Kind of a big price to pay to be able to do some world pvp, the quest threadmill. Some day they gonna do a game like this strictly centered on arenas and PVE/PVP areas mixed in. Sort of like a hybrid between a MOBA and a MMORPG

Dont target them, and you wont become pvp enabled ad a newbie.

i have a 50+ warrior on horde side but quit. supposedly they have added in dynamic respawn to fix this and i think fix the fact that no gathering nodes were ever available due to overpopulation.

Not as stale to me; it can be fast as fuck and powerlevelling on EQ is way more efficient than Plvling in WoW.

Plus I have levelled more characters on wow than id like to admit, before I started botting every toon. So thats probably why.

Just make sure you actually tank, whatever you do. Like 50% of the server is warriors but 90% of them just want to dps...there was always a shortage of legit tanks.

I have never played WoW before this, and when I began researching builds I realized that most of the end-game builds actually rely on the gear you can obtain. Dungeons are fun, but anything larger than 1 group I have never enjoyed. I hate feeling like you have to rely on others willingness to play/help in order to progress.

Well said and there is tons of world pvp. Trust me Smedy I come from a game where dying matters aka Meridian 59. It's a game you'd like but why does pvp penalties care? Red99 no longer has them and you still had fun. Also classic world of warcraft has 7 world bosses you can pvp for.

The problem is it is human nature to try to minimize the difficulty of anything to the point it is no longer challenging. The only way to control difficulty is to control how many players can attack the target. Even mobs that were designed to be unkillable were killed in EQ (Sleeper) because endless swarms of bodies were thrown at it until it died. This lead to an endless cycle of the mobs hitting harder and having more HP and taking longer and longer to kill. This peaked in Vex Thall when the encounters got so retarded people would literally AFK with autoattack on for a half an hour.

Even the EQ devs realized this was stupid and began instancing content in PoP.

Honestly, I think the way WoW does it with limited open world mobs but the majority being contained in time locked raid instances is the right way to go.

Imagine how much different this server would be if a guild like Azrael or Friends could kill NToV mobs in a 36 man instance, but the top tier mobs like AoW, Vulak, etc were contested. It would have the dual effect of allowing smaller guilds the change to gear up 75% of the way without needing to join a zerg, and zergs being less desirable to form in the first place due to limited raid spots.

I will say though in a game like EQ where classes are not all created equal, you'd struggle to find a spot in the tier 1 raid group as a shadowknight for example. WoW had to resort to gimmicky mechanics like a single unique buff to make sure you'd want to bring at least one of each class along.

Still, benefits outweigh the drawbacks?

I think it is actually the lack of rewards more so than the potential loss. In the end it is just a different side of the same equation - the reward is rarely if ever worth the risk in EQ PVP so you're left with a handful of people doing it just for fun.

Not gettin the whole WoW emulator scene. I guess maybe I could see vanilla.

But WoW live outside of battlegrounds is still very close to the original experience.

The emulator scene for EQ made perfect sense, as each expansion moved the game further away from its core design.

The server would crash at least once an hour, there were something like 8000 people online at once, so literally every quest mob had a small horde of people standing on it's spawn point trying to get FTE, and 99% of the open world PVP was just 60s camping the little towns in the lowest level contested zones ganking people repetitively.

The few times I encountered actual PVP, it was a lot of fun, but there's very little camaraderie due to the entire game (save for dungeons) being soloable by any class. Having a guild there is more or less just having your own little /ooc to talk in. I tried both sides and it seemed to me like alliance had a much higher % of asshats per capita.


Oh, and the gold seller spam was terrible, too.

Has only crashed once since i started, 31 now. Still has a lot of people fighting for mobs at lower level, but it starts to thin out as you get higher. Plenty of people inv to groups for the normal quests so that everyone can get credit, unless they are grinding. Guilds being nothing more than your own /ooc sounds like red99 to me, so i don't see the difference. Alliance and Horde seemed the same in terms of ass holes to me, but still less than what's on Red99, and that's amazing considering the pop difference.

Plenty of 60's gank lower levels still, but that's just part of the vanilla experience imo. Fun times tho, good little break from the drama of red99.

While all of us are leveling we're meeting and recruiting new players along the way, one of the best way to recruit players is leveling with them while getting to know them, so far most of us are in the 19 range, and we've met and recruited dozen cool people so far.

Problem with that wasn't Lite, he was willing to recruit but the officers at the time were players from Friends, I.E. Beastagor, Willy aka Powered, Larsen, players that convinced Lite not to recruit or give new players a chance.

It is better in some ways and worse in others. The one thing EQ did that very few other games did (or have done since then) is have meaningful gear drops off low level mobs especially rare spawns and in dungeons - things like bloodstained mantle, impskin gloves, fbss, etc. Plus it was far more group based in the leveling process compared to WoW.
