View Full Version : OMG, is it really EQ?!

Hello folks,

I’m very happy to have stumbled across Project 1999. My wife and I began playing EQ in December of 1999 and continued until 2004 when Gates of Discord and Omens of War completely and irrevocably ruined the EverQuest experience. In the decade that has pasted, she and I have on occasion mused over our EQ life; friends made and lost. I have often commented wistfully on how nothing since has had the “wow” factor, including WoW. The other day I was saying that it would be nice to login again and run screaming through Kithkor at night…and low and behold I found a way to do it. I’m very eager to log on.

I’m unsure where this will end up. During the heyday of Planes of Power, we were online 8+ hours a day raiding and grinding our faces off. I really don’t have time for that now but I’m not sure all the time I spent in the past would be necessary this go-‘round. I suppose we’ll see.

<loading, please wait>

So,

While I’m waiting for my disks to be shipped for what I hope will be a clean Titanium install, I’ve been doing something OUTLANDISH…i.e. reading the server rules. Crazy right? In general it’s all common sense. Don’t be rude, don’t cheat, take off the ass-hat…logical stuff. The one thing I found puzzling was the ban on two boxing. It’s not a deal breaker but I was hoping to duo a Shaman and a Monk. From what I have read, it is clearly not an option. I’ve no intention of trying to game the system or trying to lobby for change. It’s not my house, I’m only a guest and an uninvited one at that, so I will comply and be grateful for the opportunity to play a game I sorely miss. However, for my own piece of mind, may I request the reason behind the prohibition? If the answer is “because I said so” that’s fine, but more would help me feel better about it - not that that's important.

Thank you for whatever response is received and I look forward to seeing folks in-game. I’ll either be the Shaman hasting mobs or the Monk that pulls like a warrior. In either case, save yourself, run!

Cheers,

Iceborn

Welcome to the server - You can just get the Titanium files some where else, dont have to be the physical copy.
Two-boxing is illegal because it kills the gaming-soceity(interaction, grouping dependance etc) just take a look at the live servers or the EZ server.

Hello & well met %T.
There's plenty of people to group with so don't let the multi-boxing thing bother u. If your schedule doesn't suck like a army of vacuums, you should find groups, efriends & more. Hope to see u in that world.

Return your keys while you still can. This won't be anything remotely how you remember the game. I only say that because you mentioned raiding. You might not have too many problems leveling up until around 50.

Cheers

The raid environment on this server is a little non-classic for sure. That's mostly due to there being a lot more max level characters on this server than there ever were on live. Even so, it really isn't *that* bad. There are plenty of raid mobs to go around in Velious and even fairly casual guilds are getting a decent piece of the pie.

The road to 60 is still extremely enjoyable though and pretty darn classic as far as I'm concerned. There are plenty of groups to be had at every level range and the community as a whole is pretty welcoming.

Glad to have you on board!

Consider red, much better raid environment. Unless you're into rule lawyering.

Glad you stumbled on the box!

Do not slay the fire beetle. Do not collect fire beetle eyes.

Thank you! Was afraid this thread would make it to the second page without some "try red" spam.

This server has been great to find groups at lower levels and so far all the way up to 50 plus.

Remember, if your wife is going to play from same IP make sure and apply for the IP exception as soon as you can.

I remember on live boxers perma camping and refusing to let others into their groups because they got their alts, and your not needed. Boxing sux ruins the game. Other then that welcome to p99 hope you enjoy your stay.

This is really EQ as far as I'm concerned (a lot of people like to mountains out of molehill differences). The main thing that has changed is people's attitudes, computers, and information about the game. It's still way more fun than modern MMOs IMO.

Boxing can kill the social aspect of the server. When this started in 2009 there were only a few hundred players tops so the boxing moratorium really helped this place feel like a community. I prefer the rule even now that we have 1000+ playing.

Shoot me a tell in game sometime if you have any questions.

When people start feeling the need to box thats the first sign to hang up mmoing and find a new game or hobby thats a sign of a real addiction right there me i love immering myself into my sole character which i still do to this day and i love p99 for that.

Problem is if you allow boxing, everybody that does it has a competitive advantage. Pretty soon, everybody is compelled to box or be left behind.

That's the one reason i won't try project 2002. I don't like boxing and i would hate to be in a group of 4 with only 1 real player there besides me.

Both the wife and I have made it on and we are merrily making our way about.

Level 5 with tattered armor and tarnished weapons. The fact that we remembered enough to be able to accomplish that is pretty stunning. Relearning how to drive, where to put the windows, targeting and assist commands...i won't speak for her, but man I suck. Last night after I got us killed in Blackburrow, I was setting up my spells for the CR and realized that I could have likely saved us if I had remembered to use my new spells. But at the same time the command "/toggleinspect off" just came back instantly, as did "Ctrl W" when the wife close the main actions window. It's odd but I do have quite a bit of grey now so it doesn't really surprise me.

You'll find me online as either Iceborn or Lakes, the wife is Daneka. We're terrible but happy to say hi.

Cheers,

Ice

Agreed. It's nice when you find folks just looking to play the game.

There's nothing worse than being in a group with some pedantic loser who tells everyone how to play their class, what to do, etc, and then just goes OFF on everyone.
