Hello, I'm looking for some tips on playing a bard. This is my first time playing EQ and I was reading up on the best class to Solo so I'm currently rolling with a bard since from what I gathered they seem to be the best melee/caster class. I've played a good amount of mmos(anarchy online being my first) but EQ seems to be a different animal then anything I've ever played. I can't seem to wrap my head on what to do first after I give my class master the note, any tips on what should I do or is anyone down to play this weeked?
Anyway I'll appreciate any tips, thank you!

Everquest is notorious for not guiding a player. After turning in your note you should head out of town and just start killing monsters. If you are looking for quests to do I recommend looking on the WIKI for some low level quest guides, because the in game NPC's are very vague and do not give you level appropriate responses.
Once outside of town and killing monsters collect items to sell to merchants, save bone chips and spiderling silk to sell to players + and High Quality animal pelts you find. Use the money to buy songs every time you level. Go back to Class Master you handed note into and pick up skills as you level. In order to use a skill you must have 1 point in it so when you level and gain new skills you cannot use them until you train atleast 1 point into it at your master.
I don't recommend buying any weapons from merchants or any armor higher than cloth or leather from merchants, their prices are way inflated as a plat sink and players can provide items 100x better for lower prices.
Some bard songs require an instrument to work, others gain power by having an instrument. You should be saving up to buy a drum and a lute, later picking up a horn and a flute. You cannot use a weapon while using an instrument so when in battle you will need to make sure to unequip your instrument and equip your weapon, otherwise youll just be punching with your free hand for 1dmg.
Finding other low levels to group with will help you get a feel for what to do and i recommend it, not sure where you are starting from but that will give us an idea of where to recommend you go.
P.S. Don't forget to find a bag/box merchant and buy some backpacks/box's as soon as you can. This will let you loot more so you don't have to run back to town so much. Also Skeletons and orcs/gobos with staffs in their hand may have a cracked staff which sells for 1p so if you see one carrying a staff kill it.

There are a lot of guides on the wiki. This is a heck of a game to just jump into. Just take it slow and have fun. Don't be afraid to ask questions. You may want to remake your bard and start out in Freeport as you would be able to find groups much easier.
Learn to AE kite or quit.
Follow this advice if you want to be like the countless other mediocre bards on the server. AE kiting is definitely worth while to grind through some levels, but don't neglect learning to play a bard in a group setting.
Bard is one of the more complicated classes in the game, because to be good you really need to understand the capabilities of other players in your group. Its one of my favorite classes, but has a bit steeper learning curve than a lot of other classes, especially melees.
