Hey you, newbie!

I know you've got questions. Maybe you think they are stupid questions. Maybe you thought about making a thread, but didn't want to get laughed off the forums, or just couldn't bring yourself to click that "new thread" button for such a small question. Maybe you tried asking a question before and everyone just told you to "read the fucking wiki"! This thread is for you!

Bad questions for this thread:
"what race should I pick" (pick what you like, or read one of the many, many threads on this subject)
"can someone rez me in upper guk plz" (this is better asked in-game)
"what guild should I join" (there's an entire forum (http://www.project1999.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=18) dedicated to helping you find a guild)

Good questions for this thread:
"is this quest worth it"
"where can I find _____"
"what does ____ mean"
"how do I ____"
"I don't get how this mechanic works"
.etc .etc .etc

Bad answers for this thread:
"read the fucking wiki!"

Good answers for this thread:
"That mechanic works like _______. You can read more about it on the wiki here: ____"

There is aguide for Barb Shamen thar says I should be able to kite baby mammoths, at lvl 10, but every time I try, I run out of mana long befoe the mob is dead and have to run to the guard.
Where can I take my Shaman for good xp at my current level? I keep getting trained in Blackburrow.

If I recall correctly a mammoth calf spawns in the level range of 10-14. They tend to hit harder than other mobs for their level. After a while I didn't bother hunting them unless they were blue. If you want to stay in the Everfrost area, I recommend setting up camp against the Southern Wall, on either side of the frozen river. I preferred to hang on the eastern side. There you will have all sorts of blues that path by. Be warned though, there is a lvl 50 dark assassin that paths between the tower at number 11 on the map on the link, and the ridge just to the west of it. You won't see him until it's too late, so stay nearer the wall when making your way to camp.

That spot should be good to level 14. You can then pickup your spells and head out on an adventure through Norrath!

What cleric race is best for rezzing in Upper Guk and should I put them in a guild? How do the mechanics of this work?? ;)

I have a ton of questions that certainly fit this category but now I've drawn a blank, save one:

Why manually eat? For instance, I've seen folks summon globes of water and bread, and eat 3 or 4 in a row. Why not leave them in your inventory? Thanks

Probably just clicking out of boredom or making room in their inv.

For a poor necro who doesn't have the funds to buy a CoS, what is the best way to solo charm?

Time a Gather Shadows cast at low health or some other spell? Or just don't do it until I have some more monies?

@jahdu: There is only one cleric race that can hide & sneak to get to places others can not easily. That's halfling.

But really, race is not that important. There are clickies and potions for lacking abilities. Better play what you feel comfortable with. From a stat point of view, i think dwarves or high elves are best (high elves have highest WIS but suffer from low strength, bad for a plate wearer).

@JboxCSU: People charm without invis clickies all the time. You can use Cancel Magic instead of invis, if your charm is in the topmost slot of the mob. Casting time and mana is less for that.

If you only need it for charming, you could camp the goblin gazhugi ring. You can do it at relatively low level (the sarnak courier is level 14 or so, surrounding mobs maybe 20), but it can take a really long time (that's why its really expensive if you want to buy it). It's an invis vs animals clicky. Since any invis breaks charm, this will do.

If the player has food that increases their stats, they will force feed themselves the regular food so that the stat food doesn't ever get consumed automatically, but instead stays in a slot preceding the "junk food" so the stat increases actually apply. Even if the player has only one piece of the +stat food, it will stay with them always, as long as they remember to force feed.

Example: Dark elf has a Frost Giant Steak (http://wiki.project1999.com/Frost_Giant_Steak) in their first bag, in the first slot. They fill up manually on Summoned: Black Bread (http://wiki.project1999.com/Summoned:_Black_Bread) which they keep deeper within the same bag. Subsequently, they always have +4str +1sta.

Nice! Wouldn't have thought of cancel magic. Thanks.

I thought stat food only works when it's in a regular item slot, not in a bag... am I wrong?

Ah you're right. Been like a year since I've logged on. Yeah, have to have +stat food/drink in regular item slot.

