I was going to update my laptop from 7 to 10 - has anyone updated yet? If so are there any issues? Just a curious thing before I actually pull the trigger on my update.

Yea I would like to know this too - Has anyone actually updated to Windows 10, and has it worked with the new update for Project 1999?

Disclosure of Data

We will share your data with your consent, including as necessary to complete any transaction or provide any service you have requested or authorized.

We share some data collected in connection with the Program with third parties. For example, we may share data about the performance of a particular hardware or software component on your device with the manufacturer of that component to enable them to improve how their component works with Microsoft products and services.

We may share or disclose information about you with other Microsoft controlled subsidiaries and affiliates, and with vendors or agents working on our behalf. For example, companies we've hired to provide customer service support or assist in protecting and securing our systems and services may need access to personal information in order to provide those functions. In such cases, these companies must abide by our data privacy requirements and are not allowed to use the information for any other purpose. We may also disclose information about you as part of a corporate transaction such as a merger or sale of assets.

We may also access, disclose and preserve information about you when we have a good faith belief that doing so is necessary to:

comply with applicable law or respond to valid legal process from competent authorities, including from law enforcement or other government agencies;

protect our customers, for example to prevent spam or attempts to defraud Microsoft’s customers, or to help prevent the loss of life or serious injury of anyone;

operate and maintain the security of our products and services, including to prevent or stop an attack on our computer systems or networks; or

protect the rights or property of Microsoft, including enforcing the terms governing the use of the services—however, if we receive information indicating that someone is using our products or services to traffic in stolen intellectual or physical property of Microsoft, we will not inspect a customer’s private content ourselves, but we may refer the matter to law enforcement.

Why you would ever agree to that, regardless of what you may or may not do on your computer, is beyond me.

Your school, bank, cell phone network, cable company, internet supplier, facebook/social sites etc etc all shares pretty much the same info.

I still haven't had my upgrade option yet.

I dig it. Windowed mode is more slim I can see a little more. The new sounds and notifications are pretty good too.

P99 ran fine on Windows 10 for me. Just copied it directly from my Win7 desktop to the Win10 laptop.

Had to turn off real time shadows because its a laptop GPU, otherwise ran fine.

Youre not reading the main point.
For any reason, if police or any "enforcement" ask microsoft for your computer files, they get it. No courts, no nothing. Hell, you probably wont even know they got access.
Police are dangerous enough already, Using windows 10 just sacrifices more of your rights.

They do this already. This is not new. Look at everything that has been going on with Stingray, Prism, NSA, Facebook and Twitter profiling, SOPA/CISPA/TPP/Whatever, the Patriot/Freedom Act, and FBI warning letters. Big companies just can't wait to hand your data over to LEOs. There are also tons of encryption and privacy backdoors just for the NSA and other organizations. Must be some big money incentives behind it, in addition to it being easier and less risky to screw a random faceless customer over than to mess with a big LEO.

Hell, look at what David Cameron in the UK is pushing for encryption backdoors ("Do you want to live in a world where a person's conversation is completely private?"), and the recent FBI director letter about the need for encryption backdoors.

New system seems to be "collect data/evidence, get warrant/authorization later."

Only way to be safe is through obscurity. Use a wired ethernet cord, and when you're not using your comp, unplug all of it.

Windows 10 is a small cog in this machine.

In the meantime, this is about the best you can hope for on Windows 10 for privacy at the moment:

So since our privacy is being eroded by several opponents, we should obviously just give up and it it be completely eroded. Solid plan, chief.

Please don't evangelize your nihilism

Thulghor

Yeah, ok buddy. Way to miss the point entirely. Also has nothing to do with nihilism. Or you for that matter.

I was responding to Ranndom here. If you're telling people not to upgrade to Windows 10 because of privacy fears and the police knocking on your door, you haven't been paying attention.

But if you want to try to derail this thread any further, be my guest.

Windows 10 seems to EQ just fine.

If you're part of a domain you won't ever be prompted. You can download the installer from Microsoft, though: Download Windows 10 (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10)

I'm responding to subtle suggesting that any attempt to take action is pointless/too late/etc.

Also, using a wired connection is not going to add privacy unless you're trying to evade packet sniffing at Starbucks. Neither is unplugging your computer (or am I missing the sarcasm?)

What will help is when third party tools are developed that block the transmission of personal data to the aggregation services, sort of like how AdBlock disables the ability to use cookies, trackers, etc.

Check the above link if you want to discuss these things further in Off-topic chat. I'm not going to derail this discussion any further. This is turning into trollishness, and we're not supposed to troll the technical discussion forum.

After installing Windows 10, my character models are invisible but I can see melee items. I also now have input lag (controls feel very "soft") as well as an FPS drop.

PC stats are i5-3570k, 8 GB RAM, and... oh I may have just found the problem. My vid card is not listed in dxdiag. Will edit.

I had this problem too, updating my video card's drivers was the fix for me :) In case anyone else runs into this.

Has anyone encountered trouble with Win10 and EQ Logfiles? I just noticed that my logfiles in C:\Program Files (x86)\Sony\EverQuest\Logs weren't updating...

will check out admin privileges...

Came to the forum for this exact same problem. I haven't figured it out. Also it won't let me save the character_p1999.ini files.

To get logging and screenshots to work, I had to go to eqgame.exe Properties --> Compatibility --> Change Settings for All Users --> Run this program in compatibility mode for: Windows 98 / Me

If you are having log and disk write issues with the P99 folder try installing it to a root directory or any directory that doesn't have special permissions (program files).

Try moving EQ to a new folder and running from there. for example c:\eqtitanium

I've been playing on a windows 10. No problems so far. I crash sometimes when camping out to character select.

I crash whenever I camp in Win 10. This is a problem as I often transfer between characters by dropping on the ground and don't want to log back into server every time.

Beinen

Since the last two patches I find it's less likely I crash when camping. Still like 50% but it seems less than it used to be. Windows 10 is better than 7 which I had previously, hands down.

Bump.

Just bought a new laptop. HP intel i7 8gb ram, nvidia gtx 930m 2gb graphics card, 2in1 1980x1020p touch screen.

Problem I am having is despite updating the eqclient.ini file, full screen mode will not work. I ran it in compatibility mode win xp and got full screen to work except that after exiting the game, my viewable desktop is shrunk to 800x600 and I have to restart my pc.

Any thoughts?

Make sure EQ is using the nvidia card. It may be defaulting to the integrated i7 gpu if it has one.

Nadir
10-03-2015, 09:11 AM
Wow. Just ran options editor and sure enough it is defaulting to the on board gpu. Unfortunately, the options editor is not listing the nvidia card as an option. Any idea how that can be fixed?

Update: everquest is not listed as a supported game for the 930m nvidia card...

JackFlash
10-03-2015, 08:45 PM
It should work. Don't use the EQ options editor. Use NVIDIA Control panel to set eqgame.exe to use the nvidia card through custom profiles. I've never had this setup but I'm pretty sure that's how you do it.

Maybe someone with experience can chime in!
