I've tried many different NPCs but none of them seem to respond when I type their bracketed words in. After I hail them I noticed what words are bracketed. I go down to the entry box and type in the bracketed word. Hit enter. Then it says that I said the word and then... no response. :(

It's been 8 years since I've played this game so I'm hoping it's something obvious I'm not doing and not a bug.

Feel free to call me an idiot if I'm not doing something obvious.

if it says" Will you deliver the [nutsack] to Halas?"

you should type:
"I will deliver the nutsack."

dont just type "nutsack"
it won't work.

Yea, this is true of classic. In later on expansions developers got lazy. If the phrase was "Are you [ready] to storm the castle"

Any response will work as long as it contains ready:

Ready to quit my job

Readyifiedication

Ready for a tasty hamburger

Would all get you to the next step of the quest or whatever it is. One example of how EQ drifted away from a RP game as time went on.

Thank you very much. I guess I am just used to those old-school RPGs where you type in the one keyword. :)

I know of one exception to this. All I have to type is the bracketed text to get a flask of nitrates from Te`Anara in Surefall Glades. Using [fetch a special potion] will do. Using "I will" does not help or hurt.

So far references to my nutsack has yet to yield a response.
