We can all get behind this right?

We've all experienced the hordes of lobotomized pedestrians, societal nuisances mired in the purgatory between the material and digital realms of their favorite i-Device. Their gluttonous smart devices having devoured every shred of their intellect thirsts for more as they lumber stupidly along urban thoroughfares once frequented by slightly less in and creatures. We've all been there.

Well, a legislator from New Jersey has decided to do something about it with the introduction of a new provision in her state legislature. $50 fines for regular offenses and 15 days jail time for repeat offenses. [i]Finally[i] a government has found the testicular (ovarian?) fortitude to legislate morality. Yay!

I take issue with it as I have been assaulted by urban gang members several times in my life and none of them served a single day in jail despite felony charges sticking on multiple assailants with witnesses.

I always apply my own personal experience whenever someone talks about jail for this and that to expose armchair rhetoric.

If urban felony violence gets a free pass, I'm certainly not for even the hint of jail for texting and walking. Shame on this out of touch douchebag.

Yep, a typical pedestrian is already worth about 10pts. Add another 10 pts for old people, 10 points for females unless their hot then subtract atleast 15 depending on hot hot they actually are, 20pts for a minority, 30 points for babies which is to be multiplied by the total sum hit and if they're texting make it worth a whopping 50 points.

Nature will work itself out.

I think there's bigger fish to fry OP. What's next? Holding hands in the street and taking up the pavement? $50 easy.

This proposal has merit as well. Especially when people engage in the "we're so happy together!" variety of hand holding wherein with blissful smiles plastered stupidly across their faces, their union oscillates as they stumble farther and nearer one another almost as if the bond defies the will of each. We'd also spare the feelings of some oppressed segments of our society who are readily offended by such profanity. Perhaps a harsher punishment is warranted in light of this.

Two birds, one stone.
