Platinum in Velious

What's worth buying with plat in Velious? I started looking at upgrades for my main, and every single item is either a raid/guild quested item or is a no-drop item off a raid mob.

What are the must haves that are tradeable items (aside from quest gems) and will actually hit the market from players farming, or is Velious basically different from Kunark in the sense that most higher end items are not able to be traded?

Note, I'm approaching this from the perspective of a bard, and the Ornate Velium Pendant and Holgresh Elder Beads are easily replaced by faction song and Singing Steel Helm.

Drums of the Beast - Only primary usable drum in game.
Quest Gems + Armor MQs as you cite. It'll be awhile before Dragon/Giant armor MQs are available but you can buy Kael ones right now I bet.
Silver Chitin Wrist is good
Velium HP Rings

Beyond that... Yea most things are No Drop and it's fantastic. Platinum being less valuable makes having a group or guild to kill things far more valuable in EQ. Which is good. People just farming Tranix for months and selling crowns to fund all their gear is lame. Now you have to go out and quest most of your own gear $$$.

Give it time. Once people get tired of velious and start liquidating for plat before RMTing, plenty of valuable droppables will be available. Even BoCs, SoDs, barb legs, barb mask? lots of really top end shit are droppable but simply unavailable outside of guilds. That is, if they have any intention of staying in the guild :3

I bought silver chitin hand wraps for my monk. They're a bit better than an FBSS and similarly priced on red. I got them for 4k, which is how much I still see people asking for the FBSS

Best use of plat would be to fund continually failing the 10th ring quest to keep Thurgadin dead.

Aren't all the skyshrine/kael/thurg class armor pieces (the quests with 3 gems and a drop from some mob) MQable?

That seems like it would be a huge market of high-quality buyable MQ gear that otherwise takes a raid (or several groups) to obtain.

I guess no guilds are selling at this early in the game, though. Or maybe I just don't know enough about those quests.

Thurgadin armor quest are more than likely the most commons one in the forseeable future.

Not sure what kind of madness kael is but their is some Gaints that drop armor piece near the WL zone line if I remember correctly

I think so. Tormax's head to Yelinak gives those. I doubt they'll be for sale for years, though.

Barbed Dragonscale Boots will be, though. Those are from turning in dragon heads from WW.

You should see Jeremy's mule.

I think Nordenwatch's mule, before he RMTed off the server, held more platinum than anyone else's individual character. He had something like 12 million platinum.
