I heard you can crit with throwing, but is it worth it? Isnt a crit with throwing just the same as a regular hit with bow and arrow?

Throwing boulders aside - talking about simple vendor arrows / throwing items .. or forged javelins or something, can do that.

backstab

on cd, and you are rooted, there is no other possible option other than to hit with ranged. If you backstab, you get death touched, but if you range attack its ok. then what

I used to play a human rogue back in the day and the only time I used throw was if I was in a group and I had to pull...

Always archery for range. You can pull mobs from the water in KC among other places.

Otherwise get javelins.

You can assassinate with throwing at higher levels when you crit :P

easier to maintain distance for sneak pulls with archery.

Although I remember being too lazy to fletch on live and just used myrlokar summed daggers.

You can fletch up some low cost 150 range arrows, think they go trivial at 60ish? That's what I used to do, just a few stacks... not like rogues are "day to day" pulling.

neither are viable for anything but pulling

throwing is more convenient because you can summon daggers from mrylokar's bracer, but they have a short range (55)
archery requires arrows, but you have this awesome 150 range bow with great stats: http://wiki.project1999.com/Adarra%27s_Bow_of_the_Unseen

Yeah, ranged items are just stat sticks for a rogue. The DPS from ranged attacks will be negligible at best. It boils down to which items you can reuse and which are lost permanently once they are fired.

So bows win. They're both stat sticks and reusable ranged items.

....you are probably referring to assassinations. For range use a forged spear or you can never pull drakes on island 7 when your monk team eat it from an ice comet. For assassinations use daggers. Mob needs to be level 51 or below i think (not too sure on level) to be able to assassinate and of course you need to be 60.

i am not sure about P1999 but I remember on live being able to assassinate the odd frog in sebilis either by backstabbing or pulling from behind with a throwing dagger (rare).

Needed to be L46 or below for an assassinate didn't it? Sad really, but kind of understandable.

Doesn't have to be from behind.
West wing mobs in HS can be assassinated meaning it is higher than 46. I'm going to stick with my level 51 estimation.
Happens more often on throwing knives than daggers.
I believe it has to be a piercing weapon.

Soloing my way to 50 I have always used archery, makes sneak pulling much easier

Only mobs you can assassinate in HS would be the blobs - and it's kinda tough to know which way they are facing...

Should work with any throwing weapon in the rear arc, on non-undead humanoids (with some odd exceptions), and same level cap as melee assassinations.

Mob has to be 45 or under for assassinate from what I can tell. Hunter/Forager are 45 and the cycle can be done quick with throwing assassinations.

That's right, it's humanoid only and blobs are humanoid.

Once upon a time long long ago in the year 2000 I saved a group from a sarnak train with a lucky throwing crit on a fleeing mob. Insignificant yes, but it is one of the most clear memories I have of playing in that era. Live your life.
