Just an encouraging and grateful shout out to Expediency, Abiadar and Amosia out in Toxxulia Forest. What a great way to begin EQ again. I've done live off and on for years. I loaded of shards of dalaya (not EQ technically...I know, but it sort of scratched the itch) and finally decided to try P99 again after a failed halfing druid two years ago.
Decided to go special snowflake of non min-maxing and make an erudite paladin of prexus.
And Expediency apears out of nowhere, buffs me, helps me get some starting bags and bam in less than hour i'm level three and happy. Along that ride I met Abiadar, each of us helping each other out of tight spots.
This is what EQ was all about. Helping others. Great community. So great, I decided to start handing out some of Expediency's gift money to other newbies who didn't get to talk to him. Sort of paying it forward. Makes for a good overall experience.
Checked Reddit a few days ago to find there are even some ppl joining who have never played EQ before and didn't want the much easier "Live" version. They wanted the original. And here it is- as near as we can get it. So wonderful. So thanks to those who make EQp99 great. I hope to be of similar help to others as well.
Edit: I should mention my pally's name is Rashimir. Need a friend, look me up.

Seconded. Not the red server part.

Welcome back!
To be fair live is much more difficult and complex than P99. Classic EQ is just a long grind with inconveniences added.
CR? Keep sow pots, coffins in bank and hire a Cleric or keep a a few EE in the bank as well. Difficult? No, inconvenient? Yes
There are more examples but that's the most commonly used one.
On live I have 6 hotbars filled with situational abilities on my warrior. I could easily hop onto a 60 war and tank just as well as anyone. But if a P99er hopped into my warrior they'd die almost instantly and I'm in top tier raid gear with the best augs available.
P99 is basically all a tank and spank while using 4-5 abilities or spells tops per fight. Crowd control however imo is more difficult in classic than it is on live.

well alot of your arguments are pretty stupid. notably the corpse run. my current corpse run is pretty fucking difficult being on the 3rd floor of CoM and me being currently naked wondering how ill get up there. sure if you just have to run from commonlands to ro or something its just inconvenient. the difficulty in EQ comes from understanding and learning your place in the world. yeah the move mechanics are more complicated in even WoW because it has more skills and is faster paced, but that doesnt make WoW harder.... pretty specious arguments you can only make when you ignore a huge part of everquests real challenge

So you're arguing, that because you died.. in a level 40~ zone in a precarious spot.. that classic EQ is more difficult than Live right now? Especially when he was mentioning that he has over 40 different abilities that each is used in a different situation. Whereas in Classic you'd pull a mob, generate hate for a few minutes while clerics just ch chain.
Classic difficulty comes from the inconvenient factors 100%. No easy means of travel, no AH, takes forever to level, xp penalty/CR, no maps etc...
Live difficulty comes from mechanics and player decisions on which abilities to use and when. You know, now that Endurance is actually a thing that's utilized more than just swinging a weapon or smashing that spacebar. Raids in classic are ridiculously simple compared to what's offered on Live.
Calling someone's argument "stupid" when he has extremely valid points, kind of just goes to show what IQ level you're operating at bub.

sure, but i can call having to work with endurance mechanics an "inconvenience" and having to press buttons for different disciiplines is just an inconvenience to me as well.... the argument applies to everything you say just as well, which is why im now claiming that you are both making stupid arguments. i never once claimed that p99 is in fact harder, im just saying that your arguments are dumb. having no maps is not an inconvenience, its a mechanic that you have to learn to work with. xp penalty is not an inconvenience, its a mechanic that factors into peoples choices. your whole argument is not valid because you're completely discrediting the other side as being "inconveniences" when they are actually mechanics that make the game challenging and require effort.. ignoring that aspect makes your argument lack any real insight.

Pretty easy man, hire a necro and summon corpse and have him 93 you while he's at it. Which I wrote down in my OP. It'll cost you 500p tops for that CR. Sorry that you died on third. I've died exactly once up there from being afk thanks to bad chili. Maybe if you learn the mobs pathing, general time to kill and respawn timers you wouldn't die up there. It's very simple on third/second.
Pro tip: Vertical distance isn't a factor when dragging corpses.
If a time sink is a challenge for you then great. I prefer having to have extensive mob knowledge and correct usage of dozens of abilities as a challenge rather than a time sink.

Xp penalty is an inconvenience, because you have to spend more time farming a level compared to another person. That doesn't make it more difficult, it makes it more time consuming. Not having maps is another inconvenience, instead of traveling from point a to b you either have to 1. know the zone like the back of your hand. 2. spam /loc 3. rely on sense heading. None of these things are going to make your game more difficult, but more time consuming.
Difficulty would be trying to take down CT with 10 people. Or pull an entire zone and try to tank the mobs without dying.
But i'm sorry, you must not know the difference between the two.

Thanks for the shout out! Nobody should have to venture through toxx without at least some bags. If you decide you want to get out of there in a few levels send me a tell and I will move you out and take you to gfay/freeport/qeynos and bind you there. You were wise to serve prexus

Welcome back OP! Ignore the naysayers ^^ I never understood why some people feel compelled to pop into others threads to contest their preferences. I agree there are plenty of challenges in EQ, especially for people with regular lives. Précis is the true Lord of Norrath. I've a retired Eru Pally on blue ^^
To ye naysayers, Simple does not necessarily mean something is easy. Drawing is a good example. You Just smear graphite on paper. Does that mean drawing portraits, still life or even manga is easy?

Right, simple doesn't always mean easy. In the case of classic EQ it does.
I was simply refuting his claim that live is easymode EQ.
