wut? raiding is more casual than ever. raids go for like 45 minutes to 2 hours max 4 days a week. 99% of the guild then logs off until the next raid. you can be 80% RA with about 3-4 hours total invested in this game a week. maybe when velious first launched it was hardcore but now it's on the loot pinata express.

i'm more commenting on what this server seems to do to people. i think most of us can agree cyren's one of the more normal people on the box, and this thread's proof it can happen to anyone if you get too immersed. sometimes we all need to just take a step back and realize that at the end of the day this is a dying 17 year old emulated elf server and nothing that happens on here really matters, before we catch ourselves making posts about dead elves and respect and stuff.

This post didn't seem like it had anything to do with immersion. A grown man was tired of logging into a game where someone was constantly disrespecting and trying to humiliate him.

The only argument is should he have felt disrespected and humiliated? I don't know, but I also don't see why it is a big deal for someone to stop doing something if their officer tells them it bothers them whether or not the person doing it thinks it is a big deal.

I don't see any of this having to do with immersion, just people's personalities and dynamics getting in the way of a hobby someone enjoyed and it ruining their fun.

since you never actually spoke to us about it, you weren't aware that in reality in aimchat, mornin and retti's bitching was responded to by telling them to shut the fuck up and stop being retards. leaving the hackle hammer loot discussion also prevented you from hearing the in-depth conversation about how rettiwalk is/was shitlisted and his actions the previous day were the primary reason he wouldn't seriously be considered on it or anything he wanted for the foreseeable future. you rejoined the channel, after omai asked why you were seemingly still upset, in the middle of gongshow's opinion that your behavior was an overreaction.

i suppose it will boil down to an agree-to-disagree situation; you will never see it in any way other than the way you saw it in the heat of the moment, and i just don't agree with suddenly treating a common situation drastically differently just because it happened to you and you're an officer. i never freaked out when hona would attack me at raids and spam me with threats, including real life ones, in tells. i would hope that if i acted that way publicly, i would also be brought back down to earth. i also do not agree with an officer believing that his actions are untouchable when every other officer disagrees with them. the guild has just never operated that way.

it's rather disappointing that someone like yourself, who usually gives off an attitude of calm levelheadedness, is taking it beyond the game and playing the "we can't be friends anymore" card over a situation where we just wanted you to take a step back, calm down, and reasonably approach the issue. i still consider you a good pal at the end of it all.

It just so happens on that day that I chose to use it. It wasn't remotely severe. It wasn't ordinary for Empire, but it was by no means a ridiculous response given who did the deed/ how clear it was that I wasn't pleased.

To say "drastically different" is mischaracterizing it. For how you and Gongshow deal with issues like this in Empire, it's par for the course. Terp steers clear of shit like this, and for good reason, because you and everyone else knows he isn't cut from the same cloth. And apparently - neither am I.

Cyren is a great guy, great asset to any guild he is in and I thoroughly enjoyed my time with him. It's rare to find someone with such a high immersion but can keep it chill and make you laugh. However, he's not a victim in this situation. I think he over-reacted when he got killed and then shit hit the fan, feelings got hurt and here we are today. I've been killed on raids before, not once did I ever burger out to an officer or anything like that. Raids get boring, ppl do stupid shit, blah blah I know i've killed my fair share of ppl on raids. At the end of the day Cyren put in an incredible amount of time into the guild and walked away with a kings ransom of loot on his enchanter, alt levels, alt pixels, he will be just fine. I hope to play with him again some day.

As for any aimchat conspiracy please........ I don't even think colgate likes retti, same for Gong with mornin - so why on earth would they sacrifice their relationship with cyren for them.. please. They saw it one way, cyren saw it differently, that's life, no conspiracy.

He learned to not overstep, then he learned moments later that he can overstep all he wants and no one gives a shit.

The ability to overstep with no consequence is endemic with Empire. You can literally kill Empire members all day long as a part of Empire, and nothing will be done about it as long as you keep your RA strong.

EQ is designed to create drama and conflict between players. For some players, that is the part of the game that they find most enjoyable.

Looking for respect from those players is a lost cause.

One viewpoint is that a guild member showed a lack of respect during a guild event, and was insufficiently punished. Another viewpoint is that a guild member applied the golden rule in defending a friend and guild mate from an aggressor attacking in jest. Either way, the drama caused outweighs the seriousness of the crime and placed an additional burden on the limited attention of the raid leadership.

Not going to defend Retti's blunt way with words. However, he was willing to group up and share my hybrid exp burden back when there was no exp bonus which meant a lot to me at the time.

During Velious, you went harder than most and were among the most hardcore of the hardcore. It was supposed to be the 10th ring quest and not the quest for 10 rings.

My recommendation would to detox for a few weeks. Ease back into EQ slowly on a more casual level and rediscover what you enjoy about the game.

Just to recap and be clear, since OP is full of misinformation and emotion:


Cyren was an aggressor
Mornin was defending Gyno from Cyren
I assisted Mornin in defending Gyno
I got a killing blow on Cyren
Cyren couldn't handle the death and flipped out, banning from ts, and guild removing
So, I killed him agian when he rezzed in (1 shot twisted bastard steel)
He called for entire guild to kill me
Threatened to use his position in loot council to "grief" me over the 30 second PvP that happened while we were sitting at a zone in
Next day tried to invoke his ability to loot council "grief" and was denied
Ragequit the box to hide in Gongshow's ts
Started telling his sob story to who ever would listen
Wrote the OP after getting the Everquest Itch to play again


This lack of respect that Cyren seems to think he deserves is a joke. It was some auto attacking and spell casting at the zone in of ToV waiting for rest of guild to mobilize. He didn't have any problem tashing stripping debuffing and mezzing guild members, but the minute he got touched he started to cry about being a buff class/officer/loot council and how he was off limits. The events that caused the whole issue are due to you trying to push around your weight as an officer in a manner that the guild leader gongshow didn't want you to do. A way he deemed unprofessional. Sorry gongshow bent you over a barrel and you quit over it and felt the need to post a god damn sob story 2 months later on the forums.

Post was nothing more than an attack at empire leadership to form cracks in the guild to further your own agenda at forming a new guild. Just like every officer task you ever did in empire was a simple way of furthering your own agenda.
