything so it looks like a 4-year-old's toy?
Seems to me like every new version of Windows is just a way to keep people paying for training courses to learn where the developers moved everything and what it's all called now. It's getting old.

the thing is that i suspect its ENTIRELY the marketing team pushing for all these bullshit changes. Windows 8 is excellent from a development standpoint, they added some nice features and made a lot of tools a lot nicer looking and functioning.... and if you replace the start menus convoluted bullshit? oh the same structure still exists hidden underneath the APP style bullshit and they didn't actually move much at all, just put a shitty marketing mask over it all. the microsoft marketing team is probably getting desperate and probably has a fire lit under their ass to not let Apple marketing leave them in the dust (because face it, apple can sell inferior products for more money - hands down).
recently my office was robbed and they took 2 MacBooks that were pieces of junk and over 4 years old, but left the stack of brand new windows laptops that were worth significantly more, simply because of how much better marketing apple had from doing the exact things you mention as annoying for windows to do. simple people want toys, and there are more simple people than people who care about solid technology.

It was actually because a ton of legacy applications have code in it that starts like "if Win 9*" to catch all versions of 95 and 98, which would have fucked up in Windows 9.

I hate the fact that certain programs have to open like apps in windows 8. Thankfully they allowed you to close apps as if they aren't fullscreen, but they still have that fullscreen look. For example, I downloaded a program to unzip files or something. Everytime you try to unzip that file type it first opens that app, in fullscreen of course, and then lets you double click on the same damn file again to unzip it within the stupid "app". Obviously this is just a horrible program but this type of app-program-hybrid shit was perpetuated by windows 8. That being said, i'm going to 10.

If windows 10 forces updates I will stick with 8. Not because of the updates, but because every time my laptop updates it requires a restart accompanied by a 10 minute timer. If I'm doing something important it would really suck to have a restart timer pop up.

i installed 10 yesterday morning. I also had problems with BSOD in regards to graphics drivers. Took me a few minutes to get that figured out, but now Im up and running flawlessly. p99 works great, along with the other programs that I use in combination w/ streaming and such.
I think the biggest things I like about 10 right now is the VT ability, the streaming from Xbox, and the overall look.

Search for a thread entitled "Win 10 is spying on you....." on a certain popular p2p website.
Or read the other 100's of articles from other various sites about how intrusive and hindering the OS is. It's absurd!
Stick with Win7 or go Linux. If you buy into (or even obtain it freely) Win10, you are just feeding the MS monster and making it more powerful.
