Greetings,

I am Aylindor and I am completely new to EverQuest. I've heard it referenced many times as the game that revolutionized and set standards for current MMOs, but when I investigated it on Steam I saw many mournful reviews of what it "had been" yet a glimmer of hope survived on in the references to Project 1999.

Unfortunately I missed out on this era of gaming, but I seek to see what all I missed and to that end I've been led here. I'm very fresh and I know little of how to control the game or get the most out of my stay here so I turn to you veterans for advice.

My first character will be a barbarian fighter so that I can learn the ropes, but I'm always a fan of mages and paladins. Generally I solo my way through MMOs, but this seems like a game best enjoyed with a group and especially one that is willing to roleplay.

I ask that you give me your advice, tips, and welcome for I am an outsider in this "new" and exciting land.

Sincerely,

Saint Aylindor

Welcome! You will have a tough time soloing with a warrior as compared to most other classes but as long as you're having fun, rock on + hope we can group up soon.
If you have not perused: http://wiki.project1999.com/

If you want to melee, as a first character for an EQ virgin I would recommend a Ranger or Shadow Knight over a Warrior.
Rangers and SK's get some magic starting at level 9 that makes them slightly less gear and group dependent than warriors.
Just remember, you are not limited to just one character. Try a few others and see how they fit.
My first ever character was a Warrior, but when I tried on a Magician, i fell in love with the class.

Thanks for the replies, guys.

I'm more than happy to try out a few different classes, but I'm accustomed to Warrior being the noob guide class. I'm completely at a loss for how I'd even start out with questing, grinding, etc.

I'll be checking out the wiki, but since I've played Champions of Norrath I think I might go Shadow Knight instead of Warrior.

Looking forward to more replies!
