View Full Version : Barbarians and Night Vision

I have never really played a race that did not have any sort of night vision so I am... flailing in the dark, as it were. *cough*

I currently have a Barbarian Warrior that I am slowly tossing items too and I noticed that despite all the new toys, he still can't see 5 feet in front of him when the sun goes down. Not a problem while I have my trusty 'A Lamp', or when I get around to getting that Shiny Brass Shield, but what am I going to do when I start to dual wield?

So my question is as follows:

Is there a decent Warrior equipable piece of armor that acts as a light source? Any items that provide clickable infravision? A way to duct-tape my flashlight to my Hero Bracer?

Here's a list of items with Serpent's sight (http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/spell.html?spell=276).

Here's a list of items with Ultravision (http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/spell.html?spell=46) Though I think ultravision wasn't in immediately and came with Kunark. I mostly just remember serpent sight items in original EQ that warriors could use and that were tradeable.

Silvery 2h Axe seems the easiest, or the ring from Sol A.

Just carry a lightstone in your main inventory.

Do lightstones still provide light if it is in an inventory slot (not a bag)? I tried it with my lamp but it didn't do anything.

They do, provided they're in a primary slot--not a bag.

Lanterns have to be held.

Which reminds me, I *vaguely* remember my Human characters starting out with a weak candle in addition to the usual 'newbie gear', but I cannot for the life of me recollect whether that was original, or something patched in later. Does anyone know?

I thought that was the case with the lightstone but the lamp was throwing me off. Thank you muchly for the help Danth.

I thought due to the new client (titanium) everyone gets infravision?

I had a barb on live, and it used to be at night you literally could not see anything infront of you however here he can see with no problem even without a lightsource.

That's a great question, and I remember the candle as well. But I didn't start until Velious, so not sure if it is classic.

"I thought due to the new client (titanium) everyone gets infravision?"

No. Night is simply lighter than it originally was. A few specific areas (such as inside Befallen) are still extremely dark, however.

I seem to remember something about a candle as well. I know that in Ultima Online all characters started with a little candle but I seem to have a vague memory of it happening in EQ too....

Hmmmm

Yeah, humans used to start with candles, at least in Qeynos, from my recollection. If you've got decent Paineel (Heretic) faction, you can get a key for the lift that also serves as a light source.

There's also the obvious, which no one has mentioned yet, which is to get a guise of the deciever. Illusion Dark Elf gives ultravision.

I see that the guise says "Class: Bard, Rogue". Does that mean it is still clickable by any class but only equipable by bards and rogues?

Nevermind, I just read that you can. Thanks all for the suggestions.

Fire beetle eyes are good for starters before you can work your way up to a lightstone.

Stein of Moggok is an excellent light source but I can't think of a barbarian class that would have much use for it.

If you look at allakhazam or Lucy light information is provided for just about every item and to my knowledge in most cases light info has not changed since 1999 on items.

I started around Dec '99 or Jan '00 and I remember the candle.
