To piggyback off the overpriced bad gear, figured I'd make a bang for your buck thread.
I would say SoS is up there. Thanks Chardok AoE groups! To get an item that is used until you do high end raiding for 2k is a pretty good damn deal. Wu's Quivering staff at 100-150pp is also a good buy.

Bard Singing Steel helm - 500pp, Same effect as 40k holgresh beads
Monk PeaceBringer is a hell of a value for 3k
AC/HP rings for 200pp can not be beat by anything!!!

I can't think of anything more effective bang for buck than the common/cheap kunark weapons that essentially change the game for a newbie melee class:
Wu's Quivering Staff
Silver Swiftblade
Jarsath Trident
Fist of Zek
Baton of Faith
Deathbringer's Rod
Swarmcaller
I'm sure there are others that I'm missing, but my point is that these items which sell for <200 plat are often 90% as good (in performance) as items that sell for 5k or more.

Fist of Zek + Jarsath trident was my first set of "twink" weapons on my warrior. Game changer definitely and cheap as hell.

Some of the Kunark class armor clickies are an excellent value.
Elder Spiritist's Vambraces (free DoT)
Deepwater Helm (free 110-pt heal)
Elder Spiritist's Boots (Levitate with no batwings or peggy cloak)
Donal's Bracer (free Pacify)
Singing Steel Gauntlets (cheap worn EB)

Hangman's noose - Free, just loot one of the many corpses, bards leave behind. They have 100% always drop rate.

Atone staff from Chardok is one of the most undervalued items on the server.
Having clicky memblur as a cleric is glorious. I remember getting Memory on my enchanter box on Mac server, it changes how you play a class being able to spam for no mana to make mobs forget you or reset their hate.

Fungi Tunic (the regen completely changes the solo capability and survivability/efficiency of many classes)
Brell's Keg Popper + Tola robe (int caster melee combo, works well into early 20s)
Gatorscale Sleeves (150p for +int and +hp on a slot with crappy options until planar/velious armor quest gear? yes please)
Golden Efreeti Boots (again, you won't find an upgrade for these until very late game)
Jboots
Hand Made Backpacks
Leatherfoot Raider Cap (get out of jail free card, only costs 90p to recharge)
Crystalline Short Sword (one of the cheapest 1 handers for main or offhand that has a 1.0 ratio)
Guardian Mace (even better than CSS for slightly cheaper, but bard/pally only)
Noctivagant Blade + Atramentous shield (ultimate twink-on-a-budget combo for newbie SKs)
Poison Wind Censor (great ratio, the negative proc that makes it cheap doesn't start until lvl 50)
Rogues and Monks have a ton of weapons that are rogue/monk only with amazing ratios that go for incredibly cheap because they are dropped in areas where people commonly level or are rogue/monk only. Trak tooth, wu's staff, peacebringer .etc

Sword of Skyfire is pretty awesome, around 150pp for a .5 ratio (fast) weapon that a few melee can use.
Great sub-20.
Also: Any of the weapons like Sarnak Warhammer (30/40) for new pet classes.

Green Silken Drape. Goes for 5-10pp in EC most nights.
Some nights people give the ugly ass thing away.

pretty solid Pally item for under 1k. Haven't had the chance to use it with level of proc but I imagine it would be nice for tanking.

Combo with Donal's Bracer to fix some bad aggro situations quickly.

Among the many other suggestions (fungi, hp rings) crown of the froglok kings deserves an honorable mention. Staff of battle, snare whip, cobalt gaunts as well.
Also rogue and shaman epics :p and a lot of the non-bp/legs kunark items for hybrids since they sell for vendor value.

Lost Staff of the Scorned.
Melee like a monk for your first 10 levels or so as a wizard, then save it for level 39 for mana/gem free group port to a zone off EC.
Seems good value for 20pp.
I also believe banded armour represents good value.

Ports don't use gems aside from Sky and Hate.

spell gems. Not items.
It's good not having to waste a spell gem on a port.

Shralok Pack. Easy to farm yourself up a bunch of them too. Staff of Battle is pretty cool too.

The fact that a Jade Mace is only an average of 1500 is absolutely baffling.
Runed Bone Fork is an amazing purchase for around 200-300p. And I like Jaded Platinum Rings just as much as Fire Opals on some classes.

Iksar Scaled Gloves. They're decent at low levels, and you can often get them free

Even tho it's price is rising, CoS is a must have item for SK/necro. For other classes a set of 4 ring of shadows goes a long way

It's without question the Platinum Fire Wedding Ring at +55hp, just as many others have said. At 250pp each, it can increase the survivability of any player greatly. Even at lvl 60 people still wear these.
2 of the rings on a newbie increases survivability exponentially.

Now compare those to the Velious Fire Wedding Ring (6ac65hp) IIRC... Guessing those are selling for something silly right now :P

The rings' prices reflect their fixed material costs. If you want maximum effect for minimal cost, the 4/45 gold-quality rings cost only a fraction of what the 5/55 rings sell for.
Most anything restricted to Paladin or Ranger class tends to be cheap due to the rarity of those classes.
Danth
Would say Sword of Skyfire, stupid cheap and common for it's ratio.
With Verious about, might be due to change.