Eating food quickly means it'll take longer to consume regular food in your inventory, making it last longer. So if you're foraging a bunch of veggies and don't want to clog up your inventory, it's helpful to manually eat them to save on space and prolong the food you already have. Usually I'll do it when I'm down to 2-4 food/water in a stack and I need some inventory space.

Cancel Magic or Gather Shadows. /pet sit, walk far away, target pet, cast gather shadows, click a clicky that resets your Global Spell Cooldown, cast root on pet.

does ENC berserk line stack with SHM fury line?

I don't know offhand, but why would you ever use the Fury line? It has a constant mana drain.

Understood, thanks. So the process you describe above has the pet eating half the exp from the first mob?

I always invisioned breaking charm and somehow killing both.

No, that's just the process for breaking charm in general. You can do it while killing a mob in order to get full exp from both. I'll do an example scenario:

You're killing skeletons in Howling Stones basement. There's a decent amount of room to move around in. You have a ghost charmed (but not hasted) and you're killing a skeleton. The skeleton is rooted (always root your target when charm killing). The skeleton is getting to about 5-10% hp and you don't want your pet to eat any of the exp, so you back the pet off.

NOW you can /pet sit, back up, target pet, cast gather shadows-breaking charm. Quickly hit a clicky (I like to use Words of Darkness in my inventory) to reset your Global Spell Cooldown and cast root on your target (which should still be your previous pet, the ghost). You may take a hit or two trying to get root cast on the ghost if you weren't far enough away to cast root before it caught up to you, so it's helpful to keep rune up (diamondskin .etc). Now both the ghost and the skeleton should be rooted, and both should be low health. You can now dot both to death with something like Splurt or another dot that doesn't have a DD component, or nuke them to death with an undead nuke. Tada! Full exp on both.

Sesserdrix (http://wiki.project1999.com/Sesserdrix's_All_in_One_Necromancer_Strategy_Guide ) has a really detailed video guide on undead charming with a necromancer in Howling Stones basement actually, it's worth a watch if you want to see some high level necro gameplay. Watch in HD so you can read what spells he's casting.

Incorrect.

The stats apply as long as it it the first food item available in your inventory, bag or regular slot makes no difference.

The slots in your inventory are numbered

1 5
2 6
3 7
4 8

but inside a bag it's

1 2
3 4
5 6
7 8

So you can keep all your food in a bag in slot 8 if you want (although most players keep their food bag in inventory 1). If there is no other food in your inventory the first food item in that bag will be where any stats are applied from.

Got a strange questing about mana regeneration.

I'm lvl 21 with 110 meditate (+9 mana/tick according to wiki)

so 2+9 = 11/tick

mana regeneration is like that: 220 -> 219 -> 230 -> 229 -> 240

what is the -1 mana thing a second before the +11 is applied? looks "wrong"

Pyrion
11-03-2015, 10:00 AM
Yes i know what you mean. I think it's the client prediction going wrong. The server is not an original server, so it's mana regeneration formula is different (i think it's off 1 point). Every tick it gets synchronized again and you get the adjusted value.

Pyrocat
11-03-2015, 04:02 PM
What Pyrion said, same thing happens with HP regen. Client predicts what it "should be" and then a second later the server is like "nah, it's this" and the value changes.

Gonna need a source on that one.

Usually when my wife says "most people" or "everybody" she's referring to her two coworkers, odds are this chap means under 10ppl.

and my food/forage bags are always the last one, so mob junk doesn't get mixed in with the fruit and veg.

I keep my food in slot 1 bag. On all my toons except my druid, he has foraged food in all bags until I bank / hand / throw / make something of it. Don't ask me why...

Swish
11-04-2015, 03:50 AM
When you get weight reduction bags the "supplies" bag tends to migrate down to the last bag you're holding...i'd rather auto inventory the heavy stuff :p

As a workaround for foraging classes/races...have your supplies bag hotkeyed!

Seriously just take the race that you like most, the differences are not big. Halfling gets sneak which can be usefull for turn ins, but its not a big deal.
