Favorite Zone/Least Favorite Zone within Norrath

Whats your favorite and least favorite zone in the game?


My favorite is DEFINITELY Crystal Caverns! the music is awesome, the lore/history is cool, the layout is interesting and gives me the super feel good feelings. Loot is decent. Immersion on high when I'm chillin (no pun intended) in that place. <3



My least favorite zone is probably SolB. I really can't stand the mazes and the lava and shit. It's gloomy and depressing and I get lost all the time. Map or no map. Place is a clusterfuck to me. The majority of the mobs are boring to kill too. I absolutely refuse to lvl up there.

Favorite: City of Mist
Least Favorite: Permafrost

City of Mist was always fun with the random drops (not the best, but still fun to find) and amazing xp. Quadding here as a druid with Lumi staff was a great time. You had just enough time to run from corner to corner in the courtyard and click the staff and run away again without getting hit. Very safe and close to zoneline as well. Could always easily get a group too.

Permafrost. Pure. Hell. I remember leveling here from somewhere in the early 50's until 60 in the pit charm kiting. Mind numbingly boring. No loot, no money, and if you died, forget getting a rez. Luckily as a druid I could bind here in a fairly safe location and port out to Sow myself as needed.

Favorite might be Highkeep because you feel isolated from the big towns and hunting areas but you also have a bank and merchants etc. Its like having your own house in game. Also you can hunt there at many ranges, 11-15, 20-35, and 50+.

Least favorite probably Solusek A. I know its a great zone but sowed goblins are just stupid at the level you are supposed to fight them. LoS issues for days.

Runner ups for least favorite would have to be West Karana, Everfrost, and maybe Splitpaw but I never gave it much of a chance.

For least favorites, I would say a lot of Kunark's outdoor zones. I definitely like the expansion but there were a lot of generic jungles and no new music. It just didn't compare to the more imaginative places in Faydwer and Antonica.

Favorite: has to be South Karana. I loved killing at KFC, right outside of paw(my second favorite zone), home to crafted armour quest for my warrior, seeing Quillmane fly by.... so many good memories in that zone. Had a static group with my rl bestfriend and some guild mates. Definanlty my favorite times in EQ

Least Favorite: Kithicor Forest. I died so many damn times running through that zone at night. I only used it when absolutely necessary and avoided it at night at all costs.

On Antonica, Favorite is Blackburrow. Least favorite is West Karana. It's just too frikkin big!
Faydwer: Fav is Crushbone, no matter how high I got I never had more fun anywhere than camping the throne room. Least Fav, Kedge. I always reflexively hold my breath whenever I am underwater.
Odus, Love The Hole. Don't believe I have ever gone any place else outside of the cities.
Kunark: Kurns Tower is my favorite zone in the whole game. Sometimes I would PL a character to 10 just so I could go there and then delete the character once everything turned green. Least Fav, Swamp of No Hope, hands down. Worst newbie zone on Norrath.
Velious: Fav is Crystal Caverns, least is Sirens Grotto.

I don't get the hate for solb that someone else said though. It's rather easy to navigate. Especially to go to FGs, I don't get how people can't learn that. It's basically straight, left at the T (bats) then take the 2nd right.

Live side guk though? I always get lost there.

Favorite: Sebilis, South Karana, Lake Rathe and Rathe Mountains. I love those zones

Least favorite: Dagnor's Cauldron, Emerald Jungle and Swamp of no Hope

I'll never forget the time when I ran through Trakanons Teeth with guildies, following (being guided by more like) these massive pillars half way across the zone. On through the ruins of Sebilis flanked by huge statues of Iksar who seemed to be kneeling in reverence, I couldn't help but stop and stare at all the ruins with strange carvings on the walls.

This is something EQ did really well. It made you feel insignificant, and a stranger in a strange land. The devs did a great job of conveying a sense of history and intrigue, and nowhere is that more apparent than in Trakanons Teeth. That sense of scale and foreshadowing before entering Old Sebilis is genius and it really struck a chord with me.

When I clicked on the stone to go into Seb, I just kept thinking "oh god what I getting myself into here".

Least favorites: Overthere, Blackburrow, Crypt of Decay (once again no classic on last one. I really love PoP zones for the most part).

Favorit zone: Upper Guk love this zone. Frogock alway made me laugh/cry they mean as f##Ck. so many shamans bleh.

Zone I hate: Commons, Swamp of no hope Such great potential for a zone but horribly horribly implemented and unfinshed.

Favorite: Qeynos and Thurgadin because of all the active NPCs running around, Iceclad Ocean, Butcherblock Mountains, Lesser Faydark, and Rathe Mountains.

Least favorite: West Karana, it's so big and pointlessly empty. Firiona Vie scares me.

Plane of Fire, Bastion of Thunder, Ruins of Lxanvom, Plane of Water - Probably my favorite classic zones.

Blackburrow will always hold a special place in my pixel heart as the first dungeon a Half-Elf comes upon and the first time you associated with players of other races (Erudites and Barbarians).

But those PoP zones were incredible group content <3.

Personal favorite: Mistmoore! Loved it on live, always had an eerie feel about it, especially as I had to be led around and would get lost without someone to follow. We set up in one of the small rooms (probably past where the cooks are) and someone pulled a huge train...so classic!

On P99 it's more camped but still very enjoyable.



