Thank you google ^-^

Definitions of donation on the Web:

* contribution: a voluntary gift (as of money or service or ideas) made to some worthwhile cause
* contribution: act of giving in common with others for a common purpose especially to a charity

* A donation is a gift given by physical or legal persons, typically for charitable purposes and/or to benefit a cause. ...

* A Donation, when referred to in canon law in the Roman Catholic Church, is defined as the gratuitous transfer to another of some right or thing. ...

* donate - give to a charity or good cause; "I donated blood to the Red Cross for the victims of the earthquake"; "donate money to the orphanage"; "She donates to her favorite charity every month"

* Donatory - A Donatário, a Portuguese word roughly meaning 'endowed' sometimes anglicized as Donatary, was a private person (often a nobleman) who was bestowed by the Crown with a considerable piece of land, called a donátaria, which was handed over at his discretion, exempt from normal colonial ...

* donate - To make a donation; to give away something of value to support or contribute towards a cause or for the benefit of another

* A permanent gift to the archives from an individual or organization.

* Land that is donated outright to a land trust or agency for conservation purposes.

* A gift or disposition of property, money, or a service for which no payment, or an inadequate payment is received.

* can be items or financial funds, which a person gives without reward and on the basis of an agreement to a public benefit organisation achieve the purposes specified in the Articles of Association of the organisation, without reciprocal duty to perform activities that are to be consideration ...

* Donations of land or interests in land (easement) can be made by a landowner to the public agency or private nonprofit organization. This may allow the donor to claim federal and state income tax advantages, remove donated value from capital gains, and reduce potential estate taxes. ...

* Transfer of equipment, money, goods, services, or property with or without specifications as to its use. Sometimes a donation is used to designate contributions that are made with more specific intent than is usually the case with a gift, but the two terms are often used interchangeably.

* a gift or bequest of artefacts, specimens or works of art and/or funds in support of the museum's mission.

You know... in the many years that I've played a druid, I never did this (porting for $). Not once. I mean, maybe that's why I was always poor. I just saw this as an affront to my dignity. I think the only time I ever accepted a donation is when someone forced it on me via /split. If I'm too busy to port, then I'm too busy... but if I'm sitting around doing nothing and someone asks for help - no big deal. Same with SoW or res.

I was wondering about this today, it obviously depends on the portee's ability to pay but what is considered a reasonable donation for porting? I've only had one port so far for a corpse run so couldn't donate, but I'd give (as a rough rule of thumb) maybe 1pp per level.

Too much? Not enough? If I were a druid, I'd be narked if a level 50 handed over 5pp as a donation, I'd tell them to keep it since they were so hard up :-)

I have had people above level 40 ask me to pick them up in zones and port them elsewhere and then been tipped 15 plat or less.

I never get angry or say anything but inside I am thinking "I just left my soloing spot in lguk to pick this dude up and port him and he gave me 15 plat."

Announcing the amount of the plat you are willing to pay will definitely speed things up. If you are ever donating 50pp+ I will almost always drop what I am doing and port unless I am grouped or have a named camp.

I need to save up for a Manastone somehow.

As a side note I could say the same thing about when I ask for resses. Say you are donating you rarely get a response saying you are paying 100pp and you will drag to them gets responses fast. I understand and don't have a problem with this.

Druids who charge mandatory fees for ports are shit. Druids who help all Norrathians travel freely are beacons of American light in this dark Muslim world.

Grounding a noob to fucking Toxxulia because he doesn't have 70pp for your time is a job for someone much browner than the good citizens of the Heartland of America.

I do not use the word "donations" but i do expect a tip if you are a stranger. Typicaly people pay 20-50p. When people ask what i charge i always say "whatever you think is fair" or "people normaly pay 1p per level" Some people are cheap and pay 3p a few have stiffed me and payed nothing, like when i left my camp to pick a guy up in toxx and he said thanks and left. I never every give people guff for being cheap or stiffing me but i will probably will be busy next time they ask. If its a CR its very clear my time is being donated, unless i am in the middle of something i do not mind helping.

When people advertise the price they want to pay its a much more attractive to a porter. A, we know if it will be worth our time to stop what we are doing make your life easier, but more importantly we know you are ready to go! Nothing is worse then waiting at the rings for 10 min to port a stranger for 5p.

I remember before luclin came out, I was playing a wizard and was meding outside KC when some guy came out spamming for a druid to port him. I told him I was a wizard but he said he wasnt looking for a group, he was looking for a port. O-o I was trying to offer him a free port but I think he didnt realize the wizards can port too, not just druids. He ran off looking for a druid... I just shrugged and continued soloing. Later on he was spamming LF a rez... O_O

Heh, i get annoyed when people try and donate for clarity.

I don't want your 3pp...

what annoys me even worse is the people who come up and just put money in a trade window and click trade... as if i'm supposed to instantly recognise that this person wants clarity or something.

When i go Non-roleplay, which is really the best way to advertise for ports

I get this twice a day.

Them "can you please sow, skin, regen and ds me?"
Me "I dont see you"
Them "you have tracking come find me"
Me "/roleplay"

When clerics stop expecting to be paid for res, I'll stop asking to be paid.

If I'm not doing anything, I will run and rez people wherever (I made the mistake of running to HHK to rez one guildie corpse yesterday and ended up doing 7 free rezzes). But if I'm in an exp group at Lord in Lguk and someone is asking for a rez at live side zone in, I expect to be compensated for my time.

I feel like druids should be the same way, if you're sitting in EC drooling on your keyboard, why not give someone a ride for free? On the other hand, if you're in the middle of a quad kite in OOT, maybe some payment is in order.

Imo, the tipping hierarchy…

90% rez > port > clarity

I toss out sows and buffs if I have mana and I’m not afk, or if someone asks me when I’m running by. As far as ports go, I’m a little more lenient on the tip/donation factor when I’m advertising. If someone is contacting me to get a port though, I expect a fair amount (1 pp per level generally). It’s infuriating when someone asks you to come pick them up, drop them off, sow, lev, and then they toss me a retarded cleric buff or hand me copper and then take off. If someone is up front with me about their limited funds, I’m more inclined to port them.

So, for all the port seekers out there, find a guild druid, or ask me for a sow, but don't be standing there in 70k worth of twink gear and hand me 5pp after I just hustled to get your ass from point a to b to c.

This is why I have a hotkey that pretty much says /auc WTS ports to all druid rings. When I advertising that, I am doing it for one reason -->> To make as much plat as possible so I can afford all the overpriced items I need but can't get in on.

After a while you get used to which people (and guilds) are cheap. There's one guild in particular that either has a LOT of people, or they are always dying. So the CR ports are neverending. Usually I'll just do a check and see which of their druids or wizzies are on and direct them to those people within their guild just sitting around in EC.

Smyd

Anyway, pretty sure people use the word donation instead of sell because they aren't selling the port at a fixed price.

I hate it when they do that. I'm no mooch, but porting a warrior to toxx because they don't have the amount of pp you want is worse than rude.

I've never expected nor have I accepted tip for ressing in my 4 years playing cleric.

Porting requires dropping group, leaving camp, zoning. Time = plat.
Ressing is just a damn spell cast.
