View Full Version : Average wait time for IP Exemptions?
Hey guys,
A group of 4 friends and I all joined p99 a couple weeks ago. We had the brilliant idea to create the perfect team comp in our eyes (Warrior, Druid, Enchanter, Wizard, Monk). The only problem is, our Warrior and Druid are a husband and wife that live together. We read the rules, and put in an IP Exemption Request right away so they could play together, but for two weeks it's just sat there with no reply. These early levels have been difficult to progress as a team, either with no tank, or no healer, and now my friends are talking about giving up on the server due to no support on this issue because they just can't play together. We've read that it's taken 50 days(!) for some people to get IP Exemptions. Is this typical? We've also read that people don't even bother with the exemption and use VPN's, but we would rather not risk that, and want to do it the right way.
For any GMs reading this, the petition I'm talking about is for Bigsaunch and Runwhope.
I don't want to leave this server. I understand that petitions are handled by unpaid volunteers, and I appreciate all the work they do.. but it's a little concerning that a simple request can be ignored for so long, and I fear our group as a whole will lose interest soon if we can't get our core Tank and Healer on at the same time.

Ya ive currently had a ip exempt petition in sense sept 13th have had 3 replies from gms and still no exempt yet still waiting in que luckily me and my brother dont live together we want one for the occasional lan party with rl pals
Since September? Holy crap. Ok, I may as well cave and tell them it's not worth waiting then. We've literally been checking multiple times a day thinking it will be completed soon.

My brother and I live together and play so we had to get an exemption... I think it happened on the same day. Been playing for almost a year now and its been a blast. I think they check through the requests like once a week and do them all at once
Well that's good news. I wish I could get a Guide/GM to reply to this thread to tell me what's up.

Give them a day or two at least. Also, try red! It's way more fun than blue
We put the request in on the 18th. So 11 days so far w/ no reply.

It is the holidays...keep that in mind.
I think my exemption and my friend's exemption took ~a day?
They are pretty active in monitoring exemptions too. I remember one day three of us were grinding away and my buddy got banned. It only lasted like 2 minutes and the GM apologized saying something made it look like him and his fiance were on the same computer so it was quickly rectified with a resurrection for the resulting death ;)
Don't bombard them but you may want to put the request in again if it has been that long.

It's xmas holidays and most likely the server guys are taking a well deserved break :) Dont be impatient and dont bump the petition, just wait it out and you will be able to play your group on this custom and free server soon enough. Winter is only just begun.

Agree with what everyone is saying about the holidays. When I applied for an IP exemption a couple years ago I got mine in a few days. Later on some friends of my applied and both times it was a similar window. Hang in there, but I wouldn't check more than once a day ;)

I'm also waiting on an IP exemption I put in eight days ago, and I made another post four days ago in the thread ('cuz I forgot some information). I have friend/family coming into town in a few days and I'm really hoping the IP exemption goes through by the time we want to play together.
The whole busy holiday thing makes sense, though. Thank you GM-folk for your hard work.

I got one in less than 24 hours back in November. Might take longer because of the holidays.
Thanks for all the responses guys. It sounds like they are on it, but due to the Holidays I just need to be extra patient. I'll let the group know.

Make sure you don't bump (i.e. post replies to) or resubmit the request while you wait - doing so moves you to last in line.
Ok good to know, & we haven't.

IP exemption is a contentious aspect of this server....I propose....
They should patch the client with some image processing logic that requires concurrent sessions from the same IP to each be associated with an active and unique webcam. The logic would just make sure different faces are in front of each webcam. Every so often the server could poll the clients to make sure they still have unique faces sitting in front of them. If no face is in front of the webcam i.e. the user is AFK or attempting to duck check, the server could just stop processing most notifications from the client about game actions being taken. No big deal, once you get back to keyboard your actions get enabled in short order. The server could even post a message to a webcam ducking user that says "Hey dummy, sit up straight I can't see your face." The image data could either be processed locally or sent in some compressed form to the server in manner that doesn't allow it to be reassembled into an image a human could make anything out of... Naturally any GM would need the ability to manually audit these images from time to time in order to make sure someone hasn't just propped up a sex doll or something in front of a webcam (this point is moot depending on the quality of image processing software freely available.) This audit system might be initiated by the GM sending a tell to a user with a client session flagged as concurrent and asking for permission to audit. The user, after making sure they were presentable, would then issue a proprietary /giveauditpermission command to temporarily change the way the server collects the image data from his or her client so that the GM could scrutinize it. Lots of food for thought here...also totally outlandish in the context of project 1999 haha
Update: Our Tank/Healer got their IP Exemptions today! Thank you to whoever processed that for us!

Average turn around for IP exemptions currently is 3-5 days. I try to sit down and do them twice per week, but since the holidays, we all have been a little preoccupied.
Thanks for your patience

If your endgame is to sit in EC and have drooling idiots inspect you, then no, it's not.

Yeah... that's just as retarded as playing a game where you can run through multiple zones and not see a single person or where theres 20-60 people on the entire server at times

Interesting. I've always been of the mind that the "perfect" full party for classic EQ is Warrior, Cleric, Rogue, Monk, Shaman, Enchanter. I guess everyone has their own thoughts on this though.
