So I made a necromancer to level up and cover farming. I was wondering what melee to play, War, Bard, or Monk?

do you want to suck shit at tanking in groups and only be good level 50+?
do you want carpal tunnel?
do you want to pull constantly?

Warriors take damage better than sk and paladin and have better dps. Agro usually sucks for warriors but gets better with higher lvls. Monks are best melee all around with good gear. They can take damage (innate high ac and extra defensive skills), dps, and have the ability to single pull, which allows you to solo if you decide to (mend, Bind wound 70%hp). Never played a bard to 60 so dono

Monk, but before you do, get him a Wu's Quivering Staff (for level 20+) 100p
2 Platinum Fire Wedding Rings, 500p or so.
For starter weps grab a Trance stick and Cane of Harmony, 250-300p together.
In the end these few things will make leveling a monk go from an annoying experience, to a rather decent one.

War: Wars are the kind of eq'er that seem to be born for the class, nothign else fits but war. They are dedicated and take a lot of work to gear properly and only get better with age. If you dont know how to play one and want to take it all the way, youll for seemingly ever, off tank in a guild until you really match up to the thousands of hours raiding the war's guilds on p99 use as main tanks
Monk: expensive to gear, but very multi purpose. If you like sneaking around and having utility, being able to tank when theres nothing better avail, pull when there is, FD to get around/not wipe your group.. its kind of like the enchanter of melee's Ive personally found. Another class that only gets better with age, but can get away with worse gear than a warrior can. (personly my fave of the 3 listed, though a fully geared war is orgasmic looking and has lightsabers but thats like way too much work)
Bard: this class sucks its for freeks and wierdos. its like the worst.. its the most unique class in EQ for sure, and the most bad ass class to make in a video game ( i mean seriously who makes a video game with a bard in it? imagine playing fuckn gears of war or Battlefield and then this prancy little bard comes noodling up, toot toot tootaling on his little flute whistle.. its fuckn ridiculous. But also magical and awesome that EQ put it in their game) anyway, seriously its a weird class, it totally doesnt suck but in the hands of a medicore player, it is an EXTREMELY medicore class.. in the hands of a good player is a really interesting class that they'll eventually quit playing cus if they are really good they'll just pick another more powerful class to be good at.. that leaves them to be in the hands of people like Zander, really powerful good at EQ class that someone passionately loves to play. I have lots of respect for the 3rd, a little less for the 2nd and not much for the 1st listed.
I dont know
TL:DR
War - the wizard of tanking
Monk - the Enc of tanking
Bard - the RP of Enc.

you're saying there's more bards than monks on the server? prove that and I'll eat my hat.

If the game had blood and guts and limbs flying off monsters and players, then yep, with the right tint, you would see plenty of ~rouge~...

Aww shucks man. I wouldn't say I'm amazing at bards in EQ; I just spent 3 years of my life playing EQ and posting a lot on the forums to be a bit more well known. According to my friend Tony Robbins, "Repetition is the mother of skill." If you do anything for 3 years, you'll probably be at least okay at what you do.
You should see some of the bards in Rampage, Forsaken, and Zeelot era TMO; those guys are beasts.
Although my personal favorite bard on this server is Deajay. I would say he has a much greater knowledge of the game and mechanics than most bards I know.

Rogue is pretty satisfying to play with the big numbers and generally low responsibility role... but if you're like me, you will get tired of being so inept outside of the DPS role. Hide/sneak and picking locks can be fun, don't get me wrong. I just dislike not being able to duo with a healer effectively like the other melee classes and having no soloing ability unless it's low enough to land instill doubt.

No soloing ability?
That's cute.

I would think that Monk would notice benefits of being a twink much more than a bard.

Yea, you can wear virtualy nothing but player crafted resist gear and be a fine bard all the way to 60.. right? I mean obviously if you were decked out it would be a WHOLE different experiance.
I imagine a bard with 100 HP item in every slot, could basically ruin any zone in EQ and farm all the things.. right? Seems like it would be something you could just stand there singing aoe songs to camp most 5k+ items while you watch HBO heh.

Time for some rogue lovin... I like to think of rogues as being battlefield generals. You have the ability to go just about anywhere. So it should be incumbent on you to take advantage of that and provide scouting/direction for the raid force. Sure I can hang back and do nothing but DPS, but why limit myself when I can basically walk up to many dragons undetected and run the show.
Don't forget that rogues are excellent pullers and can work very well with FD classes to get the mob in to camp.

Monk and Bard could both probably level to 50 naked, lets be real...With that said, there are SEVERAL reason why maining a monk is a better idea than maining a bard.
1) its easier getting a group as a monk...its not really even up for debate. Melee DPS is always in demand. Lots of hybrid hate on the server, and Bard is not a min/max group class where Monk is. Advantage monk.
2) Epic! If this is your first character, you want an Epic. Monk epic is almost completely solo-able, you might need a group for a couple of the fights at the end, but they are mainly triggered events and its generally a very easy/satisfying epic to complete. Bard epic is full of bottle necks, rare drops, raid mobs, its literally one of the hardest to do. Advantage Monk.
3) Monk twink items are super expensive, and you don't really need them - Cloak of Flames, Tranquil Staff, Tranix Crown, Fungi, Ect - But the bard items are less expensive and more fun. Eye of Zomm helm, Illusion Masks, Class Armor clickies, BoH, Lute of the Howler....i just generally feel like Bards get more utility items that are fun "twink" items that dont cost 75k a pop. I have a really nice geared Bard that I twinked with probably 30k - a much more reasonable number to get for twink gear.
46+ your going to be getting planar/raid/velious no drop gear anyways, so sub 50 is all we are really talking about,
I have 100% grouped from lvl 1-50 on my bard, and twinking him is so much more fun than twinking a monk fun.
