Ive seen a few variation of this type of thing recently...

`Quad Core Android 4.4 Smart TV BOX Media Player XBMC HDMI WiFi HD Mini PC 8GB`

I dont really watch TV anymore, but a friend is looking for a way to get online ...and tbh his abillity with computers= i can use a remote control.

Been using pc since 94 and never migrated to consoles or handhelds; although i own a psion 5 !

XBMC is a risc based operating system right? people run this on rspberry pi.

SO this can be tinkered with?

End of the day the lad just wants to go on google for searches and open his email. Any of the media stuff would be a bonus to him.

Can he log into his email from this? or is it just a media player?

shame these cant be rigged to play EQ :D

I suspect this is simply a listening device, so the chinese state security can read his emails...

Thats just a media player. Its not a mini computer.

XBMC (OSMC now) runs on Linux on Raspberry Pi so it's a well documented OS that's very configurable. -- Mg

just noticed its maybe wrong power supply for uk, will look into that.

Communication WIFI Support 802.11 b/g/n
Bluetooth BT 4.0

So i assume you can get online via a wifi router.

having only one usb socket is a bit of a problem....will xbmc be ok if you attach a usb hub?

if they just want something to browse the web & read e-mail with, get a chromebook:

the device you're looking at is a media player, not really designed for browsing the web or reading e-mail. XBMC is not an operating system, it's an interface that you can use to organize and play your movies, TV shows, etc.