Most hated: Kedge Keep *ducks*

Least Favorite: Dagnor's Cauldron. I don't have anything good to say about this zone.

Kael one of my Favorites. :cool: Lake of Ill Omen just a stupid, long, stuff jumps out and attacks you, nothingness. Loot on average just sucks. Permafrost, Runnyeye right up there also. :eek:

FAVORITE: Surefall Glade. Place is gatdam beautiful! Only trees in all of Norrath that produce a refreshing, consumable sap!

LEAST FAVORITE: Kedge Keep. Took a big breath, and dove down to this dungeon once in search of fabled bounties of seafood! Short story shorter: I poked my head around a corner and was immediately eaten by some apparently famished swordfish. Thumbs down. 2 out of 5 stars nice decor but would not go back for a 2nd visit

Ooh sky would have to be one of my least favorites too. The idea of it sounds cool but it was boring and the keying process is downright unfun for me.

I enjoy most of Velious. I think when the devs created this expansion they really took a lot of good lore that was in the original story and made it come to life. My dad worked for prima circa 1995-2002 and I got to see a lot of neat behind the scenes things when it came to the story arcs.

Velious to me was getting to see the history come to life.

So I enjoyed all those zone.

I HATE, and I mean HATE PoSky. Im not sure if this is because of the COUNTLESS hours and raids when I was on my mage getting the Crown of Elemental Mastery. Or just all the annoying raids!

Favorite: Crushbone. I used to go back there after almost every level on my bard on live just to mess around, help groups that seemed to be struggling with some quick downtime regen, hand some things off to new players, derail trains, etc. Good times.

Least favorite: Odus. The entire continent. All of it.

I actually loved Odus, specifically The Warrens and Stonebrunt Mountains. I just loved the idea of the kobolds vs the kejek, the wild roaming pandas, Tigers and gorillas, and the cool bamboo splint and cold iron armor that dropped from the highland kobolds. There was even a neat blue-tinted variant of the mail bamboo armor.

The idea that it was essentially a ghost town simply added to the mystique of it. I became sort of a mountain hermit, and would love to take my friends there and introduce them to all of the cool stuff the zone had to offer-- including the Wakizashi of the Frozen skies, a 1hs that procced an 81dmg DD.

I have good memories of the mad dash through the Warrens to the Stonebrunt zone line, pulse pounding from the adrenaline. It's a shame we may not see that any time soon, as it was implemented well into Velious.

Pras. Gfay true and most glorious trade hub.

Favorite: Velks. Easy. I just loved the layout and look of the place. Not to mention all the traps and slippery ledges - it really made me feel a sense of danger. It was DnD brought to life for me and I couldn't get enough. Just the idea that I was evading all of these risks to meet the big baddie at the end was great. (Unrest a close second, so many great memories).

Least: Dagnors. Dear Prexus under the mighty seas I would do anything to banish that zone to the depths. If I didn't enjoy KK and Unrest so much I'd never even look in its direction. The amount of secondary deaths sustained in that barren hell hole trying to recover from a basement train were entirely too high. Shit mobs. Shit xp. Shit aesthetic/geometry (fuck those hills). Shit everything. Hatehatehate.

Im bringing back SolB

SolB was not my favorite zone back in classic, Lguk was for sure. First Lguk was a great zone becuse pre kunark it was basically a regular city. If you could get down there at like level 10 you could p much roll around in there without invis, everything was down before it even had a chance to agro anything else it was so crowded.

This was too cool to me, considering just a few stories above were a bunch of diaper wearing trolls with clubs smashing froglocks having their minds blown by on occasional mesh drop. If they only knew the magical majesty that was happening below their feet.

Ok, but why SolB?

SolB on p99 is great. You can literately do everything in that zone. You can camp valuable items at the royals at level 30. You can level up to 45 there, and move into the bugs room with a group, camping MORE valuable enough items to make it exciting. level up to 50.. to 50+ solo or group all the way to 60, at yet more great treasure filled caves. Delve deep enough and you can see spooky adventurers turned to stone from the infamous stone spider! Find the imps and the magical EFREETI! a mob that should wow anyone, no matter how seasoned they are in EQ. I stare deep into his texture maps every time I kill him.

I mean come on, go deeper in and there is a CASTLE! filled with GIANTS.. and they have magical ITEMS & TREASURES! THERE IS EVEN A KINGS THRONE! with a WORTHY KING! LONG LIVE KING TRANIX!

Finish that up, with it even has RAIDS! Dragons, two of em! one you can group, one you learned how to raid on!

seriously, solB has it all.. what other zone can you start leveling in at 30 and go all the way to end game raiding, without leaving it once!

Honestly, I could have not agreed with you more. This has to be one of my most favorite zones in Everquest. Solb for life.

Original: Erud's Crossing. Kerrans, willowisps, sharks, sunken ships, and the best place for a beach party in Norrath!
Kunark: Charasis. Very cool dungeon design, great loot, tons of undead to charm, tied into Kunark lore, and guarded by weird scorpion people.
Velious: Plane of Mischief, obviously. Tower of Frozen Shadow is a very close second.

Least Favorite

Original: West Karana. So much space with almost nothing in it.
Kunark: Mines of Nurga. Tons of casters/mage mobs, no good loot, no cool quests, takes forever to run around.
Velious: Dragon Necropolis. It's kind of like the mines in Chardok, long underground hallways with not much going on. PD's Shade is cool though.
