Ok, so I am new here so please be gentle!

Why is there such a harsh anti-boxing ideology?

I have played normally and I have boxed over the years. I can do either, but boxing tends to add fun to the games that I get bored with...

I am not an obnoxious boxer, I drop my toons if theres someone wanting in the group, I buff people and am generally a helpful person.

I was a bit taken back when I came here to find out why I was restricted to one IP to find such a harsh anti-boxing stance.

Ask yourself. What is the benefit of boxing? How does that play style affect others in a negative way?

Yes, you might be able to have fun playing a Healer, tank and dps or whatever so you can just take stuff by yourself without having to interact with others, but how do you think others would feel if one person is taking a camp that normally more than 2 people would do and could get xp, gear and more from?

Do you really need to ask that question? (I am not meaning to be sarcastic)

If you really want to box, there are a lot of options out there. And, they aren't bad options.

because if we allowed boxing the neckbeards would take over and the server would die. Look at Ragefire for a perfect example of why boxing sucks the life out of a server. Plus this is a free server, so if it was allowed you would HAVE to box or be at a huge disadvantage.

I boxed on eqlive. And you would come across people who basically felt you were evil, ruining the game because you boxed. Generally, many think EQ is supposed to be more of a fancy social chat program, and boxing destroys the social aspects. And boxers are responsible for ruining EQ.

P99 is where all those people ended up.

The fact there aren't as many boxers on P99 is one of the many reasons I am here!

The simplest answer is that no one would bother to play a Druid or Wizard seriously, as even casual guilds would PL what they needed and store them for utility reasons.

I've boxed in the past and run into peeps who thought me the devil for it too. Never really understood that. That said, I fully understand the rule as implemented here and it doesn't bother me. If I want to box I'll just make my own server ^^ or play on another one. I like peeps though ^^

Like I said at the start. I am new to the server and its culture.

Individual players can still be a-holes. Boxing does not make you inherently evil.

I have always dropped whoever I've needed to to make room for players even on live. It's much more pleasurable to group with real people. I also understand that lots have abused it and there is obviously a negative attitude about it.

Most people who see me on live look on in amazement and are sincerely curious.

As it stands I am having a lot of fun here. I would like to see some more low level players willing to group vs buffed by a high level running around killing everything.

I have met some really nice players and some not so nice. Very nostalgic of eq back in the day. I am almost surprised how similar it is.

Part of the reason to play the game for me is interacting with like-minded players. I feel boxing can further remove players from the general population. I want to play with someone and enjoy their company. In my experience, if I am playing with someone who is boxing, a lot of times they are busy switching between monitors and doing a bunch of things at one time it doesn't leave a lot of time to "hang out" so to speak.

Also, I think boxing would take away some of the things that make EverQuest fun, to me. I mean here things like maybe you would box to buff and PL yourself, box to port yourself, and box to transfer gear/plat. I am not really pro PL, but I enjoy leveling a character on my own or with a group of players. Though travel can take a long ass time if you don't have somebody around who can port you, I think the wait of needing to spend so long traveling is rewarding in a way.

For the record, I agree with you Qenni. I don't think boxing is the 'end all' of EQ. Like you said, most folks would probably use it for a port or a corpse summon or a rez, or buffs. Which I would be fine with.

I think the reason it has no place on Project1999, is because the server is already congested as it is. If this were a low-pop server, (which one day, who knows? It may very well be) then boxing would be allowed. That is one thing that PEQ is doing right -- there's too much content and not enough players, and they allow boxing. Seems like a pretty positive environment on that server.

Because I LOVE playing with 5 other players in a functional (sometimes, not to) group. The banter, mistakes & experiences. Some great times are had & it's why I play/ed EQ.

We tried Ragefire & it was painful.... Here we are.

Few years ago I have played on the EQMac server and we had a cool static group with me and two others. It was great fun until we reached level 20 and they both started boxing. After that, there were so busy switching characters, they had no time to talk and grouping with them became boring.

I was helped out by many boxers over the course of eqLive, even had one drag both his toons away from doing productive work just to babysit me in Najena; I mean literally sit there outside her door waiting to see if my first solo attempt on her would fail miserably. Most of my boxer experiences were tag teaming remote locales and using the pocket druid healer to negate downtime post combat. though the occasional extreme overpower burn shield was used. I never viewed those who used it as unfair advantage, was only ever jealous I didn't have the ability to instantly travel to other continents and be blessed with never ending speed boosts and 0 downtime. Never ran across any boxers camping my rare spawn quest npcs or anything. And I think mostly my acceptance of boxers lies in the fact they already got a toon to 50+, they already spent their time in the trenches, why not let them try out some new classes without returning to the pain of day one issues. Classic EQs biggest issue imo, were guilds gearing and power-leveling complete newbs polluting higher level pug groups and raids with kids that don't even know how to play their role.

I boxed once. Got to level 35, everything was so easy. Got utterly bored and quit eq. Easy is not eq. If youre using the word easy and eq without not, you are paying this game wrong.

It reminds me of gta San Andreas. Was loving the game, then decided to use cheat codes. Got everything I wanted, quit the game in a matter of hours. Bored. Good things come to those who DON'T BOX.

Part of the appeal to p1999 is that is hard. Some stuff you will never be able to do alone. The people are what we mostly come here for. the server population and active guilds should make boxing unnecessary for someone who is motivated. besides it would get abused more than a red headed step child.

The people who most vehemently hate boxing are the people who would not get groups because people are no longer forced to group with them to get things done. A lot of groups come out of gritting your teeth and dealing with someone you have no interest in grouping with.

I loved boxing on live and Mac server, but both of those allowed for boxing to work well. It wouldn't work well here.

Boxing on a server with very limited content, no instancing, and free unlimited accounts is the problem.

1 boxer being able to hold down 4-5 high value camps in 4-5 different zones ends up being a problem on a server with just 3 expansions.

I box because EQ is not a chat room.

I play on takp, and have been using my experiences to improve mechanics and the play experience. Something p99 is missing out on, since I cannot box, and I don't have patience for grouping.

There are lots of places for boxers to go play EQ the way they want. Why do you need to box here? I like groups and I have no interest in being forced into playing multiple characters at once to compete.
