Since this the rant area I suppose ill rant about a Pet peeve of mine. I REALLY cant stand people who run away when a simple lowbie is looking at their gear to maybe get an idea of gear they should be getting. Not only will people run away so you cant inspect they'll send you tells saying how they dont like the "riff raff" of the world inspecting them. I mean really people I get it EQ is a GREAT game but is just that a game and people being upset that someone is admiring their pixels is childish and immature, are they any rational reasons for this behavior or just losers in RL taking advantage of the power they have in game to act like an elitist asshole. Im sure many disagree, but yeah thats just my opinion, any other views and discussion welcome

Anyone that gets upset somebody inspected them is a fucking moran. I've encountered this a couple of times too. Thankfully it was much more common on classic than it is on P99. Most people don't seem to care here.

In classic on my server people used to typically ask for permission before inspecting. It's an RP element that never happened on this server

I get excited when people right click on me without asking permission.Seriously though, if you get annoyed because someone is inspecting you in elf sim without asking you should just kill yourself.

I have a bag of decoy gear that I wear while in ec so people don't really know what I'm using. No one inspects me anyway though

It's good to see most arent immature douche nozzles, apparently im socially retarded as one guy called me for inspecting him, lol and that was after being called "riff raff" which leads me to picture a man drinking tea in his country estate playing eq after a long day of Polo

Inspect message is stored clientside and I don't think a GM can check it unless he actually approaches you ingame while you're logged in. Just leave a nice insult for them that would be a risk to send in logged chat.

If someone is wearing something that's cool I a look, cause idafg. Also if I'm porting and they say they are broke, I give them a look , and wait for some excuse. They have been pretty good so far.

I like swapping out my inspect message every few days to describe what I've been doing recently.

No one seems to care, though :(

I played on The Rathe which became Zebuxoruk which became Xegony. Was common to have extremely immersed folks nerdrage at u for inspecting without asking.

Bristlebane. It was a common thing. Don't remember much RP but that at least was frequent.

My dad told me it was rude to inspect someone without asking when he introduced me to Everquest. Just an old courtesy to ask first that didn't make it over here. Plus it gave you a good reason to pk someone on the Zeks, so ive heard. Imo it shouldn't be considered weird to ask nor should it be a reason to flip out if someone doesn't.

I always assumed that random inspects were an invitation to cyber. So far I've been mostly right. Mostly.

I inspect low level chars all the time if they are obviously new I try to give them a fine steel weapon or something. If a person is >20 or obviously geared I try to never inspect them without asking but it happens quite a bit by accident when looting a corpse.

Nobody should be mad if they are inspected, but at the same time, there is no obligation to stand there while someone looks. If you got to go, go.

Correct. I was also told that it would be courteous to ask before inspecting. Doesn't hurt anyone, does it?

Also:
I only got annoyed when I inspected myself.

Never on live have I accidently inspected myself and others as many times as in my few weeks here. Something is really off with myself or the system.

Maybe they're not running away because you inspect them. They've just got shit to do and don't have time to stand around until you finish reading.

I never understood the people getting anoyed i did back in the day when online ettique was a thing it use to be simply considered rude i know p99 and it emulate the old days but people need to relize its still 2015 and we have all grown past that petty complaint. Not like inspecting gives people personal info.

I got no problems with the whole inspecting thing. Do what you like and pay no mind to the weirdos.

Somewhat off topic but related, a few weeks ago I had a guy inspect me as I was meeting a seller to buy an IGS. Apparently the guy wasn't to happy that I had to "move" to go get said item and it made him so angry he sent me a few tells about how crazy I was for caring that someone inspected me. I didn't respond, as clearly the guy was off his meds. /ignore is goog.

Nameless was the same, totally random who would lose their shit upon getting inspected w/out "permission"

FFXI was the same way, though most people got pissed if you didn't ask first (on Ramuh at least). fun thing you could do was macro switching a piece of gear out, which caused you to disappear and reappear and said inspector would have to re-click. was fun to annoy people that way.
