Hail! Firstly id like to introduce myself, my name is brandon and i am 17 and live in North carolina. I never played EQ in its hay day and i had just recently started trying the freetrail of it as i cant find any mmos that interest me any more.

My mmo career got started when my father bought Dark ages of camelot in 01' and i got hooked, something about the graphics classes game style took me in :)
i played Daoc from 01' to 08' when mythic fucked it with Warhammer online.
I went on to Wow, got tired of its simplicity, and went on to eve online ( which is my favorite mmo ive played next to Daoc but i got tired of grinding my sec status back up and got tired of being head diplomat for Sylph alliance.

Today i was looking around for video on the orig. EQ and found some posting about this server! i was instantly like, Hells yeah i must try this :) I am looking forward to playing Eq with you all, although i may be a noob for a while :) i still wish to do end game.

I always love a Bard in my group... I don't care what anybody says.

And yes, Ranger is the ultra-rare class on this server. You should see the handouts that are offered to ranger mains.

Bard is broken in some ways and also people hate you becuase you can charm merchants and put them in bad places :p. This server is not without bugs so you just have to learn to live with them but there really arnt any HUGE bugs that stops you from playing and this is as classic as it gets too. You can go try EQ live if you want to waste your money on like 1 hour of fun in the tutorial (escape to norrath) thats the only part thats fun now, the game on live is pretty ruined from most people's opinion :p.

since no one is giving you a real answer on why bards are broken, i will tell you.

There are many minor issues that aren't worth going over.

The main, game breaking issue for bard is we do not know when we fizzle. All bard songs take 3 seconds to cast. Imagine a cleric casting a 3 second heal and the heal fizzles but the spell bar continues to move and you aren't notified that you fizzled. The tank would likely die from lack of heals. This is what bards deal with. Our song will continue to cast and no effect will take place, no resist, no group buff, whatever it is you are casting. And the reason is because we aren't notified when our song fizzles ("your song ends"). It is very annoying to spend 3 seconds trying to cast a spell not knowing if you fizzled or not, especially when you are trying to snare/mez/charm a mob beating you down.

Also, we've had no word from developers whether a solve for this issue is being looked in to.

Welcome aboard... glad to see that people who have never played EQ before are trying out this server.

As Guineapig was saying Rangers are probably the rarest class since everyone thinks they suck in classic. Paladins are also pretty rare imo, as well as bards. Of course, you can never have enough clerics I think.

Well, first off, If your a first time player, bards are a hard class to just pick up, regardless of the bugs. If you can get past those though, then you should be good i guess. I know a 50 bard who plays his class flawlessly, bugs or not. Great bard.

Clerics are tough to play because they have no soloablility. Also, you have to just accept the fact that your gonna just heal. heal, buff, and resurrect dead bodies. its really a niche class tbh.

Ranger is always a good suggestion. Its tough to find a good ranger anywhere, much less a ranger. Fun class to play i've heard, crazy dps if built correctly.

Just play a class untill like level 10 or 12 and if you dont like it, switch. Hybrids dont get spells until level 9, so you want to get rangers, palidans, and shadowknights at least over level 9 before you trash it. Just play something you like, you'll fit in.

PS: I'm 18, nice to see someone younger than me on a 10 year old game haha
