@ OP- did you mean NO DROP or "droppable" as in it exists in Classic?

12-01-2010, 11:39 AM
I took it to mean only using dropable items that are in game now. In other words things the OP could go out and purchase.

Correct! I've got everything you've listed except the black sapphire ears which I'm working on getting as well as jboots and peg cloak! Yay!

Things I would have added had I not gotten so lazy at the end there :p
CoF if the real big ticket item on the list. Impressive.

Don't forget the Axe of the Slayers. A must have for any Warrior, but too bad it doesn't proc until level 30.
Also - I personally like a Mithril Plated Girth better than a TBB for a warrior. 1 more point of AC + 9 stamina 9 str instead of the 15 STR. Stamina > STR. And with 9 extra stamina, you could pass on the low AC granite bracers.

Completely forgot about the Girth... You are absolutely correct, it is a better item in classic.

Ya the Rubi bp for a tank is decent during med breaks. Chloro/Regen + Rubi makes for a healthy tank.

I guess so... but chloro costs 200 mana and doesn't last long. At that rate you're really not saving the healer much mana. For soloing I can see the benefit but the cost to benefit ratio of that item is questionable at best. It has always been more of a prestige item (unless your a shaman). People just make it out like it's so damn uber to try and legitimize the cost.
Example: in 1 minute the BP regens an additional 30hp... In one minute a healer might regen a couple hundred mana. Gheal costs 150 mana. Who the hell is going rely on 3HP per tic in an exp group?
This is of course my opinion, but I would never waste money on something like that when it could go towards the other items listed.

peggy claok (no drop) jboots (no drop) Axe of the Slayers
**Doing Jboots quest as I type this. Doing Peg cloak after I finish Jboots. Is it worth getting Axe of Slayers? I'm not really into 2h weapons as I can almost always find better regular dps non proccing weapons for non tanking situations. Cat O 9 Tails may be a fun one, I don't think I'll bother with stun whips or treant staff, whats DA totem?
Also is there any illusion clickies besides AoN for wars?**

Yup, absolutely!
whats DA totem?
DA totem... Shiny Brass Idol.
Clickable instant cast 10 second invulnerability just like clerics get. Drops of Sharloc orcs in Highpass Hold.

Thanks for input, but isn't switching out for a shield and hitting bash easier?

Mithril? That crap is for Rangers. :D
The Axe of the Slayers is awesome for soloing. The damage absorb actually heals you, 3-6 times during a battle and it's like having a bunch of extra HPs. You can kill a bunch of greenies and get your health back too. Plus for grouping situations, the proc generates passive AE aggro like a heal.

No. It's actually much less convenient. When you are fighting a complete healing mob or some shitty chanter or AoE crazy mob you will thank your lucky stars as to how often to stun whips proc with decent dex. Bash does not come up often enough with the way mobs spam their abilities on this server. This of course is situational. With a good chanter or cleric in your group they should be able to handle the chain stunning for you.

I mostly agree, but there will be times that a warrior needs to up his MR as much as possible for certain encounters. Usually in these cases the loss of AC isn't important, it's resisting ugly AoEs.

Yeah, so have the Mithril in a secondary resist gear pile for cases when you need it. But for day to day, go with crafted.

Yup!
On a side note, I don't own half the gear I've mentioned and I have a level 1 warrior that's been sitting in her starting zone since the spring.
But I did have a warrior on Live many many moons ago.

Is losing 6 ac even a trivial difference though compared to have 14 more str and 10svs?
Dantes
12-01-2010, 02:36 PM
Every little bit counts, in each slot. For example... there's a lot of different items with stat increases you could have in your neck slot instead of the Glowing Bone Collar, but it's 5 AC vs 0 on most other neck items. So you choose the glowing bone collar. STR is not a priority for a Warrior, it'll add to your DPS at higher levels, you'll hit for more damage but your role is to soak up damage. So wouldn't you be more concerned about AC to soak up the damage and DEX to ensure you proc enough to get and keep aggro?
The same debate could be had about the granite bracer. Is it better to have those HPs you get from the stamina on the bracer - or have higher AC and a chance to lose less of those HPs when you get hit?
SVs are nice. But are you going to pull a lot? Or are you going to be the main tank and stay in the camp. I prefer the latter, with a monk or a ranger (who's probably wearing the mithril) on pulls, or a paly/SK if we're fighting undead... Because as you know we Warriors have no method of CC during pulls. If I'm not out running around with the chance of being rooted, I'd rather have more AC as the main tank. Caster mobs drop in seconds when they get back to camp. Raids are a different story, but that's why people have alternate gear, am I right?

Have been having the discussion about the skull shaped barbute with my friend (hes leveling a warrior, I have an SK).
We are both wearing the SSB but he has his heart set on wearing the Hammerhead Helm.
I disagree, but am not entirely sure why:
SSB
ac13 hp35 svmagic 10
Hammerhead helm
ac13 str7 sta7
Now, I guess depending on the ratio of stamina to hp at level 50, in theory Hammerhead could be a lateral move...... right?
The raw hp from SSB is why I wear it (assuming at 50 I will be able buff stam to the hardcap (250 if memory serves) but may not always be the case.
Never can go wrong with saves. Moot point.
ac is the same and I guess, the bending point for my war buddy is the str. He rolled a barb warrior so he is a bit jealous of Ogre str (small races make me giggle).
Any suggestions (I guess primarily on the stam-hp ratio)

Most of all the price difference made me consider the SSB. The hammerhead helm is more expensive, or at least, it used to be. SV magic is nice to have too. With 10 from your helmet and 10 from a Runed Bone Fork you've got a nice boost.

If you didn't put many points into dex when you rolled your war, you may want to forego some AC/HP for items like executioner's hood, cloak of shadows, etc. to get dex up to around 130ish. It'll help you keep agro much better in groups on the grind to 50.
Everyone swears by that dumb skull-shaped barbute (not that its not a great item) but IMO, what use is AC and sta if your enchanter and cleric are taking all the damage? dex is priority 1 until you proc more than often

+1 for the Cloak of Shadows, would rather have it over the HBC (and I do). Highest AC cloak for classic, and 13 DEX is awesome.

This guy has literally been playing for about a month, with a warrior as his first character. I met him in crushbone around level 7 and we leveled up a bit. He said on his first night he already made 600pp just wheeling and dealing. Now he's all decked out.
Kavanah, you're damned good. If I ever start a company and need a deal maker, you're first on my list.
By the way, I want my gear back, rich boy :p
