4. Your Jacket Should Fit

This sounds like an obvious one but again a lot of guys break this rule. The shoulders of your suit should hug your own shoulders, there should be no gap between the collar of your shirt and the collar of your jacket, and ideally the jacket sleeves should be about a half-inch shorter than your shirt sleeves. Anything else and the jacket is too big for you. But be careful not to go too far the other way. Skinny fit suits are pretty popular at the moment and can look good, but you should always be able to button the jacket and still fit your hand comfortably between the breast and your shirt.

When I got out of college me and my friends were really disappointed that suits weren't dress code anymore for jobs that used to require them.

My friend in advertising was even told to lose the tie..

Feels bad man. Taking pride in your appearance and being well-put together gives you a discipline etc.

Name some jobs that actually require suits outside of very limited high-end Sales work (pharmaceutical sales even phased out), any corporation where you aren't middle management has phased them out. etc.

What irks me is we respect casual attire, hire guys at IBM with fully exposed sleeve tattoos in t-shirts and long beards and call it "Creative", etc.

But think about even wearing a tie and you're overdressed and try-hard, gain the ire of your co-workers and boss. A guy fresh out of college in advertising shouldn't be told to lose his tie, shouldn't he have to earn the right to loosen up?

A good suit is comfy as fuck. If I had a desk job I know what I'd be wearing. dress down a bit w/ simple details, brown shoes/belt etc and it's still appropriate in a casual environment.

Good post actually about this being more than just suits, education has been adjusted to the plebs too I think its fair to say.

I went to a real HS and real college and earned George W Bush level grades because the staff had no sympathy for an autodidact slacker with ADHD. These "straight A students" with 4.5 GPA's my parents worshiped don't impress me because I have seen the gross lack of quality control on teachers and professors. Ive compared grades and term papers semester after semester in 300 level courses and seen complete morons get handed 2 letter grades higher for arbitrary reasons.

I had a teacher junior year of HS mark me down a full letter grade on a major project because my oral game was weak and write "weak" on the grade sheet. As if a 16 year old can work on his oral presentation game? Or was even taught anything about it. Still cringe thinking about how pompous and hateful that teacher was. He admitted he kicked his dog that was happy to see him and told the class a big story about it with a smile on his face like it was some "relatable" thing. This is a private regional school too. Real toxic fake Christian should have been fired.
