A rogue who took a bone razor from his guild bank "gave his account to a friend" a week later because RL stuff was suddenly so overwhelming he'd never be able to log in again. that "friend" is now selling the account (including bone razor), and the rogue is making the account of "his friend" look super attractive to buyers by being mad that a monk received a shield of rainbow hues for pulling purposes?

lol.

I love the idea that giving an account away somehow absolves you of any wrong doing.

It's not that big of a deal, it's a bone razor, woopty doo.. just a very shady way to go out. You didnt have to give your account away (if you even did), could have just went afk and took care of your business and left the character guilded and idle with only you having access. No one would've been upset, we all would've wished you well and bid you good luck on RL.

Lesson learned hopefully..

but probably not.

Don't have the time I want to devote to EQ. If I cannot play as much as I used to, it's not worth playing to me. So, yeah. Don't see how it's shady - but, I guess if you're really that greedy of a guild as a whole, then I guess that makes me shady!

I for one will miss you ridiculous, you were an excellent rogue that I would have liked to continue raiding with. The bone razor is a non-issue in comparison to losing a quality player, considering it didn't have to go down this way. IB firmly believes RL comes first, and people that need to take time to get that in order is fine...if you can't pay the bills you can't play.

What upsets us is selling off accounts with no mention at all of why, no trying to work things out, and even using a new name to try and hide this fact. This seems especially brutal in your case where the first demi-god loot you got you decided to cash out.

Since I like you, I hope you get whatever you are hoping for in this deal and best of luck to you.

If you really "Wouldn't call that hardly any gear" then why are 4/5 of your selling points all items obtained through the guild? Lets face it, you had nothing of any real value coming in. Hell my monk has full BiS, and that took all of 2 days to get.

If any unworthy monk deserves a SoRH, my rogue should be allowed to keep the BR.

Considering the time I put in raiding, the BR I figured was mine.

Your sense of self-entitlement is truly astonishing. Following this line of thinking; if one of your friends won the lotto, would u steal from him? "If an unworthy friend deserves to win the lotto, I should be allowed to keep the money. Considering the time I put in being a friend, the money I figured was mine." This logic doesnt make any sense in any situation you apply it to. Despite the fact you were in the guild a max of 4 weeks; Im sure you think you should have gotten more loot.

Gave access to a friend and it's outa my hands.Don't know what else you guys want from me.

Maybe the common courtesy to admit what youre doing. but instead you displace all responsibility onto your "friend", and try to convince us (and yourself for the matter) that youre the victim here. You dont have the time to play anymore. You gave the account to a friend. its all out of your hands. this whole thing stinks so much of bullshit its hard to imagine you even tried to defend it.

you have about 3 kills left on lvl 25+ mobs, a lot of running/porting between cities for the regional alcohol you need and some dialogue. its not much, it just boils down to rogues cannot solo in classic.

K, yeah - I realize that. I'm pretty twinked but have troubles with DBs unless i'm @ 50% health or higher, and only non-casters.

Well, maybe next time you're on, and you aren't busy I can pay some druid to port us around and get the stuff i can't solo done?

Ridiculous, it is extremely common knowledge that dragon / god loot is guild property to be passed out to members that would best help the guild -- and when it was no longer helping the guild, it was to be returned. IB is and has always been about bettering itself, and not just any member who wants one...this has been enstilled to apps, and is posted in the required guild motd on the forums

Whenever you have gained enough trust, played and been highly active, and shows you know what you are doing...then you are granted these pieces to further help the guild.

But, regardless, you still decide that its just worth it to say fuck you to the guys you've played with for a month straight, give your account away to a friend, and even after being called out for being a dick, refuse to log on your account to give the bonerazer away (or tell your friend to)....and using the guild as a way to fund your friends character.

It is a dick move, and even though I respected you and enjoyed playing with you while you were in the guild, it has definately gone to shit now.

Raid gear is attained by players from the guild through stable attendance. Members have to build up a pool of attendance before they can be awarded items. After this, in my mind, they are therefore indebted for a longer period of attendance to the guild. When served, the item becomes their personal property, those who may choose to return gear to the guild are all the better, but I think it should be strictly encouraged not forced.

To people who obtain items and quit very soon after their own gear saturation, who do not serve their attendance debt after the fact; that is stealing from the guild and its members in its own rite.

I've always looked at EQ disputes of this nature fairly pragmatically.

It's always on the guild, not the player. It sounds like a jackass theory - and it certainly doesn't absolve an individual player of blame - but really it's not much different than any company one might work for irl. People quit, for whatever reasons they might have, often having used resources that could have been used better on another employee, if only the company had known ahead of time.

Should a droppable item be handed back to a guild if someone peaces out? Sure - in utopia. I just think the smartest guilds are the ones who look at any droppable item, from the guild bank to fresh off a mob, as potentially gone as soon as it is awarded. It is, as another poster mentioned, a sweet bonus when someone is "fair" and hands an item back before quitting or selling their toon.

The good thing is, for the most part, the two upcoming expansions will solve this by making most raid loot nodrop. This way, when people sell their toons, at least we can all say handing the items back was in most cases impossible.

The good thing is, for the most part, the two upcoming expansions will solve this by making most raid loot nodrop. This way, when people sell their toons, at least we can all say handing the items back was in most cases impossible.

Last i checked theres a TON of kunark loot that is drop.

If your computer gives you a laptop and you quit the next day you can probably get away with keeping the laptop.. but the right and lawfull thing to do would be to give it back.

It shows the character of someone to not just give back a 20k item or whatever it is to the guild that got you it if you truly planned on quitting.

There no excuse or worldy quote that can absolve someone of being just straight up greedy.

I never said anything can absolve someone of being greedy. I clearly said that my point did not justify greedy behavior.

Let me rephrase it to make things clearer, using your example. If your work *gives* you a laptop, without any sort of contract (as they would irl) and you leave the company without returning it...it is just as much the company's fault as it is yours for being greedy.

In eq, we don't use contracts for guilds....it's a damn video game. So, I simply submit the statement that if a guild is not prepared for the recipient of any item to walk at any time for any reason (as is the individual liberty in eq) they shouldn't be awarding the item in the first place.

.

Its funny that this example came up. Two weeks ago my company got me a badass new laptop to replace my PC that died in my office. I can't stand the place anymore and am actively searching for a new job while all the while trying to figure out how I can get away with keeping the brand new laptop.

Any suggestions? I never had to sign anything, they just gave it to me one day.

I dunno man, you're in Texas right? That's like the Wild West of labor laws - I think they could get away with burying you in the desert if they can't take the cost of the laptop out of your final check.

Here in California, the state would say "that shit is YOURS bro - employer was teh stoopid for giving it to you without having you sign something".

If you keep it, watch out for the subpoena.

I doubt you could get away with this one. Just because they let you take it home doesn't mean it is yours. They bought it, they have the invoice, and its probably listed on their asset sheet.

Now when I was in college I had a laptop stolen that was being lent to me by the school. I filed a police report but the cops don't investigate those kinds of crimes. Once the report was filed they filed an insurance claim, sent me a new computer, and I didn't have to pay for anything. So...

..was going to say this..

"lose" it imo (left it on a bus?). Don't use it to do anything high profile (MAC addresses can be a bitch) 'till their insurance handles it, quit, get your new job, and "find" it. Even if they find out about it, it's already been replaced.. ..and you have plausible deniability. Kind of.

I wouldn't claim it as stolen, that would involve police. Lying to the police is always sketch. They don't like it very much.
